It's funny, people rag on LJN as the worst publisher, but most of their games are at least decently playable. THQ is in the same boat...there's some obvious stinkers, but much of their stuff is at least passable. Mindscape though...they never get the hate, but even though I enjoy some of their games that most people wouldn't, I still can't defend shit like The Last Starfighter or Days of Thunder.
I've always argued that LJN is no worse than Mindscape, Data East, or even freakin' Bandai. They all have similar (and similar sized) libraries, a few sports games, licensed titles, etc. LJN was the one picked to be shit on, probably in no small part to AVGN. But hell, his most hated game is a Bandai game. THQ I think is a rung below, along with Ocean and Virgin. But I think it's hard to top Active Enterprises. Even Color Dreams isn't that bad.
No impugning the good name of M.U.L.E. It's fisticuffs at dawn, sir.
Also, to the above, is Data East really considered all that bad? I loved Bad Dudes as a kid and so did everyone I knew, but it seems like I hear a lot of bashing these days.
George Carlin had a bit about the notion that "there's always someone worse off." It's possible, but once you start getting close to the bottom of the barrel it starts to get really tough to determine who's worse off. Who's worse off, a crazed, alcoholic paraplegic or a crippled dwarf with halitosis? I'd like to think the same notion applies here. What's worse, Barbie or Castlequest? Circus Caper or Renegade? Super Pitfall or NFL Football?

The arcade game is ok I guess, haven't played it for a while but it was competent. the NES port is shit, you can't even do two player coop.

I dunno, I liked it and can typically breeze through it despite the control quirks. The trick is mastering the basic jump kick (not the whirlwind one). It does as much damage as the power punch but is faster to pull off.
Also, to the above, is Data East really considered all that bad? I loved Bad Dudes as a kid and so did everyone I knew, but it seems like I hear a lot of bashing these days.
No, but I was just thinking of another middle of the road publisher with a library similar to LJN. Both have sports games, movie licensed games (Data East did the Robocops), and a few games like Captain America and the Avengers or Werewolf that are kind of flawed but some people like. But it's weird that LJN got singled out.
I don't particularly care for LJN's Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street, but I acknowledge there is more to both of those games than the Youtube reviewers usually go into. Likewise, LJN's sports games aren't horrible, there are just better options (why get NFL Football when Tecmo Superbowl exists?)

I thought only the first Robocop was done by Data East? I thought the rest were by Ocean.

You're kinda both correct. All three games were developed by Ocean, but the first two were published by Data East. By the time Robocop 3 came around, Ocean was publishing their own stuff.

Ah, had no clue Ocean developed the first one too, it seems to be of such a higher quality (and a much different style) than 2 and 3. On the topic of LJN games, I adore Karate Kid. Very reminiscent of Spartan X/Kung Fu, which I love as well.
I like Hook and Dragon's Lair. My picks would be Rocky and Bullwinkle, Bible Adventures, The Hunt for Red October and Bill and Ted's Excellent Video Game Adventure.
The worst NES game I've played(not counting unlicensed games) is probably Karate Champ. Terrible control, even worse collision detection. It's at least playable(unlike what I hear about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Dragon's Lair), but it's not fun.
Even though it's probably not the technically worst NES game, I nominate Wall Street Kid. I absolutely fucking hate this game with the burning passion of a thousand suns. It's hard to pinpoint exacts, but I couldn't give a flying shit to even think of it further.
What's worse, the fact that I like almost every game mentioned so far in this thread, or the fact that my vote for worst NES game goes to Super Mario Bros 3? You decide!
SMB3 huh? I think you're trying too hard to be different.
Wiz has been saying this for years. I sincerely doubt he's just trying to be different..
Took the words right out of my mouth! I hate the first one too, but not enough to knock the third off it's perch. They're my 1-2 worst games by far though.
It could just mean that he has been trying to be different for years! I mean, come on, everyone's opinions are going to vary, but to say all LJN games, Hydlide, Deadly Towers, Knight Rider, and all 400 other bad NES games are better than SMB3 is just crazy talk.
I'll give you Knight Rider, but Hydlide and Deadly Towers aren't that bad. As for LJN, I haven't played one I don't like yet, and I even rank The Punisher as one of my top five favorites. There's only been a couple games in this thread that I can say I didn't like, and I would sooner play any one of them before SMB3. I don't know why I don't like it, I just flat out don't, but I would play Days of Thunder, Rocky & Bullwinkle, or fuck, even Color a Dinosaur before I ever fire up SMB3 again.
Being a huge Days of Thunder fan I was very excited to see they had made a nes game for it. That excitement quickly left when I fired up the game. Color a Dinosaur isn't bad either, it provides some solid chuckles because of the god awful patterns you can use to "color"
I used to like Days of Thunder. I watched the movie later on TV because I liked the game.
I didn't scan through all 6 pages but if no one has mentioned Taboo: The Sixth Sense yet, shame on you all! It's one of those carts like Color a Dinosaur that isn't even a "game"...and only barely qualifies as an "activity". The fact that some poor suckers paid $50 for it once upon a time just makes my heart weep.
But if I'm going from childhood memories and games I despised back then, I have to say that Defender of the Crown received a lot of my ire. The idea was ambitious but it was f*cked over by terrible, wretched, stroke-inducing controls. God, I hated the controls in that game.
Data East, Ljn, and Bandai had bad and good games. I don't understand the hate for these specific publishers or any others. Are these people old enough to be playing my old games? Just because uber kiddies suck at playing them doesn't mean they were bad.

Deja Vu is a very valid one for worst NES game! I always forget about it because, well, it sucks lol.
I have Defender of The Crown right here on my shelf, and I've never once played it.
You know what game really sucks? Swamp Thing:
I remember getting it CIB at a yard sale in like 1999 and immediately hating it after the decent intro, lol. What awesome artwork for such a shitty game!
Just trying to have some fun with this one and I'm not sure if this topic has been beaten to death but I was wondering what everyones opinion is of the worst NES game ever released?
My choice would be: 10 Yard Fight
Correct. I think it's generally accepted that 10 Yard Fight is the worst NES game and possibly the worst video game on any system. This thread should really be about second worst.

Cliffhanger is also very bad. Not the worst, but for a game released so late in the life of the NES, it's awful.

Hot Dog Champ is for fucking chumps. That game blows. So did the last Joker's Card
I keep hearing this one get mentioned, yet I've never seen nor played it.

Are you ready to have your mind blown? This is what people have paid good money for... Keep in mind I found it on youtube and anyone can make one...
And for good measure, in case anyone who owns it has not played it yet...

Also, Juggalos are sadly still a thing.

At least "Swamp Thing" has the decency to put THQ in big letters in the front so you know what to expect.
THQ also had a hand in some of the best wrestling games of all time, though. Massive deception IMHO, lol.

They cleaned up their act later, but on the NES they were more or less a dud factory.
