Volgarr the Viking
Last weekend (not the one that just passed), my buddy brought over a Dreamcast homebrew called Volgarr the Viking (can be found here: http://volgarr.rkd.zone/), and I have to say, this is probably one of the best homebrews I've ever played.
The game is difficult, but in the fun way. The graphics are beautifully drawn/rendered, and the controls are solid. We played it for about an hour and managed to get through the first 2 stages, but we had issues trying to defeat the boss.
Has anyone ever played this? Is there any games similar to this on current gen systems? It feels like it should've been an arcade game in the 90's, and if it was, it certainly feels like it would be one of the best games in its genre. Anyway, let's show Volgarr, and the Dreamcast some love

I downloaded the game like two months ago. The iso has been sitting on my PC waiting for me to burn it to a disc.
I think you'll be pleasantly surprised when you finally get to it. I just downloaded it myself, but now I need some blank discs lol
Got this when it was free with the xbox games with gold program, pretty challenging!
Didn't know it was on XBL! I know what my next purchase will be

Thanks for sharing, it looks awesome and I follow DC homebrew but still never heard of this. Definitely going to give it a whirl.
You asked if there's any similar games on current gen systems. I guess the 2D Dragon's Crown on PS3/Vita is pretty close. The overall move left to right fighting hordes of enemies, collecting gold, etc. is not far off, other than better graphics. Similar to that is also Muramasa (Wii/Vita) and Odin Sphere (PS2).
It reminded me a lot of a NES game I loved back in the days called Trojan.

On the one hand, I think the game plays much more smoothly than Trojan (in terms of attack speed, jumping, and general responsiveness).
But on the other, it WOULD be nice for the shield to be a little more useful, as it is in Trojan. (with active blocking, rather than just a couple of passive hitpoints)

whoa for those of us that think this game looks awesome and are tech stupid (looks in mirror) am I reading this right I can burn it to a cd and play on my dreamcast?
There is a Dreamcast version of the game.
There is also a PC/Steam version of the game, that has really solid controller integration.
