You can mark a few down for me. This year I've completed... (of the ones unfinished...)
Azure Dreams
Looney Tunes (GBC)
Kid Icarus of Myths and Monsters
Revelations The Demon Slayer
Pokemon Silver
For what it's worth, I'm back into the GB scene, so if it comes to it I could take the thread back over for the long run. I know I haven't been reliable in the past, but that's because I kept changing my mind about GB. If the thread owner ever feels like giving it up, I can pick the thread back up again.
Hey again guys and gals! It's been a few months since my last contribution, since I think I got a little burned out on the Game Boy and decided to play some DS and Wii games for a while, but now I'm back to playing the good old gray brick and the shapely GBC once more; and I managed to polish off a few more games for the list over the last month as well.
Jack Nicklaus Golf (Game Boy)
A really surprisingly good game, and one that has gone on to beat out Mario Golf for the Game Boy Color and Mario Golf: Advance Tour for the GBA to become my new favorite handheld golf game. I'm utterly puzzled as to why this game never seems to come up on anyone's list of recommended Game Boy/Color games, because it's by far the most intricate, well designed, and full featured golf game on the original Game Boy and in many ways superior to Mario Golf for the Game Boy Color if you're not into the whole RPG story mode that the Mario games are focused on. There are four different 18 hole courses to play in Jack Nicklaus Golf, three of which are accurate pseudo-3D recreations of real life golf courses, and you have the option to play Stroke or Skins play against a large assortment of computer opponents of varying skill levels; playing against as many as 3 other opponents per game. The game gives you just the right amount of information necessary to estimate your shots, and everything about the game just seems way ahead of it's time. If you're into golf games and you own a Game Boy/Pocket/Color then definitely see if you can track down a copy of Jack Nicklaus Golf. I assure you that you won't be disappointed!
T2: The Arcade Game (Game Boy)
It's hard to believe that the infamous LJN could have made a game this good, let alone that a light gun game for the Game Boy could be worth playing, but I've been getting my light gun shooting fix on the go with T2 for a couple weeks now and have been enjoying it immensely. At this point I've beaten the game 3 times (the first time around getting the bad ending, and the second and third times getting the good ending by destroying all objects in the Cyberdyne labs level) and I'm sure that I'll go back and play through it many more times just because it's so darn fun and can be beaten in 20 minutes or so once you get the hang of it. The only complaint I could really make about T2: The Arcade Game for the Game Boy is that it really needs to be played on a Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, or a GameCube's Game Boy Player. On earlier monochrome hardware like the original Game Boy, Game Boy Pocket, and Super Game Boy the graphics are just too detailed to be able to clearly make out everything happening on the screen without having the enemies often blend into the background; but when played on a GBC, GBA, or Game Boy Player the enemies and your aiming reticle are all automatically colored a different color than the background so that you can clearly see what is going on and where everything is. It's still a darn tough game even with the visual enhancements of later hardware, but definitely one I'd recommend picking up for any Game Boy fan looking for a fun, unique, and well crafted shooting challenge.
Pong: The Next Level (Game Boy Color)
There's really not a whole lot to say about this one. It's the original Pong plus three other variations with stylized backgrounds, power-ups, and various field hazards to add some variety to the game. There are three different difficulty levels for playing against the computer plus link cable multiplayer support, but with just half an hour or so of practice I was able to beat the computer in tournament mode (which is all four Pong variations back to back) on the hardest setting. This game certainly wouldn't have been worth it's retail price when it was new, but if you happen to stumble on a loose cart for a couple dollars then I think you'll get your money's worth of fun out of it.
Aliens: Thanatos Encounter (Game Boy Color)
This week marked the 30th anniversary of the theatrical release of the movie Aliens, and since the Alien series is by far my all time favorite movie franchise I just had to play at least one Aliens game this week. I had actually started playing Thanatos Encounter twice before but never managed to get more than halfway through the game's 15 levels because, to be totally blunt, this game is refrickendiculously hard. Don't get me wrong, it's still an enjoyable and fairly well designed game, but as far as top down shooters go this one is right up there with the top down stages in Contra games like Operation C in terms of difficulty. Fortunately there is an Easy mode, which is what I ended up playing through Aliens: Thanatos Encounter on this time. There were still a few punishingly hard levels that took numerous tries to beat even on Easy, but I did make it through them eventually and never felt frustrated to the point of wanting to give up like I have during previous play through attempts on Normal difficulty. If you're a fan of both Aliens and the Game Boy Color then I think Thanatos Encounter is definitely worth checking out, since the designers really nailed the theme with everything from Pulse Rifles to Smart Guns, Flamethrowers, and Power Loaders at your disposal and a wide variety of nicely rendered Xenomorphs to aim them at; just be prepared for a serious challenge and a whole lot of time spent reentering passwords at the Continue screen to try again on the later levels.
Gremlins 2: The New Batch (Game Boy)
Gremlins 2 is, in short, four levels of platforming Hell. I suppose the first two levels actually aren't all that bad, but Stage 3 and Stage 4 are just nightmarish; and by "nightmarish" I mean the kind of stuff that Mega Man wakes up in a cold sweat dreaming about. I think the only reason that I actually like this game is because I used to own it and play it all the time as a kid, but back then I could never get back the third stage (with good reason). If you're a fan of the Gremlins movies and like exorbitantly difficult platformers then this could be one worth checking out, but for everyone else I'd recommend looking elsewhere for your Game Boy platforming fix. There are plenty of good platformers on the system that won't drive you to the brink of insanity and demand absolutely flawless perfection on the last level and final boss fight to beat, but suffice it to say this isn't one of them. I took a couple pictures of the ending for this one, because I wasn't sure that anyone would believe that I actually beat it without invoking the almighty power of the Game Genie if I didn't include pics. lol
At this point I've played literally every home console and handheld version of Paperboy ever made, and I think I can safely say that the Game Boy version is my second favorite. The NES version is my #1 favorite, since even though it isn't quite as accurate to the arcade version as some of the ports for Sega systems it still plays the best of all of them in my opinion. The graphics are clean and good looking, it's easy to make out the mailboxes and hazards and tell them apart from the background, the contols are fantastic, and the speed of the gameplay is just perfect for my taste. Lucky for me that the Game Boy port of Paperboy is just the NES version shrunken down! The screen has been cropped a bit to fit the Game Boy, but it still looks, sounds, and controls just as well as it's NES counterpart. If you like the NES version of Paperboy then the Game Boy port is definitely worth looking into finding a copy of.
Jurassic Park (Game Boy)
This is one of those games that used to drive me nuts a kid, because back then I could never get past the T-Rex fight at the end of the second level. I still thought it was a pretty cool game back then though, and since I've been on a licensed games kick lately I decided this morning that it was time to reedem myself for the failings of my youth and finally add Jurassic Park to my list of games beaten. It ended up being a much less difficult game than I remembered it being, though I will say that some of the platforming segments towards the end of level 5 did get pretty nerve wracking. Ultimately it took me about 3 hours time to beat this one, and when I finally got to the end of the last level I was completely out of continues and on my very last life with just a sliver of health left. All in all I'd say it was a good game that fans of the movie will likely enjoy, with a rockin' soundtrack and enough challenge and variety to the game's 6 levels to keep you entertained for the three hours or so it'll take to beat. Fun stuff!
Beat Double Dragon II on all three difficulty levels (though the game ends early on Easy).
Strangely, when I powered the system off and restarted during my playthrough on Hard, I still continued from where I'd just been. Does the original game have a battery, or is this an EverDrive oddity?
^Yeah, looks like NintenDarr got the credit for Shrek: Fairytale Freakdown instead of you.
Despite all the bumps and problems in this year's effort, we're getting very close to breaking last year's record (and the all-time record) for beating original Game Boy games. Cool!
Meanwhile I've been playing Kwirk and Megalit, though I'm not sure when I'll have them beaten, as both games get tough quick once you're done with Easy difficulty.
I'm not sure if I have anything to contribute, but during my hiatus I beat both Tetris and Legend of the River King. If either of them are still available, then you can scratch them off...knocked 'em off back in February.
I managed to beat Nintendo World Cup and Tale Spin today.
A combination of Gameboy fatigue and real life took me away from this for a while, but hopefully I can continue to contribute now. Well done on the efforts so far!
Shrek fairytale freakdown was beaten a long time ago by another member hence why you were not given credit sorry. Be sure to check the completed list so you do not play games that have already been beaten.

I'm always trying new things on Game Boy, and I've been plugging away at Wave Race. It's really good, but very strict about victory requirements. It's still going to be a while before I finish it completely, but I've made good progress. I'm currently on the 650cc in the World Tournament mode. The game has gotten pretty damn hard at this point, but I think I can do it. I've barely touched the slalom mode at all, so that will take a while too. Just wanted to mention I'm working on this one steadily, so it may be best to not start it up at this point.
Here's a little personal challenge for the thread. I've completed 60+ different Game Boy games, and one of the only ones I ever completely rage quit was a game called "Dead Heat Scramble". The last level is so impossibly bullshit that I quit the game never to return to it, and it actually made me take a 4 month break from trying any new Game Boy games. I challenge the thread to finish Dead Heat Scramble this year. >: )

I beat Dead Heat Scramble back in 2013. The last couple levels were pretty brutal, but it can be done if you get the right item drops and have a bit of luck.
That said, it's one of a very few games I think I more or less refuse to play again.
You know, I think I have to give up on Wave Race. I'm at the last set of races, (800cc World Circuit) and I don't see how it's even possible to beat. The opponents seem to have an excessive amount of Turbo compared to you, and they just speed ahead. I can't get first place on a single course in this mode, and I feel like I'm playing the game as well as I possibly can. The opponents are just straight up faster than you. It's ridiculously unfair, and totally unplayable. I welcome anyone to prove me wrong, but I feel that's going to be a lofty challenge.
For what it's worth, I became the national champ in both the Circuit and slalom modes, so in my book I feel I completed everything that can reasonably be expected. I wouldn't mark Wave Race as complete as there ARE ending credits if you win the world circuit on either Circuit mode or Slalom mode, though I haven't seen a single video of someone activating those credits via the circuit mode.
Anyhoo, just wanted to mention that Wave Race is available for people to complete. I simply can't do it. I got really close though.
Sorry to double post, but I'm super hyped about this!
I completed the World tournament courses in Wave Race!!
It's extremely hard, but the trick is learning where exactly to use your turbo on the courses, and to not screw anything up. The game's requirements for the end credits are extremely strict, but not impossible like I previously thought.
While the circuit mode is obviously the main mode, you also unlock the credits for completing the slalom mode. It's up to the OP at this point if they want to mark Wave Race as complete, but I''m going to be doing the Slalom mode anyways. Personally I feel like both modes should be completed to "finish" the game.
The slalom mode was a bazillion times easier, so I had little trouble with it. I'm really glad I played this game as it's a noteworthy piece of Nintendo franchise history, and is actually a really solid title. If you like Game Boy games, you might want to give this one a try since it's fairly significant to Game Boy's legacy. I looked up the two sequels on N64 and Game Cube, and I kind of wish I still had an N64 so I could play Wave Race 64. It looks awesome.
I'll most certainly play this game again at some point, though I have to get the non-stop engine whirring sounds out of my head first. It's like the Tetris problem where you close your eyes and see Tetris being played, only instead it's constant engine/lawnmower sounds. OH GAWD MAKE IT STOP! O_o
Also in the completion qualifications for this game, I'd definitely say both modes have to be finished. Slalom mode is so ridiculously easy in comparison to circuit mode that it takes very little extra time to do it too. Hopefully next year I can finally run the thread, and actually stick to it without life getting in the way. I've been working on a completion requirement list for Game Boy games as I progress through the library. I'll just throw it out there way ahead of time that at the end of the year, I'd love to run the thread again if it's okay with the current thread owner.
Bubble Ghost is a classic, and always a good time.
Gradius Interstellar assault is an awesome game too, though not as difficult as nemesis.
Hopefully we can get things kicking again, otherwise I might have to start up a new version of the thread. If it comes to that, I'll be glad to be back in charge. I've pretty much decided I'm sticking with game boy.
Whew! It took a bit longer than I remembered, but I finally polished off The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX! I'll just link to the ending picture instead of imbedding it in the post this time, since I don't want to spoil the ending for anyone who might not have played this wonderful game yet. It really is my all time favorite favorite Game Boy / Color game, though strangely I don't think I've ever gotten the "perfect ending" that you get for beating it without dying in all the dozens of times that I must have played through the game over the years. Anyway, picture! http://i.imgur.com/0Sc9Iye.jpg
WOOOOW! I finally finished Harry potter and the chamber of secrets on GBC!!! I played it on my psp so I could have a lighted screen that I could actually see.
I have gotten to the final battle twice before and given up. The RNG is just plainly ridiculous! first you cant use your powered up spell abilities you've been using the whole game, you get a sword and can only use that which has a fixed amount of damage. You can hit the boss and literally do 0 damage.
also at the end of the game you get cut off into one final area that only has enemy encounters and no shops or anything to buy potions and you can't go back at all, you are basically pigeon-holed to go face the Basilisk. I just ran around that area for about 2 or so hours to grind up enough XP and health to face the boss.
Anyways I absolutely love this game and feel so good that I finally beat it! The animations and graphics are pretty cool for the system and THE MUSIC, some of my favorite GB music ever. I recommend playing this game if your looking for a turnbased rpg that can be played through in about 5 hours if your just having fun. also hella cheap, you can probably find it for $1-5...
Also I'm working on kirby star stacker and want to try for Game and watch collection 2+3. How should I go about 'beating' them. I have played through most of kirby star stacker's line by line mode almost up to the hardest difficulty...
