SONY PVM to Genesis help needed! SCART/RGB woes..

I started a thread about a week ago elsewhere, but it turned into a debate on wether or now people needed PVMs or CRTs. Thats neither here nor there, as i just need help! (would liek to say i did recieve a few very helpful PMs.) So, i now have my new PVM, and what i THOUGHT to be all the (correct) cables i would need. I thought, simple plug and play would be the case, but its not been so. This is what im working with at the moment, and i dont know how to troubleshoot this or where in the world to go. The monitor only displays this reddish mess you see here, and the picture is scrolling and moving a million miles an hour in a million different directions. I am 99.9 % sure the monitor is in perfect working order, so somethings going haywire in my connections. Damn, i am confused as hell with all this SCART stuff! ughh.

  • The monitor is probably set to component. PVMs like this have shared RGB / component inputs, to the dismay of users who own both types of device.

I dont think (granted like i said i have no idea what im doing) that is the problem, because if you enhance the first picture, youll notice the only 2 lights active are a/rgb, and line rgb. in the top row.. a little hard to tell even with it enhcanced but those are the 2 that are active. when i switch it to b/component, or turn off line/rgb the screen just goes blank.

I remember there is a tricky way to switch from component to RGB. I'll check my monitor tonight and see what buttons should be active.

  • Heres a quick video i made before work of what's going on.

  • I have A/RGB, Line RGB and Ext Sync on

By the looks of your video you may be ok by hitting the Ext Sync button

Nothing changes when i have those 3 on. It will say RGB on the screen, but it will also pop up and say sync off. Could it be that the sync cord is not working? perhaps the male end coming from my genesis is busted? Like i said, its doing the exact same thing on both of my monitors, so im almost certain its not a monitor problem. ughh..

  • You sure you bought all your cables euro scart? One of the only pins that is the same between jp21 and euro scart is red. I am guessing that possibly your bnc adapter is wired jp21 or your Genesis cable.

I cant guarantee the male end coming from the genesis is euro. i purchased a new one that definitely is from retro-console on eBay, where it seems is THE place to get scart related cables, so heres to hoping thats the fix.

  • If you want to take shell off the scart connector and take some pics, it should be pretty easy to tell how its wired.

Boom. Thank you sir for the pointing of the right direction to me. My EuroScart came in today and problem solved! I had purchased a JapScart male end originally, so the 2 werent playing well! Now, we're rolling! Picture obviously doesnt do it justice, but im definitely extremely happy to be gaming on this beauty now. The difference really is wonderful.
