opinions on recent purchase

Purchased a complete copy of ff3 which I have been looking for. Listing stated generic "box has wear" and only had 1 picture of front showing some sticker residue. I was taking a chance on this item because it was a new seller that was unresponsive but I knew I would have the upper hand in a scam situation so I went for it.

The item arrived today and I thought to myself "wow, this box is mint besides the sticker residue", flipped it over and saw a ripped off chunk of graphics missing... bummer. Its really a shame because the rest of the box is almost perfect. The contents are indeed 100% included and the map and poster look like they have never been touched before. The cart itself has an odd residue shimmer like a cheetah pattern over the label that its very hard to capture on camera. I already own this cart and manual so the box is what I was the most excited about.

My question is how much does this devalue the box in your opinion? I'm torn between keeping it or asking for a refund. I got it for a good price in my opinion, but I honestly am thinking I would rather have a crease in the box than this. How would you feel about this? Part of me says suck it up and be happy for what you paid and swap your other cart in and deal with the box. The other part says to return it or ask for something because that's not something to leave out of a listing imo.

Heres the listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Final-Fantasy-III-Super-Nintendo-SNES-1994-Tested-CIB-/291607527988?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=kjBZpUDjc5OYMPCSekqztqkiryM%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

  • Its really not that bad for the price you paid, he should have shown the rip though.
  • Sell the extra cart with the box. Keep all the nice inserts and get a better box. That is how I complete and upgrade my collection.

I even have an extra FFIII box I can trade to you if you have something I want.

Edit to add. Seriously , if the dude can take 1 picture, why the hell cant he take 2?
  • It's such a shame because this box would be collector quality once you get the sticker residue off minus this and that's what I was really hoping for. Personally the missing graphics are a dealbreaker for me. But I'm curious what the majority would prefer, a perfect box with a graphic rip, or a creased/dented box. I'm unsure how bad others find it.

This is what I am leaning towards. The more I think about it, the inserts being as perfect as they are is pretty rare and I should hold onto them.

    What are you looking for?

  • "Box and manual have some wear"

You're going to return it because you dislike the wear that was described in the auction.. :/ don't waste the sellers time. You said it yourself you were taking a chance. Besides the "wear" only appears to be from a ripped off hang tab. Not a big deal man.

I'd be more upset with the condition of that post office box.... Looks like somewhere along the route it got in a fight with someone's foot.
  • Id keep it and just upgrade down the road, you got it for a solid price. If it were me and i paid over 100 for it id probably consider returning it. Its hard to find the inserts for this game in mint shape so just hang onto it until you find a better box. I call these "place holder" games which are technically added to my collection but will not stay permanently. Don't keep doubles so when you find a nicer box then just switch it out and re-sell that one. Kinda shitty though the seller wasn't up front about the damage. It almost looks like there was probably a sticker there and someone tried to pull it off with too much force-its a real shame. Do a lot of your packages come in looking like someone stepped on it though? I am surprised it wasn't more damaged by the looks of that usps box.

I guess "wear" and "damage" are 2 different things to me. Wear would be creases or beat up edging. This to me is damage and should have been mentioned. If I were to return it that would in fact be a waste of my time then, not the sellers. You are probably right about it being a hang tab ripped off.

As for the box, seeing that when I came home excited made my heart just sink. I fully expected the worst, glad they didn't get damaged.

I totally would hold on to the inserts while you have them.

    Lots of stuff.

  • To be honest, I'm wayyy more surprised this seller opted for a $13 medium Priority box over a standard $6 small flat rate than anything and it also tells me they are likely new to this and simply didn't understand that the damage would affect the buyer.. Not really there fault imo and also I would hang onto it as it's otherwise very nice besides the small tear on the back..

Edit: Just checked and he literally has 1 feedback... Which further enforces my guesses about the seller..
  • I got a reply back from the seller and he was apologetic about the situation. That made me feel better. Im holding onto it for now. It really is a nice copy otherwise
  • For $98 and everything else being mint, i'd be stoked.
  • Clean off sticker residue and display the box face out on your shelf. Flip the extras if you ever find another decently priced box.

    Mint is overrated.
  • Honestly I don't think it looks that bad. If it were me I'd keep it at least until I found a nicer one
