  • Now I hope my copy of Pal Rainbow Island gets here soon enough.
  • Pesterminator is done.
  • Super Spike V'Ball is done.
  • Rampart done:

  • FINALLY!!! Finally, finally, finally!! Finally made my way through those bastard holes in green rock levels in Adventures of Dino Riki and beat that weird deformed bee thing monster in the end. I looped the entire game, so the first level and high score on the screen speaks for its own. This is the first time I've ever beat this game as well:

  • Put me down for Sunday Funday. Fish Fall is done.

Congratulations! That's a fiendishly tough one.

  • Took me almost 10 hours trying this thing, but Krusty's Fun House is done.

    Good grief...
  • I got to level 17 in Tengen Tetris, and apparently the level counter doesn't increase from there. So I'm calling it beaten.

  • My friend and I played through and beat Rc pro am 2 today. We were confused when the game suddenly ended after beating level 36. I looked it up online and found out we actually beat the game.
  • Metal Mech gone
  • I beat Space Shuttle Project.  I would have posted a photo, but it automatically switched back to the title screen before I could take one.
  • Marvel's X-Men is done:

    Oh wait....

    9 Marvel's X-Men

Ah, OK, Marvel's X-men. Thank you. Next time I'll say "I beat Nintendo's Super Mario Bros."
  • Bump: Captain Planet completed:

Even though I beat this game before and now I beat this game again, partially for points and partially for "fun" and masochizm, this is the first time I've ever noticed that:

This is the full transcript before the final level: "This is it planeteers... If we don't stop Duke Nukem now, the planet could die from the ozone hole he is creating. It is too dangerous for us! We need you, Captain Planet!". Was there something intended or is that just plain coincidence??

Darn it, I wanted to beat this one soon. I am a sucker for bad games.

    Well done!

That was the actual name of the villain from the show.

    From Wikipedia:

"The original game was released as Duke Nukem during 1991 as a two dimensional platform game, which was IBM PC compatible, and featured 320×200, 16-color EGA graphics with vertical and horizontal scrolling. The original game had three episodes, the first distributed as shareware. The first Duke Nukem game was titled Duke Nukem, but Apogee learned that this name might have already been trademarked for the Duke Nukem character of the television series Captain Planet and the Planeteers, so they changed it to Duke Nukum for the 2.0 revision.[3] The name was later determined not to be trademarked, so the spelling Duke Nukem was restored for Duke Nukem II and all successive Duke games."

It's one of those games that no one seems able to decide what the title should be. Is it "The Uncanny X-Men", like the box and manual say --

-- or is it "Marvel's X-Men", like the title screen says --

-- or simply "X-Men", as intuition would suggest? Libraries usually go with the title screen, from what I understand, and that's what the NA database does too FWIW.

@Bea_Iank: Thanks! I think I thought to myself "I'll beat this so someone else doesn't have to" -- it's the third time I've played through it -- but I didn't realize I was denying anyone a treat.

Actually, I don't mind the game, except when I enter a room and immediately get mobbed by enemies that proceed to drain my life bar completely...sigh. Do you know the secret of the red text? I got it as a kid and figured out the code, so it's always bewildered me when people claimed there was a bug that kept it from appearing.
  • I've beaten 3 more games on Action 52: Meong, Slashers, and Atmos Quake (got to the glitched stage 5).

I also got midway through the final stage of Operation Full Moon, but the game crashed. Is that normal? The only playthrough I could find on Youtube does the same thing.

Huh, I don't know, but both AdamL's list and this FAQ make it sound like it should send you back to Level 1. Maybe it's a ROM variant or emulator issue? The comments here also may shed some light on things.

EDIT: I just did a savestate playthrough of Operation Full Moon in Nestopia and made it to the end of Level 8, where the game crashed hard. My ROM -- which is from GoodNES -- also has the issue with Billy Bob where completing Level 2 takes you to Cheetahmen (as described in the comments to my last link).

EDIT #2: Aaaand I just did a legit playthrough as well, with the Level 8 crash, before I realized that I'd somehow totally misread your post (I don't know how, but I came away with the impression that your game had crashed in Level 3 -- I must be seeing things).

So anyway, it's doubly beaten now, and you should get full credit for Operation Full Moon since I think the crash happens at what would be the end of Level 8 anyway.

EDIT #3: Whoa, SuperElmoThePezGuy64 beat the entire Action 52 cart almost singlehandedly in 2010?
  • Ninja Assault from Action 52 is done. It really brings home what a massive, massive difference it makes when these games are deterministic, i.e. non-random -- they're actually playable, and even mildly amusing for the hour or so it takes to figure them out.

In the case of Ninja Assault, the only tricky part is a log jump section with completely counterintuitive controls. Otherwise the game is one of a handful on Action 52 that approach "licensed Famicom kusoge" levels of quality, in that there's actually a game there with some sense of level design and graphic design.

I also tried my hand at a few others:

    - "They Came..." is perfectly functional on my copy -- it doesn't crash at the end of Level 1 -- but by Level 6, it falls prey to the exact same issues with super-fast enemy motion and random spawning that makes "Storm Over the Desert" unplayable in later levels. OTOH it also spawns insane quantities of 1UPs, and you have a higher fire rate, so maybe it's doable; it'd be helpful to know exactly how many kills are required to clear Level 6, as I thought I got a bunch. When I gave up, it was out of tedium, not by losing.

    - "Beeps 'n' Blips" is clearly beatable, but gets very nasty around Level 4-5. WashYourFace's strategy of hugging the bottom and using B to strafe helps.

    - I think "Spread Fire" is beatable too. The trick is to maintain a very high fire rate, which keeps enemy sprites from spawning, and only let up for just long enough to allow one enemy to spawn at a time. I was able to get to Level 10 on my second attempt, and WashYourFace reached Level 12, so I think it's doable. The collision detection is maddening, though, and there's an invincible enemy that could ruin everything.
  • And now Megalonia from Action 52 is done. Pretty straightforward little shooter with an interesting gimmick -- every enemy you kill in the stage depletes the boss's health. Unfortunately your ship is slow, the music insanely repetitive, and the game itself is buggy, but it's still about as good as Action 52 seems to get in the shmup department.
  • I love these "Action 52" reviews, man. It's a fascinating NES title even though it sucks or because it sucks.

Hey, thanks! I'm glad to know they're appreciated.

And now Crazy Shuffle (from Action 52) is done. Bizarre overhead shooter set in a hedge maze, where the key to success is to find invincible enemies stuck in a fixed pattern, and shoot them until the level advances. It vaguely reminds me of a game I can't place, with similarly tiny characters and bullets...can't think of what it is, maybe something for the TI-99/4A.

  • Mendel Palace beaten:

  • It looks like my copy of PAL Rainbow Islands was just delivered at my condo.

Now I know what I will be doing all this weekend.
  • I got some new games and just beat Ghoul School. Was wondering if it was still unclaimed. Nice little game once you get the hang of it.

I also got Prince of Persia so ill be noodling with that.
  • Well, I just beat the main game in Sunday Funday. That counts for Menace Beach, right?

And it's nice to see you back, guitarzombie. You deserved to hit 200 points for all of your work this year. It's a milestone that few players reach on this thread.
  • Willow is done.

Hah well if y'all stop beating the games I owned!  Im avoiding emulators, cheapens the experiance for me.  Id rather people have the real copies of the game to play, so Flintstones can be a 9 pointer

I burnt out quick trying to churn out a lot, findin' myself playing worse at times just to finish quick.  I have a few games left that are on the list but their either ones so hard I dont wanna do again or i haven't beaten (like Cool World... yikes...)  I might pick up some more of the rarer games here and there so im not 100% done but dont expect too much of me
