Funny you mention that... I just wrapped up a playthrough on an emulator-box a week ago and made EXTENSIVE use of the 10x-speed trigger button on the controller.

Maybe that's part of why I never finished as a kid, when later parts of the game felt like such a slog.

I saw you talking about it a little while ago, because that was a week after I beat it for the "Can NA beat every SNES game", so I couldn't use the speed ups.  I played it on PSP though, and the emulator I'm using can hardly run SNES games speed up anyways; they generally don't run faster, just choppier for me.   I ended up spending the bulk of time spinning in circles, mashing button to level up when needed till I was ready to rush though each level.   While I was doing that, I was also playing puzzle quest on my cell phone; multi-tasking is fun.

After that, I picked up Inindo; it's a bit TOO fast to try using speed ups; you already have a run, and combat is for the most part fast paced.

I remember you saying that spent all that time grinding before the big push, but honestly, I don't remember grinding AT ALL when I played through a few weeks ago.

In fact, I never even spent any money at the regular shop, except VERY late game to buy MP increase items for the main character.

The in-level distribution of tents and sleeping bags was generous enough to see me through the whole game.

And since I already knew when people would come-and-go, I knew who not to waste money on for equipment, in general.

It's my style, I have too modes of play in most RPGs, the "Not pay attention and just midlessly grind while doing something else" and "GO GO FUCKING GO!".   I was over-powered in the game (More so when I discovered how cards worked, in chapter 3), except for the last fight.

Yeah, not sure it's possible to be over-powered for that fight.

But it helps A TON to know that you can use your end-game weapon as a magic-casting item to heal yourself...

Agreed. Also, I feel like the consensus is for the most part EB isn't a grind-heavy game. It's pretty well paced out. Unlike say... 7th Saga...

And the irritating thing I remember about 7th Saga was that the more you try to grind and power-up, the farther behind you fall, in reality, versus the other characters.

I only rented it a few times, though, so maybe I should give that one another try and figure out how to actually win.

Did you know there have been patches released to ease up on the grinding and difficulty? Of course some would argue "but that removes the charm/essence of 7th Saga!" Well I say I rather play a game and not lose my sanity lol. More power to those who beat/like original 7th Saga, but whenever I get around to playing it, it will be one of the patches, lol.

Didn't know there were patches like that, but grinding and difficulty, IMO, are NOT where 7th Saga derived its "charm".

I felt like the novelty of that game was the HUGE array of playable characters with independent storylines, plus the odd "avoidable" enemy indications on the world map.
