Need suggestions

I am a teacher and I host a weekly gaming club with my highschool kids. They of course love smash and know all the old nintendo characters. SO.

I want to bring in an NES to our next meeting and give them as fun an experience with it as possible. What games work best for local multiplayer? which games could you possibly use with a 'tournament' format? And which games amongst those would have charachters the kids would recognize? What are some of the most fun group social events you can put on using popular NES games?

Comments

  • Tecmo Bowl, Bases Loaded and I think it was King of the Beach. These were some summer camp games that were awesome to play during lunch.
  • Nwc repro would be fun. Some others I can think of: sports games, eliminator boat duel, tengen tetris, Dr Mario (or other puzzle games), game show games(wheel of fortune, classic concentration, anticipation etc.) In terms of recognisable characters I'd say Dr Mario or yoshi
  • I guess what I am asking is how do I turn the most popular games on the system into tournaments/social events?

    Mario

    MTPO

    Megaman

    DuckHunt

    stuff like that.
  • Ice Hockey.....
  • I remember having competitive DKC races with my friend by calling him up on the phone and having a count-down before we'd start a level. Whoever finished first would say so. I don't think I ever lost and I got a lot of "No way!" responses from him. I taped it in case he demanded proof.

If you can bring in a second console perhaps you can set something like this up?
  • I think CZroe has the best idea for turning something Mario or Mega Man into a competitive game. You could even have people side with who they think will win.

In terms of two-player games, I don't think this is exactly what you're going for, but North and South is really fun to play with two people against each other.

    Yeeeeeeeessss!
  • Just remembered:

    Mario Bros (non-"Super" arcade port)

It's not nearly as good as the one included with SMB3, or the improved one accessible from SMB3 title screen in SM All*Stars, or the MUCH improved 4p one in the Super Mario Advance series, but it works.
