Google search results being redirected

Lately, when i click the results of a search, to a clearly reputable site (like ebay for the last search I did a second ago) about 5% of the time, I am redirected to some entirely different page, usually some variation of a site that looks for deals on prices for whatever it is I was looking for.

So I will always instinctively hit the back button, and reclick the link I chose the first time, and it comes up fine. This has been going on for at least a few weeks, but it's so infrequent that I thought nothing of it until recently. Is this happening to anyone else?

  • I think it happened to me yesterday. I found this odd too.
  • I had a more extreme version of that that turned out to be a pretty bad virus. A combination of different Spyware erasers and anti malware programs got rid of it for me.
  • Pedro definatly sounds like adware.. google doesnt do that to me. These are usually bundled with other software you intended to use and install, but didnt notice in small print the were also installing a search "assistant"
  • I agree it sounds like adware. You may want to download superantispyware. It is free to scan and remove files, and it is the best program I have found for getting rid of that crap
  • That's definitely adware / malware / virus... and some of those are a PITA to remove, GL because you'll need it.
  • The funny thing is I JUST took this computer in to remove a virus I got downloading ROMs. I just can't remember if this started before or after I brought it in. Someone mentioned SuperAntiSpyware, well the place I brought the computer to installed that with a couple programs they install routinely. I've run a scan and nothing comes up.
  • The problem with adware and spyware is, they are allot harder to detect and remove then viruses. A good virus scanner cant detect and remove 99.9% of viruses. Good spyware can do about 75%. Its good to use 2 to 3 diffrent softwares. I recommend Spybot. Its free, and its recognized as being one of the best, and it has one of the biggest libraries.
  • If you don't ever want these again, just load TeaTimer. It comes packaged with SpyBot S&D. I've had those two for years and have yet to get any nasties.
  • I've been using Spybot for about 8 years.
