Keep us in your thoughts...

So last night I took Heather (my wife) to the ER because she had been having heart arrhythmia for the previous couple days.  OH, and she's pregnant again image... which is the main cause of the heart issues from all the extra blood in her system right now.  Anyways, we got there and through a few tests and a CT Scan determined that she has blood clots in both of her lungs.  She had complained of shortness of breath but we had figured that was due in part to the pregnancy... yeah, it's not.  Basically the blood clots have nothing to do with the heart stuff... it just so happens that she went in for something that was slightly annoying (the heart thing) and they found something that may have killed her.  So they took her in overnight and now they want to keep her for at least one more night  because this morning her blood pressure spiked really high for no apparent reason.

So, just wanted to ask everyone to keep us in your thoughts.  I'm at home right now because Bodhi (our 14 month old) needed a nap.  She will be okay now that they've caught everything but it's still a bit shocking to be faced with an "if you hadn't come in..." type of situation.  I'm not worried at all as I'm not a worrier but I know she is/was pretty scared through everything.  I need a nap. image

Thanks guys!

Yeah, she's got SVT (supraventricular tachycardia) so it's somewhat common for her heart to mis-fire from time to time but it got to the point yesterday where it was doing that about once a minute.  They think a lot of that had to do with the fact that her blood tests showed that she was low on potassium but really, the heart thing posed no danger to her health... just an annoyance.  The blood clots are believed to have formed when we made to drive from WI to Atlanta about a month back for her sister's wedding.  It makes sense since it was about 18 hours in either direction.  Just too much time in a car without moving around enough.
  • Good luck Ben. Keep us all informed and up to date.

  • Hope everything turns out ok! Glad you guys decided to go in when you did!
  • Hope everything works out for the best.
  • I'll be praying for her and the new baby. Sounds like this was a really lucky ER visit.
  • Damn man thats crazy, hope everything turns out ok.
  • Good luck I hope everything turns out all right
  • I sure everything will turn out okay. I'll keep you both in my prayers.
  • Thanks to everyone. Your words and well-wishes mean a lot. It's cool to have such a tight community here . Heather's doing okay... looks fine. We'll see how she does tonight. I've been running back and forth all day because Bodhi (our 14 month old) doesn't have the patience to last very long at the hospital. Heather's parents are flying in from Atlanta to help for the week which will be really nice. But, I think they're staying on the pull out bed in my gameroom which puts me out of there for the week. image haha, I guess I'll get over it.
  • Best wishes Ben, thanks for checking in and letting us know how things are going.
  • I wish you the best.
  • A couple years ago I got put in the hospital for atrial defribliation (something or other), a pounding irregular heartbeat that went on all night. When I finally went to the ER, they stopped my heart twice with drugs and shocked the hell out of me twice and the freaking thing still didn't stop pounding. I finally stabalized on my own on the way to a bigger hospital. This is some scarry shit, especally when they find someting else wrong with you. I hope that your family is doing well. Let us know how everything turns out.
  • The fact that your wife went in to check out something that was minor and the doctor found a life threatening situation that saved the life of your wife and unborn baby is nothing short of a miracle. Ben, you are a good man and you and your family are clearly blessed in so many ways. I will be praying for your family and your wife and baby's quick recovery. I think all the NintendoAgers can make this situation into a positive by thinking about your wife when any of us take long drives or flights or even sit at a desk too long - get up every hour or two and stretch the legs and let the blood pump.
  • I will keep your family in my thoughts. Best wishes Ben.
  • Best wishes man. I hope everything turns out okay. You guys seem to have a very strong family dynamic. You're very lucky.
  • I hope that everything goes well, I will think of you guys - you have had a really tough time lately mate.
  • Best wishes for you and the family.
  • hope everything works out for you man image
  • damn, blood clots are scary things! fortunately it is taken care of in the hospital! I hope everything works out fine for you and your family! Best wishes from the Netherlands!
  • Again, thanks for all the well wishes and thoughts. Heather got to come home yesterday which is great. You can tell her body took a beating in the hospital but she is looking better each time I see her. She has to inject herself twice a day with Lovenox which may be the most expensive medication I've ever come across image... But it's safe for the fetus which is most important.
  • holy double post
  • I thought I posted an update this afternoon but apparently it didn't go through. Anyways, thanks for all the kind words and well wishes. Heather finally came home yesterday afternoon. Her heart is starting to mellow out a bit and they have her injecting herself with Lovenox twice a day which she reeeeally enjoys. But if it helps the blood clots she's not going to complain. It's nice having her back. You could tell yesterday that she was really wiped out from the hospital but today she is definitely getting some of her life back. Her mom is still in town until this weekend to help get the kids where they need to go and to take care of Bodhi. It's been huge having her here helping out because life is insane enough when it's Heather and the kids and me much less when Heather is pretty much out of the parenting game too. I'm really just glad we caught everything when we did... who knows how long things would have been okay.

I appreciate all of you... this community continues to amaze me.

(edit) apparently the post(s) did go through earlier today.  That's weird, they weren't showing up just a second ago.  Oh well.
  • Wow, I don't know how I missed all this, but I'm glad things seem to be getting better. I'm not a religious guy, but I'll throw a prayer out there for you. And seriously, if there's anything that you need, I'm sure just about anyone here (myself included, obviously) would be happy to do whatever we can for you. I hope everything's okay.
