AV Modded Top Loader Sound Issue

I hope y'all will excuse my ignorance. I have an AV modded top loader, and I've noticed recently that the sound has tanked. I have to crank the TV volume super loud to hear the game audio. I use a CRT, but I'm pretty sure I've narrowed it down to the console itself. I have a bunch of other consoles routed through a switch box to the TV, and none of the other systems have this problem. I've only noticed this problem recently; is something wearing out in there? Anything I can do?

One more question. I have my Model 1 Genesis routed through the same box, but the sound is always wonky because of the lack of stereo sound. Any suggestions for this thing? Recommended cables to have the stereo sound, perhaps by hooking into the headphone jack?

Comments

  • NES, It could be faulty caps or loose connection with the AV mod?

Genesis, YEs using the headphone jack for true stereo is easy and cheap. Look for a 3.5mm to RCA female adapter. Under $5 on ebay I bet.

Even the SEGA CD required a loop-back cable from the headphone jack to get stereo sound from a Model 1 Genesis. I really wonder why SEGA didn't put stereo pins on the back or on the card edge connector for the SEGA CD.

Okay, I feel like a dumb-dumb. After further playing around with my setup, I think the second composite input on the TV itself is faulty somehow. I guess I'm just going to have to route all of my consoles through the back hookup instead of utilizing the front. Oh, well. Didn't cross my mind at first to think the TV could be the problem; the set is pretty flawless, otherwise.

That is weird, CZroe. Crazy Sega and their odd hookups.

It's not dumb.  I once spent 2 days trying to solve a Svideo mod "issue"

I later found out it was my svideo cable.  Shit happens

True enough. I appreciate the responses and suggestions, too, by the way. Honestly, I'm still a little confused about the input, ha; been tinkering tonight. I have several systems hooked up. The PS2 and NES were soft sound-wise, but the GameCube isn't. Go figure. I mean, it doesn't really matter, since the issue is solved. Just mysterious. And slightly annoying.
