I just remember Mega Man 6 and Wario's Woods being the only two NES games they had in stock at Toys R Us when I went there in 1995 to get a game for my birthday. Picked MM6 to buy with my own money, then got Wario's Woods as a gift.
Wouldn't your grandma send you a check for $50 rather than some weird $49.95 amount? In any event I hope he did thank granny and kept that top loader around! Because let's just say even a used one cannot be had for $50 anymore
Actually, accounting for inflation, a toploader isn't too far off from what they used to cost. $50 then is around $85 now. I see toploaders for $100.

I recall seeing them both at Toys R Us and Kay-Bee in Salem MA (when it still existed!) well into 1995. Good to know I wasn't delusional with the time frame there, lol.
