Ebay seller won't ship item unless I pay for shipping
Hey sorry if this is a topic alreadyexist, I would just like some help on this issue because I've never had it happen to me before. I bought a singer izek sewing machine this morning and paid right away. Now the seller refuses to ship unless I pay for shipping, which was supposed to be free, because they claim they will lose money. I'm attatching the email message I recieved from them. I'm just wondering what I need to do now. Thanks for your help!
Edit:
So the issue has been resolved. We have agreed on new terms and at most I will be paying $140 for my sewing machine. However the seller is now including a gameboy, so thats exciting and he will give me the difference in shipping from what I paid to what it actually cost. I'm still going to be recommending to the Hall of Shame because what he's done is still shitty and I don't want anyone to have to go through this shit with them.

Two opions I can see here are
1) Back out of sale and leave no feedback or negative feedback if feeling vindictive.
2) Do the scummy Ebay thing and pay the extra shipping then claim not as described and get a refund (borderling on the right/wrong).
At least they seem to have a marginally legit excuse.
My advice forget about it and move on, not worth the headache...
No much else can be done.
I'd pass and leave a negative. Another IZEK will pop up in the future.
Honestly this is more than likely what will happen, it's just frustrating to miss out on this because the seller didnt bother doing more research.
So the item sold for $100. The seller has no feedback as a seller. $100-45=55-13 for fees =42-60= -18. That's not a back breaking loss to eat, and avoid a negative on your first sale. In my opinion.
Agreed. I definitely ate some losses when I started selling on eaby, but it made sure I didn't do them again! These machines are stupidly heavy and having shipped one myself I can attest that the seller's estimate is not incorrect for shipping, but they should have known that. It's because of situations like this that I bought a scale and pack and weigh everything BEFORE I list it so that shipping can always be accurate and I don't get screwed.
Accept your refund and dont leave any feedback... People make mistakes forgive his mistake be a decent human being and move on.
I ate my losses when I miscalculated shipping when I started on eBay. It is the right thing to do in order to make the buyer happy.
No but seriously, this is bullshit. If he wasn't an asshole he'd eat the loss and have a happy customer. If i were you I'd leave a negative and not buy from him again
"Hello, I just want to inform you that what you are doing is against Ebay's policies. It is a sellers responsibility to properly quote shipping cost in the auction and the price it sells at is what is to be paid. Please send me the Item I paid for promptly as I will not be sending any additional money for shipping. Otherwise I have no other option to report you to ebay for this infraction of their policies."
I dont feel as if I was threatening at all in my message, well here is what he sent back
"It seems there has been a slight misunderstanding, I did not say I would withhold the item or take extra time to ship it,, Nor did I say anymore payment was required from you, your threats are not nessecary. I was merely asking you if you would be willing to be reasonable. I will ship your item, as described, on monday. I am sorry if you felt threatened , and thought you might be getting ripped off, and its a damn shame you had to resort to threats, nothing has been done that disturbs Ebay's policies, nor where there any plans to. Relax, you will get you item, asap. I will post a tracking # for you, as soon as I have one.
Thanks!"
So it looks like I might be getting my item but i'm not holding my breathe.
Atleast he sent a message explaining it all, some people would just not send at all.
I don't seem to agree with everyone else on this one.
You bought a sewing machine at half the going asking price. The seller probably used someone else's listing to help create their own, and forgot to uncheck the " free shipping " box. I've done it A few times. It sounds like a completely honest error.
I think there are plenty of times where negitive feedback on eBay is neseccary, this is not
One of those times.
In your situation, even though he has since recanted his original position, I still feel he took the wrong route and was panicking at the possibility of losing money.
I hope you get your item and that it all works out. I know that all human beings make mistakes. Based on the original message you received, I'd have asked for a refund and at best gave a neutral feedback.
I hope you get your item!
I would hope you never bought anything from me, and I would be careful opening that box.
sounds like the seller made an honest mistake but you are also entitled to get the item at the good price you bought it for. if there was good communication in this case maybe offer to split the difference. that is if you are intenet on getting this item. what does the sewing machine go for anyway ??
This.
My reply would have been more in line with asking him what method is showing $60 for shipping, as you should be able to FedEx ground that thing for under $25 just about anywhere.
I've sold things that I would have been better off throwing in the garbage can, but now I know what's worth selling online vs. selling locally, vs just chucking it.
I think you treated him pretty harshly. You got an extremely good deal from his mistake, then threatened him. You're the bad guy here. Everyone knows eBay won't do anything if he just cancels the auction as no longer available and lists it again properly.
I would hope you never bought anything from me, and I would be careful opening that box.
Ladies and gentlemen, the seller. ;0

You've got a point. I was just upset this morning waking up early to make sure I got it and paying right away to get a message a few hours later saying the sell couldnt go through because of a mistake in shipping cost, hindsight is 20/20 though

Anyone would be upset being told an item is no longer available due to a "mistake." If you feel bad about it, you can always send some $$ after you get the item.

It goes for about $100, I was so interested in this one because of the free shipping. I also bought the cart this morning to go with it, had I known the seller would of wanted shipping I would have just bought the one listed at $199 with the cart and gameboy. It would be about $10 over the value all these things put together would cost but atleast I would have known three were in working condition.
There has been numerous times I have underestimated shipping on eBay and here (to canada especially), but I would never in a million years send a message after the fact and ask for more money. That's the name of the game when it comes to buying low in real life and selling high online.
Do your homework, double check all your stuff or eat the mistake.
