Wow, $30 was a really nice price for that one! Everywhere I've looked I saw it going for $40+, so you did darn well even if it was still a hefty chunk of cash for a Game Boy Color game. It might be a couple weeks until I have the wiggle room in my budget to grab a copy of Burai Fighter Deluxe, since I just ordered complete in box copies of Beatmania GB and Dance Dance Revolution GB from Japan today, so if anyone else wants to give it a go in the meantime feel free. For now I've got a rhythm game itch that only some import games can scratch lol Oddly enough, these will be the first Japanese import games in Game Boy / Color collection. I've got a couple European imports already (SWIV and Gauntlet II), but these will be the first additions to my collection to come from Japan.
I didnt realize Metroid 2 hasn't been beat. I figured it was already, but im real close to it. Ill prob beat it later today. I also have Darkman, Capt America, Cool World and Turrican now so i'll prob be taking them on as well. Cool World i might not finish tho. Its different from the NES version but the NES version is BRUTAL.

I popped Cool World in and played it for about 2 minutes then promptly stopped lol. Such a weird game!
I mentioned early I had a problem with my copy of Bionic Commando: Elite Forces crashing. I bought another copy of the game and it crashes on me too! I did a little digging after that and found out that the game has a bug where it crashes upon starting the first level after loading from a save, and the problem only shows up when it is played on a GBA. There is a workaround though. Start a new game and suicide until Game Over, then load your game and it will work fine after that. Looks like I will have to do this every time I try playing, but at least I will be completing it at some point soon.

Haha that's unfortunate but good to know, so you now have 2 copies of this game?

Yep! My local store has had a copy for awhile. I ended up buying it and Adventure Island II for $8.

Oh man its SO much more enjoyable than the NES version. I wasn't sure what to do at first but I got the hang of it. Altho 3 lives = game over, same with Darkman... dunno how quickly ill beat these. Prob Cool World first before Darkman.

Before I get to Resident Evil: Gaiden I decided to do a couple shorter Game Boy Color games this week. The games I tackled were:
1942 (Game Boy Color)
I ended up playing three different versions of 1942 this week: The arcade original on my 60-in-1 Centipede multicade, the NES port, and the Game Boy Color port. Of the three the Game Boy Color version is definitely my favorite, since not only does it give you a password save every 4 levels (that can be printed off with the Game Boy Printer no less!) but it also lets you shut off that godforsaken noise that is supposed to be "music". As much as I love the gameplay in 1942, I have to admit that it does have without a doubt the worst music of any video game I have ever heard. The "music" in this game is literally listening to the same 10 second loop that sounds like someone on a heart rate monitor flatlining over and over, and over again. I'm not kidding either, that's exactly what it sounds like! In any case, I ended up playing through this one in little 10 to 15 minute chunks on smoke breaks and making frequent use of the password saves. My final score ended up being pretty low because when I finished the game up I was loading from a save on Stage 8, but I still had a lot of fun playing through it. Especially once I shut the music off! lol
Ms. Pac-Man: Special Color Edition (Game Boy Color)
I had a bit of a tough time figuring out what exactly constituted "beating" Ms. Pac-Man, since there was no high score board built into the game so I couldn't exactly go by highest score. What I finally decided on was that I would feel like I had beaten the game when I had played it to the point that the levels started looping, which was actually a heck of a lot harder than it sounds. It took me a good 4 hours of trying, but with enough time and effort I was able to get the point that I had beaten every level the game threw at me until the levels started looping; which happens to be on the 8th banana level. Here's a pic of that level and my final high score to go with it.
It took like 8-10 tried but I beat Cool World. I really liked it! Also i didnt realize you can always refill your health jumping between worlds so after I found that out it was much easier.
I thought I was done for today, but then I noticed that Centipede for the GBC hadn't been beaten yet. Being a huge Centipede fan (and I mean huge. I actually own a bartop Centipede multicade arcade machine) I just had to give this one a try, and I learned something pretty interesting in the process. What I learned is that in the GBC version of Centipede there is actually a fixed number of progressively more difficult levels, and the game loops back to level 01 if you can make it to and beat level 500! It took about an hour and a half, but eventually I got past level 500 and at that point—when I noticed on level 04 that the levels had looped back to the start and the game had reset the difficulty back to the starting difficulty—I decided to take some pics then call it quits. I had a good 6 or 7 lives in reserve (even though the screen only displays up to 3 lives at a time) and I knew I could probably keep going until I maxed out the score counter at 999,999, but my hands were starting to get a bit tired. So, after suiciding myself into the spider to burn my remaining lives I finished with a final score of 454,187. That'll do Centiepde, that'll do.

How does the grahpics/sound/gameplay compare to other ports? I saw a youtube video and there was a horrible static noise when shooting, (I hope that was just in the video and not the actual game). I just picked up Centipede for the 7800 and it seems to be a pretty arcade faithful port. Really need a trackball though.

Honestly? It's a pretty bad port lol I've never noticed any of the static noises you mentioned so I think that was just the YouTube video you saw or whatever software the person was using to capture video, but the real problem with the GBC port of Centipede is that it's just too darn easy! The gameplay is much slower than it is in any other port I've played and once you get a feel for it you probably won't have any problem playing it for hours on end without dying. I picked up my copy because I found it locally for $1 and thought it would be a neat addition to my Centipede game collection, but I really wouldn't recommend it as a way to get your Centipede fix on the go.
If you're looking for a good handheld version of Centipede I think you'll be much happier with the version on Atari Anniversary Advance for the Game Boy Advance. You won't get the same precision analog control that you'd get from playing a trackball, and the aspect ratio has been adjusted to fit the GBA screen, but otherwise it's a perfectly accurate port of the arcade version. Also, nice find on the Atari 7800 version! That's a fantastic port as well, and if you can track down a Wico Command Control Trackball to go with it you'll have a pretty authentic arcade experience at home. The 7800 port and the 2600/7800 trackballs dont offer true analog control (meaning that tgr trackballs just emulate a joystick) so you won't have quite the same level of fluid precision control as you would on an arcade cabinet, but it's still pretty close.
The most arcade authentic way to enjoy Centipede on a home console would be the PS1 port on Arcade's Greatest Hits: The Atari Collection 1 coupled with the Nyko Classic Trackball for the PS1, since that game supports true analog control and the Nyko trackball provides it, but the Atari 7800 version is still the second best option by far for home console play.
Nice going guys! At the moment I'm working on trying to beat Titus the Fox for the GBC, and getting my arse thoroughly handed to me. I knew it was a bad game going into it, but I never expected it to be this brutally difficult. It's like Gremlins 2 all over again! lol
I'm still enjoying it though, mainly for the adorable main character, so tomorrow I'm going to try backing the difficulty down from the Hard setting I was playing on to the default Easy setting and give it another try.
Titus the Fox for the Game Boy Color is done! In spite of the horrible reviews this game got it actually wasn't nearly as bad as I expected, and I had a lot of fun playing through it. I will admit that there was some pretty questionable level design choices here and there, with invisible ladders and tunnels necessary to find the exit that don't appear until you walk over them, but I never had to use a guide to find any of them and overall I thought it was a pretty enjoyable game. If I'm being completely honest a lot of that enjoyment was from the character aethetics and cute 8-bit pixel art peices between levels, but all furriness aside it was still a fairly decent platfomer and I might give the original Game Boy version a go at some point too. My only big complaint is that the instruction booklet said that the goal of the game was to rescue Titus's girlfriend, but based on the ending screen I'm pretty sure that Titus's girlfriend is actually his twin brother in drag. Whatever floats his boat I guess. XD
OK we are all up to date. Sorry it took so long, I've been pretty busy with work and worried about passing my certification test to be an english teacher. ( If i missed something or made a mistake please let me know)

Beat Metroid 2! Fun game but tricky. Started out not using a map and then decided to use it around the 4th 'level'.

EDIT.
I beat it on easy, where before I was playing on normal. But to get the 'real' ending it needs to be on challening.
Still love the great graphics and soundtracks from Sunsoft.
