Legend of Zelda Hang-tab Box?

Anyone know if a Legend of Zelda hang-tab box exists? I didn't see one in the Nintendo AGE database, but I figured it was worth asking anyway since there are LoZ 5 screws out there.

Comments

  • I've yet to see one personally, but always thought there might be one out there. The part that makes me think there isn't is that my earliest Zelda box doesn't have any codes on it and that could possibly be the first version.
  • I really wonder if the 5 screw LofZ I got outbid on a couple weeks ago for $95 or there abouts was a hang tab box or not? It was all original with baggie and everything and 5 screw cart... still can't believe I got outbid and it went that high on the damn thing.
  • Wow.... $95 for LoZ.
  • I'm 80% sure I've seen a LoZ box with the black Nintendo seal...let me look around a little bit.
  • I'll check as well -- I have at least 5 CIB variations, and I may even have a few 5 screw copies. Had I known it was worth that much, I would have kept a few that I had not too long ago.

It's only worth a bit to variant hunters...I'm sure what happened was Erik and whoever won the cart just stuck in some random number, figuring they'd win it for sure.  I knew someone who used to do that on ebay...if they really wanted something they would put in some stupidly high bid figuring that noone else would pay nearly as much for it.
  • Good point -- I've been on the crappy side of that one before, bidding way too much and ending up paying it.

  • Well from looking at it again I can now tell for sure that most likely isn't a hang tab box as it is silver seal with Red REV A on it. I have a couple of those boxes already. I also have a 3 screw cart with no code and the silver seal in the middle just like that 5 -screw cart. Must have been the variation immediately behind the 5 screw. Currently have 5 different CIB Zelda's (one of which is the grey one) so the 5-screw would be #6. Still can't believe that went so high! But then again look at all of that seller's auctions they all went for huge numbers!!

Wow, that's funny looking at it again I was leading for awhile and got hit by 4 different sniper bullets... geez... and not one of them came from Nick's gun...

That's what makes this even more puzzling -- it's not even the "first" release!

You guys all beat me to it - that 'rev a' is definitely not the first version. Dain, what's your earliest version look like? I have a non-rev-a grey seal but not sure how it compares to yours.

I love how you go out of your way to bring up the fact that I use snipes to win my auctions, or that I "stole" "your" boxed Chubby Cherub (which was never yours to begin with). This is like the 5th or 6th time you've publically mentioned one or the other after the incidents. I know your pissed, upset, whatever, but how old are you? 10? Why don't you let it go already?
  • I dunno I thought he was just pulling your leg by now, running gag? Maybe I misread?

    Ok, here's what I've got:

    Version 1:

    silver seal

    no rev-a on box front

    no codes on box flaps

    5 screw

    Version 2:

    silver seal

    rev-a on box front

    no codes on box flaps

    3 screw cart

    Version 3:

    white oval seal

    rev-a on box front

    codes on box flaps

    3 screw cart

    Version 4:

    white oval seal

    rev-a on box front

codes and * on box flaps

    3 screw cart

    Version 5:

    "Classic Series"

I know there are likely a few more, but those are the ones I have.

  • If anyone has an extra LoZ 5 screw that's in great shape, I'd love to make a trade for it.

There's a lady that sells NES loot at a local flea market near my apt that has a mint LoZ 5 screw CIB, but she won't sell me just the game, and she wants $50 for it too.

What happened to the good ol days when you could go to a pawn show or flea market and get a hell of a deal buying from ignorant vendors..? F***ing eBay.
  • well $50 for that is a deal since the last one at auction went for over $90...
  • LOL... well the one on eBay just went for about $95 with shipping so if I were you I would run to the flea market and buy me the $50 one. Just my opinion though. I know I'd pay $50 for a nice CIB 5 screw copy!
  • Yea, I remember the auction you are talking about Braveheart. I haven't seen NES games go for that much in a long time. Kind of ridiculous.

As for the LoZ at the flea market, the cart was in great shape, but the box, manual, and map looked like someone had used it for a frisbee.
  • Haha, thanks for clarifying. I was about to cry that there was a mint CIB out there for $50. My LoZ box is beat up and I'm in the market for a mint one. Can't have my favorite game living in the projects.

Cool image Sounds like my copy is like your version 1..

  • Just for the official record, that auction wasn't a hangtab box for sure. It says so right in the auction.

"Rad Racer, Excitebike, and the Zeldas are not hangtag boxes."

And yeah, all of those Ed Cogdill auctions went for insane prices. I hope he just had the mojo working and it wasn't a sign of things to come.

    Donkey Kong - $96.95

    Donkey Kong 3 - $56.00

It's like there's some secret eBay cabal that says that a black box DK game can't be sold for a good price, no matter how many of them are available. There are always 5+ CIB DK3s available in stores, but they're always $20 or more. I guess they must sell at that price.

Of course, now that I say that... I wish I had $40 I was able to spend on this Donkey Kong. This from Discount Games, who is selling the ultra common DK Classics for the same price. Oh well, better that someone here gets it if they need it.

Just remember that I did you a favor. image

  • As a seller, it's nearly impossible to keep anything with the Donkey Kong name on it in stock -- that series is still incredibly popular and sells for crazy prices.
  • I still need a DK Jr and DK Jr Math both CIB and they are both very hard to find period.
