Can somebody fill me in one what this is and if it needs to be replaced? If it's as easy as running down the block to RadioShack or hopping on eBay let me know. Thanks!
That's a diode, used for the battery circuit. I don't remember what kind it is, but you could take one from another NES game with a battery circuit.
And you should really stop cutting chip legs to remove them, it's really messy, time consuming and there's greater risk at damaging the board. Proper desoldering is easier in the long run.
Can you elaborate on this? I went to RadioShack and they had 1N914/1N4148 diodes but they were switch diodes... I also see stuff about rectifier diodes and whatever... would the ones I saw at RadioShack be okay?

why are you still bumping this? you have the answer right there. or take one off another game like guntz suggested. al unser is a good one because you can use the board for a bunch of other games that don't need battery.

A 1N4148 should do the trick.

Alternatively.. are these okay: http://www.radioshack.com/silicon-switching-diodes-50-pack/2761620.html ?
Thanks!!

Does it matter which direction it is put in? If so, is this right? Thanks!
If you can see which side the band is on with the old diode then simply orient this one the same way.
