What are you playing this week?

  • Started playing Yoshi's Woolly World tonight. It is really cute. It is fun to play with 2 players on co-op mode. Very similar style and game play as any of the newer Mario or Kirby games. It's pretty easy though...which is why it's nice that there's the collecting element to it. Having to collect the yarn, the flowers, and the stamps adds a bit more depth to the game other than just beating the levels. Otherwise, it would be far too simple. I only played through half of the 2nd world, but I like it so far
  • 100% all the special levels in Wooly World and then come back to me about how easy it is.

100% would involve collecting all the items, not just beating the levels. Perhaps you should have read the post above, before responding.

I did read the above post "pimp". He talks about the game being extremely easy and the collecting just adding some depth. Besides just "depth" it makes it a very challenging game.

I thought she offered a very accurate and insightful opinion of Yoshi's Wooly World, that I would agree with.

If you found the game to be overly difficult, then that's just your opinion.

  • If you are actually trying to get everything in the levels especially the special levels it is a difficult game. If you are just trying to rush through the levels as quickly as you can then yes it is quite easy.

Which game is that? Did it just launch?

EDIT: Just saw it on Metacritic. Was thinking about picking it up but so far it has 1 "good" review and 13 "mixed" reviews. Average score 63. Ehhhhh :/

I'm a big DBZ fan and i preordered it along with resurrection F. Im also a big fan of conventional 2D fighters as well as the DBZ SFC games. I think it's a nice change of pace from the last number of open worldy games we've seen and it's more of a "back to basics" for the DBZ 2D fighter. I wouldn't expect any chode reviewing the game right after launch to have any idea of the evolution of the franchise or the homage this lastest release is paying to it. So mixed reviews are expected.
  • Still working on Dragon Warrior IV.......getting close to the end though going by the map locations. Just got to the Shrine of the Colossus.
  • Tales of Zestiria! And Yoshi's Woolly World on the side!
  • Super Mario Galaxy 2.... My gf wants to play.

When she's at work: Axelay. I've given this one a bit more effort recently and moving along the learning curve well. Great game with cool music and bosses.
  • I've been playing some metroid prime recently. I also have been beating contra once every day, practicing a no-death run
  • I'm still grinding through legend of legacy, super fun just trying to finish by the time yo-kai watch comes out
  • This weekend, I was in the mood for another run through of Turtles in Time. Easily my favorite beat-em-up. I have to admit though, this is one of those games I cannot play through without cheating in some way. I used to be able to do it as a kid, but now, I don't play it often enough to have the skillset to make it.

Now that I've finished that, I thought I would do another play through in Metroid Zero Mission (playing it through a Game Boy Player of course). No cheating with this one.

Always Turtles in Time! Thta's a great game and it's always fun to play. Haha, what do you mean by cheating? Turning the lives up or setting it to "easy".

I do that with a lot of SNES games and don't care, haha. I don't have my game genie out right now for SNES but I look forward to using it. I made a thread about it called "When do you say f*#! it and use a game genie?" .

Definition of cheating will probably vary for me depending on the game, but for Turtles in Time, it means using Game Genie for infinite lives.  I know there is also invicibility code as well, but I perfer to use infinite lives because you can still die, and I try to track how often I die.  Even though I'm cheating, it's still my goal to die as little as possible.  But without umlimited lives, there is no way I would get through the entire game anymore.

It's strange, some games I refuse to play with cheats, and others I refuse to play without cheats (Turtles IV being one of them).

Yeah yeah, I gotcha. That's cool. Like I said, I look forward to having my game genie close at hand. That being said, with TMNT 4 I usually just turn the lives up and difficulty down. I think you can do that, I'm pretty sure...? Haha... Going to one day put that infinite life code on and then play it on hard, just for fun.

It's fun to just play through a game to see all the different levels.

Same with me. There are some games I would NEVER use a game genie for, haha. Some I don't give a crap about. I just want to enjoy the game.
  • Cool. Yeah, in my opinion, adjusting difficulty level or lives is not cheating as long as it's an opion in the game menu. In other words, as long as you are not punching in a code to make the changes. With that said, while it may not be cheating to beat a game on easy, one wouldn't have the same bragging rights as someone who can beat it on hard. But since I know I won't beat it on either difficulty setting, I'll just cheat.
  • Update - Castlevania Bloodlines beaten!
  • New THPS5 - pretty dope and goes back to old school for sure

Why do I keep hearing negative stuff about this? Is it worth picking up if you liked 1-4?

Nice! I just beat this one yesterday myself. It was on Normal difficulty, not Expert, but I still call that a win.

And after having finally played all the way through it, I have to say that I think Bloodlines may be one of my very favorite in the series. Not the toughest one by a long shot but just full of really solid game play, great graphics and music and some cool level designs.

  • I will be playing Halo 5 starting tonight!
  • Playing through Last Alert (TGCD) and debating on picking up Halo 5 tomorrow.
  • Finished Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness on N64 last night. Now switching focus to Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass since I never finished it yet.
  • I am currently back to Hyrule warriors, trying to get the stupid adventure mode completed. I finally got a copy again last weekend after i swapped my LE version with scarf for a sealed luigi 3DS a few months back
  • Right now, it's Zelda II exclusively. Making more progress than ever before; I'm totally going to beat this one...finally!
  • Short bouts of Dragon Warrior 2 on my GBA while on the treadmill, which seems oddly appropriate. Other than that, I popped in Ice Climber last night to celebrate that I just located a box for it at a not-insane price. It's a game. I think I'd like it better if the jumping was more consistent. It feels like you can never be totally sure if you're actually going to land on the platform you're trying to reach.
  • Played a little bit of Combatribes. I didn't get it. I keep getting my ass kicked by the 3rd boss, which doesn't leave me enough continues to stand a chance on the final levels. It's going to get 1 more chance at best at this point

I've also been playing Etrian Odyssey IV. Either it's way harder than the first one, or I just suck, because I've already died like 20 times. Usually after an hour of play and I get greedy and don't get out of the dungeon while I have a chance. I'm thinking I need to get a more casual game to pace this with

    What's your experience with Nosferatu?

The SNES game?  Seems a bit out of left field (presumably you saw it in my pic), but I haven't played it yet.  I was planning a very deliberate progression of that style of game (though that is on hiatus)

1 - Out of this World (beaten)

    2 - Blackthorne (in progress)

    3 - Flashbac

    4 - SOS

    5 - Nosferatu

    6 - Prince of Persia

    7 - Prince of Persia 2

Others (?) - No Escape, Lester the Unlikely,
