Fatal Frame - Digital Only.....?

Come on.................the harddrive is so goddamn dinky!?!?!?

I know I know we weren't going to get the game to begin with so I should be happy and I am but this just sucks kinda.

  • Yeah it really lame. I have to make room for the Xenoblade X data packs, so I'll end up buying a cheap external storage drive anyway, mostly for stuff I'm not actively using. DKC TF and Metroid Prime Trilogy alone practically fill it up lol.

I'm not buying this game until there's a sale and I find eshop cards discounted as well. Sucks since I'd like to play it.

I am probably going to do the same to be honest......I can't justify paying $50 for a digital game man I just can't do it, it doesn't feel right.

  • No kidding, I haven't spent more than $10 for a digital game, and probably $5 average. Not on a Nintendo console of course, since they sadly don't know how to give good digital sales or provide good hardware to support it.
  • It's funny, I just bought my first cheap shit flash drive to move all my WiiU data onto. I really want to support Fatal Frame as much as possible, but one way or another this thing is getting banished to the flash drive as soon as Xenoblade Chronicles comes out.

Still, though, it looks rad as hell and I feel like the WiiU is a damn near perfect format for a Fatal Frame title.

It really is and when we were told it was a JPN exclusive a lot of people were upset but the fans made it happen.

They kind of half-assed getting it to us but we will see what the future holds..... Wii U gamepad is going to get put to actual use rather than being a second mini-TV / map.

That being said Pokemon Snap 2...

  • Truly disappointing. I really wanted a physical version because this game looks interesting. My Wii u internal storage doesn't have enough space though. Donkey kong tropical freeze is taking up a bunch of room. Yeah yeah get an external drive... Whatever. Plus I wouldn't pay full price for a digital game.
  • Just a game I won't have to buy to complete a physical Wii U set

It does suck though for people looking forward to the game. Digital only copies suck.
  • Yeah it really sucks. I dont mind smaller titles being eShop only but this is a full retail game being offered as a download only. 16 GB it takes up. Half of the hard drive. I don't even have 16 GB to spare and I don't even have that much downloaded already. Sadly I will not be able to play this game which looks awesome. Like some of you I cannot justify spending $50 on a digital game. Ill play it if a physical version comes out but I'm not hopeful about it.
  • Would have bought a physical copy but will be passing on the digital copy though. Devil's Third however gets a physical release......
  • Its great that NA will be getting Fatal Frame V but everywhere I look people want to play it but won't because its digital only (myself included) so this game will bomb here in NA. The worst part is NoA will blame peoples' lack of interest and will likely never bring out another game in the series to NA, rather than see what the real problem is, not bringing it out with a retail release. They don't understand you can't make a 16 GB game that costs $50 and make it digital only on a system that's only 32 GB. If Super Mario 3D World were 16 GB, $50 and digital only, that game would bomb too.
  • I feel sorry for you guys, we get the physical release and a collectors edition in Australia, can't wait.

In saying that if your going to refuse to purchase it online due to no physical release then the only one that misses out is yourself.

Nah not missing out on anything. Not worth it at 50 for a download. Plus having to get a dedicated external drive for my wii u and hope it never fails just to store it since the game is so large. Not worth buying at that price and not owning anything. Not missing out on anything. The only one hurt is the creators of the game and nintendo. Because a ton of people arent buying it that would have otherwise. Ive seen hundreds of people say they wont be buying it. Game is going to flop. If it were 10 dollar download or less I could justify getting an external device and download it but yeah Im not down with digital downloads. Never will be. Thats why Ive loaded up on physical games. Ill have plenty to play and backlogged for the inevitable digital only consoles.

So you want them to never release another fatal frame in the US?

Im fine with that if they arent going to release them physically or way way cheaper then I dont want them anyway. I dont support or buy digital unless it is worth it to me. At retail prices or anywhere close, it isnt worth it to me. I have plenty of games to play.

The series has generally sold better here in NA then in EU yet we are the ones getting screwed with a digital only release but thank goodness Devil's Third is getting a physical release, thank goodness NOA pushed for that huh I find it very hard drop $50 on a digital copy of a game myself.

Okay, don't tease me with Pokemon Snap 2. The Wii U is BEGGING for that game and, really, what are the chances it'll happen?

You really think it would be a no-brainer!?!?!? That game would be HUGE! It really has to be done.

    Happy birthday dude!

  • It's so lame especially when europe is getting physical. I can't bring myself to spend $50 on a digital download. Another lost sale, what a shame

    Oh shit, thank you!

And you know what - no brainer, sure, but we know how Nintendo feels about no-brainers. How long have people clamored for a massively epic Pokemon RPG for consoles?

Yup! Sadly this all I'm seeing online too. I know we're probably in the vocal minority but I'm seeing a lot of flak for releasing the game as eShop only. It just doesn't make sense. They can make a retail version of the NES Remix games which are fine for being eShop downloads, since they're small and cheap, but a bigger, more expensive game they can make digital only. It's so backwards! I was really looking forward to this game too. I feel like at some point I'll just give in and buy the eShop version anyway...probably when there's a sale, but it would require deleting a bunch of Virtual Console stuff I have saved, since I really want to play it. But I'm also afraid I'll buy the eShop version and then a few months later a physical version will come out.
  • Yea it does suck that it's digital only, much like Yakuza 5 only being released digitally, despite the previous 4 and the spin off being physical, there's no reason 5 can't be either (both Fatal Frame and Yakuza).
  • For anyone planning on getting Triforce Heroes, Best Buy has an offer for 25% off an eshop card when you buy the game. Would be helpful to lessen the blow on the price of this game (now or for a future sale). I've never seen an eshop card be this cheap, so I might jump on it. Then again I wasn't planning on getting Triforce Heroes until a sale either

Because the creators of pokemon have this distorted view of the people that play their games. They are so hard headed that its a portable game only. People who play pokemon play it in their house lmao. No one is traveling around trading with other people etc. I really think they have this view. You can see it with their stupid pokemon go app thing. They dont realize 50 percent of playing is probably done on a couch or in a bedroom, and the other 50 percent on the toilet.

People would eat up a console pokemon game but they are too stubborn to make it. It would have been perfect for the wii u. Probably would have doubled the current date console sales total. I dont think it would be that hard. Just make it open world rpg with pokemon stadium type animations for battles.

You are right and I'm not trying to defend them but the installed base of Nintendo handhelds in Japan is much larger than here. The last I read is that 1 of every 5 Japenese citizens own a DS or 3DS and they are widely used on public transportation by all ages. I think that's why they are content in keeping the franchise handheld only.

This also makes sense and I have heard the same information elsewhere to... apparently mobile games are the shit there to and are the most popular over anything else.

  • little help here......I feel stupido for good reason, what is this game? I looked at the trailer it kind of looks like silent hill maybe? just curious. I assume from reading some posts here it is pretty good franchise?

Then that furthers the point that they are so damn stubborn that they are limiting the franchise to what japan is like. The rest of the world isnt like that so make a game for the rest of the world. It would sell so many Wii U's. I swear companies are so arrogantly wrong all the time its amazing they made it this far.
