1987 NES control deck - PAL(HOL) - Unused (?)

Item is complete (styrofoam lid is not shown but is mint).

The worst damage I can find is minor scuffing of carboard flaps that overlap the edges. Some minor dents that look worse in the pictures than they do in real life.

I'm not a VGA fan, but I'd guess it would be a low gold or high silver. 80 -85

I have some questions about the plastic bag around the console. It doesn't have the "plastic bags are dangerous" lines on there. So I'm wondering if it's original.

There's little to no doubt about controllers and cables being untouched.

So, give us an estimate.

A lot ofthe European consoles didn't have the red text on the plastic bags - I've got a brand new ESP console, and it doesn't have text on the bags either. Even have had a few new controllers, and they all came in that blue-ish bag, which yours also are.

Can't help you with an estimate - But considering it's "just" a normal Control Deck, and it has been opened, I'd say the value is lower than you'd expect it to be.

  •  I've got a brand new ESP console,

    What's that?

     It has been opened

These European consoles didn't come sealed. So there's really no way of telling if a console has been opened or not. Well, there is: I have a Gameboy Micro Famicom edition that has been opened. Because of that, the paint on the fold has cracked. So on close inspection you can see it has been opened. This however, is irrelevant for the NES.

I'm not trying to defend my purchase. I'm sure there's enough people who believe in this whole "opened/unopened" fairytale (as if the soul of the console has escaped by opening the box). So I guess it does bring down the value a bit. I don't care though, as long as it's complete and unused.

  • ESP is Spanish

Aye, they didn't come shrinkwrapped, but some of them came sticker-sealed; if not originally, then store-stickered.

Whether you care or not is irrelevant, since you are asking for an estimate. It's what everybode else cares about, that counts, when you want to sell something/Get something estimated.

And yes, there are ways telling whether a box has been opened or not. You mention yourself the Micro - Don't understand why that example is irrelevant to the NES?

The thing is - If it's opened, it's impossible for a buyer to be sure the thing is unused; if he can't make a local pickup and inspect the thing himself, all he has is your word for it being unused. That's the largest problem. Were it unopened, there would be no doubt.

    I agree.

    I guess it isn't.

Perhaps people think this way, but I don't always feel the same. Shrinkwrap and stickers can be faked. I got an offer for a SNES console. Seller told me he had bought it sealed, and opened it to check if it was ok. Turns out the AC power supply was missing.

If you open a box, you can check.

So what would you say your Spanish console is worth? Thanks for the intel on that plastic bag.

  • Really don't know - One was on eBay forever and I seem to recall the price was around
  • You say you don't know, can't help. Then you proceed to give me quite an accurate estimate of what it should be worth.
A friend of mine got one from the Netherlands or Belgium, can't remember, for about €225 just about a year ago.

Those ebay listings were in a terrible shape though. A good example of  "unusedconsoles. I wouldn't pay 200 bucks for them either.
  • Still a single incident, and I know my friend had been looking for the "right offer" for a while. Don't know how much he negotiated, but he's patient and a good haggler - So don't know if the single incident there will suffice.

Gueesing you're from Holland or Belgium? Come to think of it, there are actually quite a few larger resellers in that area, magixbuttons.com, retrogamingfun.be and retrogamefreak.com to name a few. I'm sure one of them could help you out with a proper estimate
