I have perspective.   A video game that cheats (looking at you, Need for Speed Most Wanted on the 360) can still be rage inducing.

I just call Ilya Bryzgalov and that calms me down.

  • I used to play semi-competitive Halo 2 (just in-state tourneys, etc.) and I threw my controller in a hotel room after a tourney that I lost and busted it (one of two controllers I ever threw). I kept the broken controller, and at any tourney I went to after that I always had it with me so I could take anger out on it. I smashed it further a few times just playing games solo in my room when I was really frustrated.. last time I checked it was in a few pieces looking real FUBAR (luckily I haven't felt smash-happy in a couple years). Besides that controller, I just listen to music and yell... haha
  • I agree with some of the others... walk away and take a break. You will almost always play better when you return.

Just keep one busted controller around as a spikin' controller. Worked well for me in my youth; had one broken Atari controller I could slam on the floor in rage.

This is genius, lol. Keep an old  Sega CD around to jump off the couch onto!

Haha, nice. The "Spikin' Controller", I like that.

I have done amazing things in games like Mega Man 2 and have gotten very far in Ninja Gaiden, but I can't get passed 8-3 on Mario Bros and the rage is terrible. I really want to enjoy myself, but I have been trying for so freaking long. Any tips on improving in a calm and collected manner?

    I appreciate any input.

To the OP: Let's get you through this together... You're having troubles with SMB 3? Don't be ashamed. Objectively speaking, I think it's still pretty tricky. Stick with it. World 8-3, you said?

Like I said, go into world 8 with a metric fuck ton of lives, even use the 99 life trick along the way, YOU CAN DO IT! I BELIEVE IN YOU!

Hell, don't hesitate to use a power-up. If you've earned it along the way, go for it!

I was talking about SMB 1. I beat it last night though. Still, thank you for your support.

Haha, gotcha. SMB can be a bit trickier, too.

    Well, good job!

  • I dont play online anymore because I used to get too angry. My PS3 controller sailed across the room, smashed a few pictures frames and went halfway though the wall. So yeah, no more of that.

That controller throwing habit started as a kid though. My cousin threw his MAX controller at the TV and blamed me for it. After that I started doing it when I would get frustrated. In my younger days there were a handful of games I smashed as well. T&C Surf Design comes to mind.

Now that I pay good money for stuff, and that money takes a long time to earn, I have a lot more respect for my surroundings. Thats was the best cure for me.
