My favorite is THUG 1. It kept the basics of the first games, but added in a storyline to it. Granted, the driving was garbage, but other than that, it was great.
THUG 2 on the other hand? Meh. It was fun, but not as engaging.
THPS 1-4, Underground 1 & 2, and AW are all phenomenal. My personal favorite would probably have to be either Pro Skater 4 or Underground, both for the GameCube. They have a lot of nostalgia for me, and the controls on the GameCube controller feel really smooth. Pro Skater 2 for the PS1 or N64 is also a hands down classic.
THPS2 was like a bomb dropping when it came out. The first game was awesome, but the second one really turned it up. 3 is great, as well. THPSU titles are hit or miss, and I've owned them all.
1, 2 and 3 are all balls-to-the-wall-awesome, and got progressively better.
After 4, which was really just more of 3 but not as groundbreaking, the formula went off the rails.
Although, the Underground games were not bad. They just had a lot of unnecessary fluff and were a classic case of style over substance.
All the other games have pretty much sucked balls. Exept Project 8, which was actually pretty decent.
This 1,2,3 were the best in the series, and it is equally difficult to pick one over the other... although I ma lean more towards 3 because its the game that has aged less.
THPS HD on the Online Console stores is a good compilation of everything that was good about those games (with Online play)

I loved the Xtreme series and Jet Moto as a kid. I really need to pick some of those up, I know they're dirt cheap.
I've only owned/played THPS4 for the PS2. I liked skating in recognizable locations such as San Fransisco's waterfront, and Alcatraz.... I was never that good at it (I made it up to the Kona level), and found some of the challenges to be impossible for me.
I grew up LOVING 1,2,3 but never was able to get into the Undergrounds and all the other spinoffs. 5 obviously is out and I had read "back to the roots", so I rented it. It sure did! It has the simple objectives, but also has embedded missions. Feels very much like 1-3 and I actually didn't want to return it to the video store . Probably will buy it when the price drops a bit.
My favorite is probably 2 as well to agree with most others. I mastered 1 and could 100% the whole game in like 15 minutes or something crazy when I was young. 5 is very promising so I suggest yall to try it out!

I am loving the THPS 5 just because I find it amusing that Activision decide to destroy their image and franchise by releasing an unfinished shoddy and buggy game.
I love TH games. I was excited for the new one until I heard it was garbage. I think I played more TH2 back in the day, but TH1 is more iconic for me. TH3 was good, but not as good as the first 2.
I played underground and wasteland a lot as well as pro skater 3. I might have to say downhill jam for the wii is my favorite!! It was a system seller for me...

I'd have to say THPS 1 and 2 because I played them a lot with one of my best friends back in the day. If I had to pick one, I'd give the slight edge to THPS 2 because it's the one I sunk the most time into. I could never get into the Underground games, American Wasteland, or anything TH after the first 3 games.
I know THPS 2 is the better game. It was more developed and really built on the foundation laid by the original, but for me the first one is the go to. I have so many memories of switching between playing that game at a buddies house and learning to jam Danzig tunes on the guitar back in the day.
In my opinion, I think that everything from Pro Skater up to American Wasteland was amazing. My favorite series as a kid, and still one of my favorites today, any game in the series is gold I cant really put one over the other

THPS 1-3 were awesome. It's hard to pick one of them over the others. I liked the style and the number of objectives to complete in a time frame.
I hated the undergound games. Just bored me to death.
Ride, Shred, and Motion were utter crap.
I haven't played 5 yet, but it looks more like underground than the pro skater series, so I'm not too excited for it.
What didn't you care for in Underground?
Just not a big fan of open world games. I like being time constrained and objective oriented.
