Chibi Robo

with the impending Chibi Robo amiibo package coming, I would love to hear everyone's thoughts on the series. I think the amiibo is adorable and would love to pre order it but I am curious about the series. Would I be missing anything if I jumped into that game without playing the others?

  • I got the new game and even though I've only played the first level, I dig it so far. And yes - you absolutely can play it without playing the others as its so vastly different. Zip Lash is more of a Bionic Commando/Umihara Kawase-style grappling hook-based platformer, whereas the Gamecube game (which was the only other Chibi Robo game we got in the States, if I remember right) was almost more of a cross between Animal Crossing and an adventure game where you went around helping a family with their chores and problems. I love them both, and I love Chibi Robo as a character (the Amiibo is SO DAMN CUTE) but the two games are really apples and oranges enough that it kinda doesn't matter which order you do them in.

  • Two years ago, I decided to buy Chibi-Robo on the Gamecube since it was at a good price. I LOVED it. Seriously, it's a game that holds a special place in my heart. I remember listening to the soundtrack every day of the week (especially this one: ) and talking about the game to my friends who didn't really care about it, because they were more interested in PS3/Xbox 360 games.

This is the first and only Chibi-Robo game I played.

I don't want to be that guy who corrects everyone, but there is also Chibi-Robo!: Park Patrol on the Nintendo DS. I think there is also a game you can get for your Nintendo 3DS via Nintendo eShop which is called Chibi-Robo! Photo Finder.
  • thanks for the input! I feel like its one of those lesser talked about gamecube games. I have been thinking of beefing up my GC library lately anyway...

I LOVE the premise of the first game it sounds absolutely wonderful. I have seen park patrol around for sale, I guess I should look up gameplay just to be sure which game I would prefer...
  • The Gamecube game is awesome. One of my favorites on the system.
  • Chibi-Robo on GameCube is an awesome and quirky game. Too bad none of the subsequent games recapture that same charm. Zip Lash is an okay game and I've been having fun with it (about halfway through) and I love the amiibo, but it feels a bit generic and forgettable. I certainly will not be fondly reminiscing about it years from now the way I do the original Chibi. Chibi-Robo is an awesome character and like many who enjoyed the original I wish they would make another adventure game like the first. If you want to get Zip Lash you don't need any prior knowledge of the series. You can just jump right in. I know the GCN game is going for $60+ right now but its totally worth it. There's really nothing else out there like it.
