Dragon Warrior - Loose to CIB price spike
I have been looking for a CIB of Dragon Warrior for a while now and it is diffiult to find for a good price......
It is odd when a loose game you can get for $5 jumps up to $40-$50 or higher CIB price...
I know it has more paperwork to maintain and stuff but man it just seems a little screwy since it is one of the most common NES games.

When you think of the fact that it has more extras than any other NES game in order to be truly complete it makes sense. Tracking down each piece individually if it were missing is a pain.
This is very true man and I did mention it but it just seems a "little" to much, it honestly just may be me though... doesn't help it is a massively popular game franchise either.
A lot of those ones that I was seeing in the $40-$50 range just have the cart+manual they don't even have the map, or other extras which I "did" forget to mention though so I could only imagine what people are asking for a "complete" copy.
I love these games just beat all 4 back to back. I been thinking of finding the boxes but like everyone said they are pricey.
I was able to snag a totally CIB copy of Dragon Warrior (Minus the letters and envelope from Nintendo Power) on Amazon back in May for about $35. It's worth checking there every so often. It's a really cool set. I wish I could afford the extras from the sequels...
I know it goes for cheaper that is why I was asking to see what other people got it at recently.
I found a really really nice CIB DW-IV so now I am wanting to get the whole series......I honestly don't know how I never played 2-4 before.
It is a unique experience sitting down with the maps/monster&item sheet/handbook and figuring the game out.
Does the first game come with more items in the box than 2,3, and 4?

I just got IV and I have the Explorer's Handbook + WorldMap&DungeonMaps + Weapon/Armor/Item&Monster/Spell sheets.
So thats a thick manual + 2 poster sheets.
I want to say the first one came with a tiny sheet/manual/map so I believe the other ones have more.
Edit - Nevermind the 1st one has a small regular sized NES manual + a bigger mini guide to but still IV has two big poster sheets so IMO it has more.

Technically no, a lot of the stuff came seperate in the Nintendo Power giveaway. People generally still want all of the extra paperwork. In box it only had a small manual and yellow tip sheet. Here is everything:

That must have been a very fortunate find! I just beat DW IV very recently and was really wishing I had those extras to enhance the experience. It was still great, and I feel like it's the high point of the NES Dragon Warriors (Quests), even with the auto attacking "feature". Sorry to go off topic. Best of luck finding a reasonably priced DW CIB.

Ah I see what you are getting at now.....I was unaware it had that tip sheet...
So is that folded up paper to the left of map just a poster or does it assist in game play?
Glad I grabbed my sealed copy of this back when they were $50!
That was another thing that was odd.........I found a sealed copy on Ebay for $199 or something which compared to the loose copy it makes sense..
Alot of these "CIBs" I am seeing technically are not complete at all based upon what B.A. posted....
Someone will have a box/cart/manual and call it complete where some people will have a cart/box/manual/guide book and call it complete and all combinations of.

Thanks for the link dude, this is all making a lot more sense now.....I had no idea that so many items were the NP exclusives.

Well when I first started the thread I wasn't really wondering what the contents were just more or less questioning the prices but it eventually lead in to what that thread was created for naturally.
Evidently the reason behind the prices is because there are so many on there that say "CIB" but really there is technically 2 CIBs....the vanilla CIB and the NP CIB that is causing issues.

No problem, I love the Dragon Warrior stuff! Here is another thread talking about the contents of DW1, and the other three if you or anyone else is interested (where I originally took the pics, have gotten a lot of milage out of it!).

Down the rabbit hole!
There's no point to this post - just bragging. >.>
The yellow tip sheet was the last thing I picked up. Saw an auction about a year ago for $3 shipped. And if anyone needs a laminated card I totally have a spare.
A fully complete Dragon Warrior (with all of the extras) has been in the $50 range for at least a couple of years now. I know because I've been sniping around $40 and still haven't gotten one. Never really wanted it, but since I got 2 / 3 / 4 I may as well get the first.
See and that does make sense, I was just seeing a bunch with just cart/box/maunal for that much which was kind of odd to me.......I will just have to keep an eye out for a good deal.

I have an extra poster (I was wrong earlier, there are dungeon maps on the back) and yellow tip sheet if you want.
Nice!
