A.V. Famicom to replace my NES & Famicom

Hey folks, I currently play NES games on a frontloader and my FC games on a Famicom Twin. I'm looking to save room and they best way I can think to do this is purchase a AV Famicom and a FC to NES converter. Has anybody done this and currently happy about it?

Are there any faults with this?

Where can I get a good (and cheap) FC to NES converter?

  • This is currently my setup and I have been very happy with it no complaints. The av famicom is so much more reliable than the front loader.

The converter is like $30 and needs a slight modification to run castlevania 3 but everything else runs perfect.
  • Cool! Explain the Castlevania 3 problem.

  • the twin famicom is already AV and got the FDS so why you want to use av famicom and you stil can use FC to NES converter

AV Famicom has controllers that are interchangeble and longer. And it's not gigantic. The disc system is broken on the Twin Famicom which is fine because all the descent disc are ported elsewhere.

Although, the Twin Famicom is beautiful. I need to display it somewhere.

  • you can put nes controller on the twin famicom and your disc drive it need maybe just a new belt and its not gigantic atari 5200 or cdi are gigantic
  • I cannot confirm but I believe there are some NES games that won't work on a Famicom with converter. Cybernoid is one I've seen mentioned that doesn't work on Famicom due to a bug in its coding. It's not a huge loss, but don't expect 100% compatibility.
  • The Castlevania problem is that some of the pins on the converter were not mapped so you have to cut two of them and run some wire to make castlevania 3 work.

That is a diffrent mod to enable extra sound on a famicom to nes converter.  OP is asking about a 72 pin to 60 pin converter to play US games on a famicom.

Here is a useful thread on the subject.
