Starting my girlfriend on Zelda series

Starting my girlfriend on the Zelda series. Tying to decide where to start. Gonna play through the games together. She grew up with snes and GameCube. Don't think she had n65 when she was younger. Was thinking ocarina of time for obvious reasons but now considering doing link to the past or windwaker

  • I would go with Ocarina of Time.
  • The original on NES. Why start anywhere else?
  • LoZ on NES, but don't forget the handheld offerings too. Link's Awakening is still my favorite, plus if she liked cuter art styles, its a winner.
  • Windwaker. Easy game to get into and you say they are into the GameCube.
  • My first Zelda game was Ocarnia and I played as an adult. Took very well to it. Easy to learn how to play and the challenge progresses nicely. Nothing excessively difficult but some tough spots.
  • Only offer up the NES ones is she isn't easily frustrated, and doesn't mind the classic 8-bit feel.

I would defiantly go with OoT.
  • In terms of the 2d ones I think link to the past is the best one and in terms of the 3d I think wind waker is the best.(don't shoot me)
  • If she grew up with a Cube, I say start her off with Wind Waker. The opening cutscene of that game is so fantastic that I feel it would probably get her pumped to get into the series. Just don't talk during the cutscene to distract her. I know it will take all the strength in the world to not chime in with a dumb comment like "this references Ocarina of Time!" but you should just keep quiet and let the scene play out. I think it would speak for itself and be a great way to get her started on Zelda.
  • I would not recommend offering the 1st Zelda on NES unless you have a guide laid out, it will just turn her off.

Offer a fully 3D Zelda experience that will be your best bet, there is so many Zelda games out there.
  • Another vote for Windwaker, either on the GC or the WiiU HD remake.
  • Link to the past, followed by windwaker.
  • Link To The Past or Ocarina Of Time
  • A link between worlds would be a good starter IMO. Has the awesome ALttP feel but it's a little more accessible to a newcomer
  • I'd probably say OoT, I think females would dig that game more than LTTP or WW.
  • Start her on Oot but def be around to help her. The game can get sort of cryptic at times and good god the first hour of play is just pressing A through agonizing tutorials.
  • As a newer Zelda player myself, I'd say Link Between Worlds and Wind Waker HD are the most accessible. Those 2 really got me into the series. Link to the Past is great too, if she likes 16 bit games.
  • Ocarina. You know it's true.
  • Link to the Past, perfect for a first timer.

Someone else beat the kid section for you.....

My vote is for link to the past.
  • I would say Link to the Past. It's my favorite out of the series.
  • I want to say LoZ, but ALTTP might be the perfect game, especially for starting out a newbie!

Had to read this maybe 3-4 times to understand lol I played the entire game but didn't pick up a Zelda game until I was 19
  • What few girls I've met that like Zelda games tend to mention Twilight Princess and Windwaker often and Minish Cap on GBA. Only met one that liked the original LoZ.
  • I'd go with Wind Waker or Ocarina of Time. I feel like those are the easiest to get into.
  • Link's Awakening.

Seconded. Plus, there is that French guy who runs the Battleship-esque mini game and you can totes throw pigs off cliffs and watch them tumble end over end like a well-punted football into the water. What more do you need? Pa-Peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewm!!!

*Slow Clap* Zelda pun of the year everybody.

  • ok im gonna suggest windwaker and OOT to her and see how it goes!!!
  • In modern times, I'd say a Link to the Past or ALBW should be the definitive 2d Zelda to start with for anyone that has never played a Zelda game before. I guess you could start with the 3D games too, but the 2D games are more accessible to pickup and play IMO.
