Have you ever been cheated on eBay?

I've only been cheated once, IIRC, but it was on such a damn good item. =(

I paid $60 for the SNES version of Chrono Trigger back in 2006, and I never got it. The guy had largely good ratings, too, so being cheated is the last thing I would've expected.

  • Yes, about a couple dozen times on both ends (selling and buying) in 9 years, I consider myself lucky as that's really not that much for how much I've bought/sold on ebay
  • Few different times I never get my item I paid for. Always got my money back through paypal though.
  • I've been screwed out of items quite a few times. The only time I didn't get my money back was when I first started eBaying and didn't realize how long I had to file a claim
  • buying, i always got my money back...

selling, lets just say that paypal can suck a big fat donkey ****! only a few times and they werent for a large amount, but still, you provide tracking info, it shows that it was delivered, and they STILL screw you. paypal is awesome!
  • one that ticks me off the most is i sold a snes. beautiful condition, controllers, power supply etc..well a couple days later the woman emailed me and said it was not working. mind you it probally hadnt even got to her. she in turns mails me a yellowed, holes busted in the sides, controller cords cut and taped back together snes. and filed a claim thru her credit card and paypal took the money out of my account. so she screwed me for a snes. oh yeah the wonderful company that is paypal sided with me in the dispute. yes we agree she ripped you off but were not taking the hit your just out. so i learned to use a credit card and not paypal money
  • Ive got screwed twice on Ebay. Once when I bought a small scooter and The guy used a stock photo and said it was in excellent condition an it only needed a carb. adjustment. It Looked like it had been through World War II.

So I contacted the seller (turned out to be a 15 year old kid who agreed to take it back. So I shipped it back and then they refused delivery. So I called the seller back again and talked to the dad (who was A cock with ears), and he said that it was my problem Now. Turned them into Ebay and they might have got suspended or something lame like that.

The Second time was when i bought like 25 games from this guy and never got them. The guy did find the tracking number and it said it was delivered So either Somebody stole off my door step or they delivered to the wrong address and those people kept it.
  • Only once as a buyer. I bought and the next day the guy destroyed his account, and sent me the wrong games. I never got my money back even though I did everything possible. It was surprising that he ruined everything cause he had 100% feedback and about 300 feedback (if i remember correctly).
  • reading dougs post reminded me of my favorite ebay transaction... i bought a lot of games from a dude for $600 and doug bought stuff from the same dude. anyway, the jackass sent my package to doug and dougs to me. i checked out dougs stuff. it was in great condition (and my stuff was described as great condition in the auction description). soooooo after doug and i shipped eachother's package to one another, i open mine and see that some of mine are in absolute shit shape and some games even have sharpie all over them. i also bought about $175 worth of snes stuff off of that guy too (outside of ebay and a seperate paypal payment).

soooooo the seller paid doug and i the shipping charges that it cost us to fix the problem, so at least doug's side was done, and he was happy with his transaction. no harm, no foul. anyway, i demanded a $150 refund out of the $800 total payment i sent him for both lots and shipping. he refused and said that he already paid doug and i $20 each to ship them back to the correct buyer, so i opened up 2 paypal disputes (even though the other transaction with the snes stuff was a perfect transaction... yea i know, that was a dick move, but i needed to make sure that i got some money back). they KNEW they were fucked, so they refunded both payments and told me to ship the stuff back to them. by that time (3 weeks after the claim was filed, i had cleaned all the games and even sold/traded some of them away, so shipping them back wasnt possible. sooooooooo, yada yada yada, they asked me to send them $600 and we called it even.

if they wouldve just sent me the $150 i asked for in the beginning, they wouldve saved themselves the hassle and the negative feedback i left them. instead, it cost them $200 and they got negged BIG TIME!

overall, i didnt lose out on any money and the deal for all of the things was a good deal, but because of the condition of some of them, it was about going rate. it was just a pain in the ass. fire n ice cib was described as great condition (the box was literally torn like a phone book is torn in a tough man competition). bonks was described as cib (thank god the box was a 9.5/10 as well as the cart) and it didnt even come with a manual. finally, the cib bomberman 2 that was supposed to be great condition had blockbuster razor slashes on both spines, and they were very bad. what an asshole!

  • I BIN'd a CIB Little Samson for $31 in about 2003 from a guy named nmaseys (or something like that) and it never showed up... long story short: he eventually cut communication and I neg'd him. I didn't really care at the time because the game wasn't really a hot commodity, but as time goes on...
  • I haven't really had any problems yet. I bought a rugby jersey from indonesia a month later it hadn't turned up and he gave me a full refund. So that ended well. The other time was quite recently when I sold a bedside for $10 for local pickup, the buyer never picked it up. So I lost like a dollar on ebay listing fees. But that's all my problems with eBay. image
  • I've been screwed quite regularly over the last year, mainly on high dollar purchases/items. I've also restrained myself from paying many auctions that would have turned pretty bad. Never got much trouble at selling so far though.

There's currently a non-receipt dispute open in my Paypal account, for a purchase done right here on NA. image
  • Last year we had about 4 different auctions that we hit bin 10 seconds after it was listed and the seller backed out an relisted. Do love the fb policy in those cases image

Also got screwed on a $125 order to CANADA that sucked big time!

Had another package delivered and still lost the claim

    not too bad overall however
  • i have the saddest stories ever so please don't get started on this
  • Contra force + Adventures of Link + Super Mario 3 for 30$ plus shipping. It never arrived. There was no picture. Told me the package was delivered back to him after a month, and said he resent it priority. Never got it, never heard from him. Filed a paypal claim and he got super pissed off at me! Ebay name was SuperFuzzyMuff or something.
  • Actually, no I haven't image

hahaahah that seller is a douche... but i think you got him mixed up with your original seller. there is NO WAY that the fuzzymuff fellow woulda sold you those 3 carts for that price. his prices were astronomical on his stuff. maybe he cheated you on another deal though, cuz he cheated a lot of people.

I love this description, made me laugh out loud a little.
  • nothing worth bitching about, I once bought a game that was delivered to the wrong place. Thanks USPS
  • I've only been screwed once in my entire time collecting... and it wasn't on eBay. And I don't even know what to believe happened, either. The guy seems like a reputable member (of DP), and he said he got something in the mail saying "a part of his package was lost." Not sure what that meant, but I never got anything.

Wasn't much, anyways. Only like $50 - few GB/GBC items.
  • I havent really been cheated yet. One guy took 2 months to send me a game once but he gave me double refund so I came out on top.
  • My most recent case of being cheated was actually on Amazon. We sent an order to Alaska several weeks ago. After about three weeks, the customer kept emailing, frantic that his N64 system had not yet arrived. I told him basically the same thing everytime, that customs had possession of his package of it was not there yet, but that it would eventually arrive. After the fourth week the buyer filed a complaint, similar to a Paypal dispute. We've only had one other on Amazon, and were also fucked on that one, but in a different way. I provided tracking for the package, which at the time only said that the item had at some point passed through Washington. Because the package did not get to his house by some date Amazon promises, they stole my money back and gave it to the buyer. Now the buyer gets his system and his money. Needless to say I will no longer ship to Alaska, and I told Amazon to reverse the bullshit decision, or close my account. Amazon is only good for Christmas anyway, so no terrible loss if we were to no longer sell there. Just absolute garbage how they handle claims, and I recommend no one ever even consider selling on Amazon.

Yeah there A to Z guarantee sucks for the seller. I would second that avoid amazon
  • The most money I lost was a $500 purchase back 5 years ago on 100 or so DVDs. I got a package with about 20% of them and so I filed a claim. Paypal told me I had to go file a police report which I reluctantly tried to do but couldn't file a claim with the police because I couldn't prove that a crime had been committed yet (even though it was 45 days after I paid). "They could still be on the way or still intending to send them", is what I was told despite hearing nothing from them ever. I relayed the info to paypal and they responded by closing the claim in my favor and giving me the maximum which was $200 or something like that, and then I thanked them for sending me to the police station for nothing, freaking ridiculous.
