How many games do you usually own per console?

I average around 10-15 games per console and I accumalate that much throughout its life. My largest game library is on the SNES with barely 30+ games and counting. Is this typically normal for a gamer?

  • I eat games for breakfast.

To answer the question: I've got a few more, but I prefer to play NES & SNES, so I like a bit more variety.
  • There is no normal. It's whatever you want.

For a gamer, sure.  For a site devoted to collecting, I would say not even close

  • Rough guess

    NES 300+

    SNES 250ish

    N64 100+

    Genesis 50+

    PS2 9

    Xbox 175+

    xbox 360 250+
  • I currently have :

    Xbox360x2 (aka my COD / netflix machines) = <5

Gamecube = 1 loose game (that i accidently left in there)

    NES = 1 (Mario 3)

    WiiU ~10 top titles

    N64 = All of them

    Ps2 = 0

So you might call me an N64 collector.
  • ~850 nes/famicom

    ~30 gb/gbc/gba/ds

    ~30 gc/wii

    ~4 ps3

You can see which I collect
  • ~400 NES

    ~30 SNES

    ~30 N64

    ~30 GC etc. etc.

I only collect for NES but have the core quality games for any other system I own.

    Holy crap, 360,250 xbox games?!

Also, you need to step up your game on PS2.

  • I'm behind updating somewhat, but this is pretty close. Got a stack of gamegear\gameboy still, and going to shrink down some of the atari 2600 ones, I'm still counting a few variants as seperate games.

  • Under 50 each for NES, SNES, Genesis, PCE.

Yes, that is very normal for an actual gamer.

Collectards have hundreds of games for each system.
  • I currently have 23 Genesis games, 10 PS2 games, and 7 SNES games. I'm not a major collector like you guys.
  • id say its normal, I know a lot of people on NA have 1500 games +.I have about on average 30 games for most consoles, apart from nes and snes where I have gone a little collector crazy..not looking to expand nes and snes anymore though, or sell.

    Nes about 150

    Snes about 150

    N64 25

    Sega Genesis 50

    Sega cd 10

    xbox original 12

    ps2 15

    Dreamcast 20

    ps1 35

    Atari 2600 35
  • NES (collecting for) - 426

SNES (also collecting for) - 325

    7800 (sort of collecting for) - 38

    2600 (play on the 7800) - 24

Gamecube (not collecting for) - 5 (all first-party fun titles)
  • For those who have hundreds of NES and SNES games, did you amass the bulk of your collection before the prices started skyrocketing?
  • SNES - 20

    N64 - 29

    GCN - 26

    Wii - 16

    Wii U - 14

    DS - 3

    3DS - 26

    PS1 - 6

    PS2 - 14

    PS3 - 25

I'm a collector in the sense that I want to collect every game I intend to play or all my favorite games, but I'm mostly just a gamer who likes old games (and some new). My collection fluctuates constantly as I trade off games I deem less important for ones I'd much rather own. But these are the current numbers. SNES and N64 are my focus.

What's funny is, I grew up with PS2 as well as the NES and SNES, yet I hold no attatchment. I'd rather play on xbox for some reason. I always liked xbox live more than the playstation services. For PS2 I have the Socom's, God of War's, Manhunt 1 and 2 and Syphon Filter. I plan on getting the Ratchet and Clank's and Jak's again though.

I loved the 360. It's one of my favorite systems. I played so many games in phases and have such great memories from the console. Gear's of War days. Halo days. Ghost Recon Days. I kept all my games complete and I worked in a game store when I built the collection up so I only got brand new cases for my games and only bought them if the art was there in good shape. I also cleaned all the discs with the machine. Im pretty proud of my 360 stuff but for now it's all boxed unfortunately.

Sorta.  I had a good amount of them, then moved out of my parents place (I was a late leaver), and had them boxed up.  Someone took said boxes, and moved them to a barn, where they were pooped on by many wild animals.  I had a better poop collection than game collection honestly, and cart based games faired the worst.  Anyways most of the nintendo games I currently have I've bought post-2013, and many of them were replacing games I've owned at some point.

Yes for both Nes and Snes i got most of my games before they even started to skyrocket in price
  • Too much to type out. Just look at the link in my signature.

Your numbers are normal for a typical gamer.

Yes, most of my stuff was bought before prices started skyrocketing. I didn't get started as early as some here, but I still got a good jump.
  • I have 17 Neo Geo AES games.
  • I count myself as a collector and I try to keep it between 30-50 per system. I'm a CIB plus strategy guide and artbook style collector and that takes up a lot of room and money I don't have yet. Considering I collect for 15 different systems (haven't started 3ds or current gen yet), that's 500-600 games and counting.
  • Quality -> Quantity.

It honestly just depends on the system.......I wouldn't have the same amount of games for SNES as I would the TG16 for example.
  • i have to much game

Nifty. I'm at 7 AES and 10 MVS, for a combined total of 17! Once you have a good adapter, MVS is so much more feasible.

Seriously. I've "thinned the herd" so many times that it gets old. I personally only try to collect games now that are 1) fun 2) rare, or 3) desireable. The rest of the crap just takes up too much space and serves absolutely no purpose.
  • Quality over quantity for sure! I used to have about 550 NES carts, I realized I only played half of them, I eventually trimmed it down to about 90 that I love. Then I got tired of that weight and got an Everdrive for every system. At my peak, though:

    550 NES

    40 SNES

    50 Genesis

    40 SMS

    20 N64

50 GB/GBC/GBA (still hanging on to these)

It was fun for awhile, but eventually I just wanted my living room back. I should mention, I have about 500 games tied to my Steam account as well.

    That's like 12 Humble Bundles.
  • For me, this really varies alot... my cart based systems are around 40-50 carts each, PS1 around 50 I think, but PS2 is well over 200.

But, that said... when the systems were still current/recent, which for me goes back to the SNES days (SNES, N64, PS2, PS3 were the order I had my systems) I usually only had between 5-10 games for whatever was the current system. Usually on the lower end of that scale. I was never the kid that had alot of games, I was the one that found one game I really liked and played it to death before I moved on to something else. I rented quite a few games, especially for SNES and N64, but I only ever owned games I really really got into, and I just never came across alot of those. Even now, with my PS3, I probably only actually accumulated around 5-6 games since I got the system new years ago. Three Batman games, and Diablo 3 are the only ones I can actually think of off the top of my head lol.
  • Not much; I'm more of a Nintendo enthusiast than a collector. I got maybe 10-15 for NES, 4 for SNES, 10 for Wii, 10 for Wii U, I only kept one game for my N64 and gave the others to some guy who was starting a collection on Kijiji (I have an Everdrive 64), PS2 maybe 5-6, PS3 maybe 10. Nintendo DS I must have 15 maybe, I bought two on Kijiji and they both came with a bunch of games and I bought New Super Mario Bros and Mario Kart on eBay.
