Do you like to play certain games on certain days?

Do you have a certain game that you like to play on specific days? For example, I like to play original Tekken on cloudy overcast days for some reason when I have free time. I usual play SOTN, LTTP, and Mario RPG during the summer My firend likes to play Mega Man X every New Years Day. I know some people like to play a childhood favorite on Christmas. While others have a favorite for rainy days. You know stuff like that.

  • Well Halloween is right around the corner, I usually pop in castlevania 1 and zombies ate my neighbours. But I just acquired haunted, and ghouls and ghosts on genesis so there might be a new tradition. I like to play ea skate 2 or 3 on ps3 in the winter when I can't actually go out skateboarding. And I like to play through donkey Kong 64 around Xmas/ new years because that game was an Xmas gift when I was a kid and I like playing through it once a year.
  • NFL Blitz 2000 is a Thanksgiving tradition with my brother.
  • Zelda 2 and old RPGs in the winter. I have fond memories of playing those sorts of games in the dead of winter. Totally arbitrary, but my brain just associates snow + the smell of a wood furnace with Zelda 2 and Dragon Warrior.

Also, Castlevania in the Fall. I play it year-round, but I'm more into it then

    This.

Halloween tends to garner lots of Friday the 13th, Castlevania, etc. I find myself craving longer, more involving games like Zelda and RPGs during the winter months.

I totally hear you in regards to the snow association; winter makes me think of games like Zelda, Final Fantasy, Mario RPG, etc.
  • I associate action adventure games with summer, after I spent a whole summer mapping every inch of NES Willow on graph paper.
  • I play animal crossing daily because I have an emotional attachment to my villagers. Summer platformers, fall and spring rugs. Winter snowboard season. Every year I beat dkc 123, Mario kart, super Mario world, mk3, goldeneye.
  • On rainy days I like to play Mega Man 4. I always used to rent that game when the weather was gloomy and wet as a kid.
  • After a long, frustrating day of work I like playing COD for a bit to unwind
  • RPGs during summer or winter. Summer for those long lazy dog days. Winter because it just fits in well with that time frame.

Halloween time games like Super Castlevania, Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts, etc. fit in well.

And of course DKC during Thanksgiving/Christmas time.
  • Trauma centre, after drinking.
  • I find on weekend mornings when I wake up and have nothing to do for the day I always grab a coffee and then get the urge to chill and play NES or SNES for the morning. Not any particular games, just nothing newer than SNES.

When I am drinking with friends I always like to play N64 multiplayer games like Perfect Dark or Smash Bros.

After drinking, Counter Strike: Global Offensive on saturday nights, everyone on there is hammered and it is great fun.
  • Winter always seems to be my SNES time, spring is usually current gen/last gaming and catching up on a backlog, summer is usually N64 time, fall is back to current/last gen gaming with October being more of a focus on survival horror, and then around the holidays I play a variety of stuff (lately it's been old games I never played or finished) since I always have a week off, from Christmas to New Year's since my job closes that week.
  • Pokemon in the summer. I get such a nostalgia being off from school. Especially second gen Pokemon games.
  • There's a ton of games I associate with certain time of the year.
  • Nope, not at all I feel whatever I feel like playing at any given time..... I would never play a game I don't want to based on any other factor other than me wanting to play it unless the circumstances were completely coincidental and I just happen to play a game based on season, day of the week, holiday etc.
  • The Mega Man series has always been a Saturday thing for me. I had a streak of 2 years or so where I beat a Mega Man game every Saturday.

I used to try to play Friday the 13th every Friday the 13th. It was the only time I ever played that damn game as an adult.

And I usually do a run through of either Final Fantasy VI or Secret of Mana in December close to Christmas. I associate both the games closely to the holiday season. The former because my cousin gave me it as a Christmas present, and the latter because my brother and I bought it the day we saved up enough money for it, which was some time in December 1993.
  • Can't say that I do, but this is a pretty interesting thread. I'm enjoying the responses.

I do associate certain games and anime with specific events that have happened in my life though. For example, I associate Skies of Arcadia and Code Geass with Hurricane Ike, since I was into both of those while waiting on the hurricane. And now I associate the Street Fighter II anime (the series, not the movie!) with Christmas, since my brother and I rewatched that together on Christmas Eve a couple years back.
  • Mega Man titles are always winter/spring plays for me.
  • November is where I associate with Zelda titles, winter months its RPGs like Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasy. And the usual hodgepodge of classic "horror" games though October. Usually by spring and summer my gaming decreases. Also of it means anything I tend to play more during the evenings and night than I do during the day.
  • Another question. Why do you think we like to play these certain games at certain times? My theory is that is has to do with nostalgia and what time of year it was when we first experienced them.
  • RPGs and long, story driven games on the weekend. Shorter, pick up and play games on the weekdays.
  • During low times at work during the year, I've noticed I find myself eager to play tactics-based RPGs and strategy games a lot more such as Final Fantasy/Ogre Tactics, Advance Wars, etc. which makes total sense.

I like playing either Duck Hunt or simple NES platformers like Felix the Cat (and can't forget Super Mario Bros!) with coffee Sunday mornings.
  • I used to play Super Mario All-Stars on days that I was home sick from school. Usually took my mind off of feeling miserable.

Christmas time reminds me of the games that I got for Christmas over the years. Those were usually highly anticipated and I sunk a lot of hrs into them.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time

    Donkey Kong Country

    Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko

    Twisted Metal 3

    Mega Man X4

    NBA Street

    Time Splitters 2

Summer reminds me of late nights spent gaming with friends over the years. These games trigger those memories.

    Mario Kart 64

    Crash Team Racing

Diddy Kong Racing (notice a theme? )

    Goldeneye

007: Agent Under Fire (The grappling hook was a game changer. Spent a whole summer playing this with friends)

    Guitar Hero 2
  • I like to play games that have heavy winter-themes(or ice/snow levels) when it's good and snowy outside. I'll play certain games during certain points of the year I had them as a kid, such as around my birthday when I would've gotten them. Count me in the RPG in winter group as well.

Occasionally I'll play a game around a holiday that I got that game as a kid, but I'm finding even in adulthood I'm associating certain holidays with even new games. Last Christmas, game-wise, was all about Destiny for me. I'm pretty much over that game, so I'm guessing it's going to be a Star Wars Battlefront/Fallout 4 kind of holiday this year.
  • RPGs during the Summer due to time constraints. I have so little time these days that I've only been playing short platformers. I can't wait till Summer so I can finally play some longer games.

That's funny, one spring I spent a summer exploring every inch of Willow.

Boy was Willow's dad pissed when he found out what I was doing to her.

This statement confuses me; I have much more time for RPGs in the winter.  I guess for me, summer is for outdoor projects, winter is indoor projects. And as a former farmer, summer to me means more work.  I'm assuming then you're a student?

Yeah... This wasn't the case before but now I'm back to school (Law School). When I was working things were different so I hope that clarifies things.
