I'd actually argue Taboo is worse. At least with Color A Dino, you know from the title alone what you're getting into.

Taboo The Sixth Sense sounds like it could be interesting, something like Univited, not an f'n tarot card simulator.

Imagine you get to rent Taboo for a whole weekend as a kid

I feel terrible for all those kids, at least Color a Dinosaur had some sort of objective to it, even if it was just to color things. The more I think about it, the more I think that the claim in Nintendo Power about it not being suitable for certain audiences was a stealth warning that it was an awful game and you should avoid it.

I know it's pricey, but I legit want Color a Dinosaur.

    Dinosaurs rule!

Honestly, It's probably the game that makes me smile the most in a weird way. It's bold simplicity is just hilarious and it is a testament to how quirky and experimental the NES library is. They literally just threw stuff at the wall to see what stuck back then.

. That's kinda how I feel. It's called "color a dinosaur", and says on the cart and box, ages 3 - 6. You should have known what you were getting.

    Unlike Tab-im-a-fuckin-magic-8ball-simulator-boo
  • Haha, this is awesome. Requesting the shittiest game is interesting in itself.

So he liked Battletoads/Double Dragon... you play any others? I always wonder about how "kids" in their teens or early 20's would like these games.

Contra or Ghosts & Goblins would be good, haha. Because we just accepted their difficulty back then. I think nowadays a person would be like "What in the hell?? Why?"

We played a bunch. But he gave up easily on each one we tried. Maybe it's just he is part of the spoonfed-instant gratification age, or maybe it is just that I have over 350 games to choose from, unlike back in the day when you had like 5 of them and nothing else to play.

Hmmm, I guess it depends on why he gave up so quick.

We have enough knowledge and maturity to know that for some games we have to spend a bit of time to get a handle on. You have to die hundreds of times figuring out the physics, power-ups, and enemies/things not to touch.  Perhaps you need to explain the "Nintendo-hard" learning curve. Once you get the handle on a game, you can enjoy it.

Having 350 to pick from is nice, too, haha. I'm sure it'd be cool for him to try different ones out.

But yeah, I'd make sure to explain "The only way to not get your ass kicked is to put a little time in and get a handle on the game." for the games that are actually good.

    Exactly!

That's what I loved so much about the old days, there was that whole "Screw it, let's try it." attitude that the industry is missing now.

And like Ozzy said in this thread too, "it's called Color a Dinosaur and says ages 3-6 on the cart, you should understand what you're getting".
  • Lol I just did this the other night with my little cousin. I explained to her how back in the days games made about amazing, popular IPs were usually shit, like Ghostbusters! Which was the first thing I popped in the NES We then played Back to the Future and ended up with a total LJN night. Unfortunately the best thing she liked was Dr. Mario, but that was mainly because she's played it on her phone :/

Nah, fuck that. Millennials don't start until 1990.

  • There's no clear dates on what's what, no one agrees. But generally Gen Y and Millennials are considered the same thing.

    Generation X Born: 1966-1976

Generation Y, Echo Boomers or Millenniums: Born: 1977-1994

    Generation Z: Born: 1995-2012

I think you jump the gun a little bit. Gen X was pretty long after the Baby boomers. '66-late 80's.

Then you have Gen Y (Late 80's, 90's), and now you have the Millenials (2000+, hence the name)....

Gen X had the beginnings of technology and spanned a long time perriod ending with the birth of PC's. I was born in 1983 and I'm part of Gen X.

Gen Y had PC's and internet pretty commonplace.

Now, 2000+ we have the Millennials. Pretty much all the technology we know today, except less sophisticated.

Like... some people say that I would be considered a Millennial?? Yeah right. Nope. Baby boomers kept on booming and gen X was born into the 80's.

Yeah, certainly. Gen Y was the 90's. These kids grew up with PC's and internet, but not laptops, high speed downloading, and USB sticks.

The Millennials are now the age of 12-15... they grew up with superior technology and probably think libraries exist to have computers in them for research.

Hmm. I keep hearing the media call people in my age range "millenials"(I'm 27), but your definition makes a lot more sense.

Gen Y and Millennial are the same thing though.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millennials - Millennials (also known as the Millennial Generation[1] or Generation Y) are the demographic cohort following Generation X. There are no precise dates when the generation starts and ends; most researchers and commentators use birth years ranging from the early 1980s to the early 2000s.

http://www.socialmarketing.org/newsletter/features/generation3.htm <-- looks to be reposting same numbers I had

http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/Generation-Y.html Also called millennials, echo boomers, internet generation, iGen, net generation.

http://jasondorsey.com/millennials/the-top-gen-y-questions-answered/ - There is no one correct name for my generation, but there are names that are more commonly used than others, with the most popular being Millennials and Gen Y. (The guy claims "Jason Dorsey is the authority on Millennials and Gen Y. He’s been featured on 60 Minutes, 20/20, The Today Show, The View, The Early Show and many more")

I think the bulk of people in this thread are confused and thinking Gen Y and Millennials are seperate groups, when they're not.

  • yeah, "Gen Y" was just a placeholder name until the more popular "Millennials" took over.

as far as i'm concerned, a generation is 18 years.

It is widely accepted that Baby Boomers run from 1946-1964.

Gen X would then be 1965-1982.

Gen Y/Millennials would be 1983-2000 (ends in 2000, hence the name).

Gen Z/unnamed next group will run from 2001-2018.
  • By that logic im the same generation as a current 9th grader. I call bullshit on these generation groupings.

I think Gen X goes until late 80's. Gen Y is 90's +, and Millenials were born after the millennium (hence the technology they're growing up with).

    So that means:

I'm a gen X (someone who grew up with technology, sort of), and all the tweens running around with smart phones thinking Facebook and twitter are the most important things in the world are Millennials.

I've posted like 5+ sources.  I can not find any real source saying Y is diffrent than millenials. Where are you getting your info from?

The ones born after 2000 is Gen Z https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Z  Some people say Gen Z starts as early as 1995, some say after 2000.

And if you don't believe wiki, just go there and check out the sources linked to the page. But Gen Z is not Millennials by anyone's standards, it's always been Gen Y = Millennials.  Gen Z was named "The homeland generation" for a while.
