That was the one and only time that I recall going head-to-head with Bunnyboy when he was on a buying spree and I actually won. I wish I could say I got it cheap, but I guess if you take into account that it's the only one ever found (AFAIK), it was a good deal.
As for the story, that's hard to say. I can tell you this much: it's a licensed game and one of only two non-US exclusive to come in 5 screws. I guess it would be classified as a black box, or small box, game.
Mah-Jong was released by Nintendo for the Famicom and obviously the game itself is quite popular in that part of the world, so I'm not surprised there's an Asian version of it out there. As you guys probably know, that's a hard market to tap into...I've been trying for a long time.

maybe we can get lucky enough that someone will become a member from that part of the world and will be able to hook us all up with the sachen and pirate games.

It was me you beat out....and it really burns my ass once-in-a-while ! (everytime I think about it)
There is still another one out there with my name on it......somewhere.
Ahhh... for some reason, I thought it was him -- must have gotten my auctions mixed up. I know it was at the time he was buying some pretty rare items and outbidding me on most!
I can totally understand -- had I lost, it would have burned my ass too. That's one of those auctions where you have to bid extremely high to ensure a win, but prey to Betsy you get it for a lot less. My max bid on that lot was more than double what I won it for, simply for the fact I'd never seen one before and knew I might not again for a very long time.
Thanks Wizard, you saved me from trekking more stuff back. But...if you want more boxed Famicom stuff, I can arrange that next year if you go to CGE
Dain: Nothing too out of the ordinary, but if you saw all the protos mixed with all the games and signs and accessories, it's quite a collection of NES goodness.

You should see some of the Supervision NES carts I have tucked away...I've had all sorts of random things I forgot about until I unpacked
