Price Check on SNES/N64 Lot

A guy from work came across a SNES and some games when visiting his parents and wanted to know if I'd be interested in any of it. He doesn't have any sentimental attachment to them and wants me to make him an offer. I welcome any advice on what a reasonable offer would be for the lot. He has no idea what this stuff is worth and I want to do right by him. Thanks!

  • Looking at $200 worth... Offer 120?
  • If the snes is clean I would offer 100. If yellowed I would offer 75 for the lot.
  • eBay is your friend
  • As is pricecharting.com, for the games at least.
  • If someone offered me $75 for all that id laugh at them.
  • If you want to do right, then you are better off paying what he wants or close to what it is worth. He might be upset finding out later on he sold you something at a bargain price.

Yeah I use that site a lot, I'd pass on the lot and just help him sell it if he wanted retail for it. If we come to an agreement most of this stuff will be duplicates for me. I would end up bartering most of this lot away with locals to fill holes in my collection. The only thing I really need out of it are the boxed games.

I cringed when he told me that he threw most of his Nintendo stuff away when he was in college. All his NES stuff ended up in the trash, no telling what he had...I tell myself they were all commons.

That's the best way to look at it, honestly. I happen to be wuite the VHS enthusiast and went to a somewhat local comic book shop a few years back to check out the massive selection of tapes they had, and the owner told me that the day before they dumped every single one into a dumpster because nobody ever bought any of them. Imagine the disappointment!

I plan on telling him what it's all worth, and then explaining the ins and outs of eBay and what he'd likely end up with after PayPal and eBay take their cut...not to mention having to mail each item out. He doesn't really care about the money anyway, he just knew I was a collector from our conversations. He knows I'm not looking to pay retail as well.

Then "do right by him" does not apply. Offer what you would be comfortable with paying.

I am of the mindset that educating him is doing right by him. I also think that no one should pay eBay prices in a face to face transaction. Yes, that's what it goes for, but the amount you pay is not the amount they receive. There is room for both parties involved to get a deal. Thank you for the advice.

  • If your buddy has a bunch of games he doesn't care about, he'll care more about $100.

If you want to "do right by him" then give him $100. Ebay is a hassle and he doesn't know anywhere else to give them.

IMO $150-200 is too much for just a pal. He's not a retail store. Like you said, you can tell him he an get $200 on eBay (minus fees & time) or $100 cash is easiest.
