Games with the Big price differences when they are CIB

I would like to know from some of the other members out there which games jump dramatically in price when they are CIB Games like SQOON, CHUBBY CHERUB, PRO SPORT HOCKEY.

Also games that might not be worth all that much but the box or manual is a bitch to find.  And which games do you think are undervalued given how hard they are to find?

Curious as to what people think.  Thanks

  • DK Math might top the list when looking at it as a percentage jump ($15 ish loose to $600+ MINT CIB)....
  • um. stadium events
  • yeah of course SE but I was thinking like the more common games with the harder to find manual and box. Jonebone thats exactly what im talking about.
  • Well the answer is anything that's an early release. Games that were late releases (like F2, Samson or even more "common" examples like Wayne's World) are going to be rare for the cart as well as the CIB. However, those boxes are more likely to be preserved because they probably were played very little (in comparison to original releases), and many people moved onto the SNES shortly thereafter (thus putting the game away with very little use).

However, early releases like Chubby Cherub, DK Math, Sqoon have to withstand the test of time. Many young kids had the NES then and threw away boxes without thinking twice. Furthermore, they are about 8-9 years older than the late releases which means they are even harder to find with a box.

DK Math is the most notable Black Box game, but I'd say that DK Jr., Clu Clu Land also jump quite significantly from cart-only to CIB...
  • All Black Boxes excepted Golf, Pinball, Hogan's alley, Baseball, Kung Fu, & Duck Hunt (Tennis is border line there) are worth much more CIB than cart only.
  • excellent I agree but Im putting a list together so please list titles. because NOT ALL early releases are very valueable even CIB. And Im looking for some of the ones you dont really think about.

Also read the second part of the post. Its not all about money here, also looking for the titles that are hard to find even if thay are not very valueable or in your opiniion undervalued.
  • Clu Clu Land

If are you sticking Hogan's Alley in there then you might as well put Gyromite in there too.
  • what about 10 yard fight in there too

  • dont forget excitebike

  • Yeah, I forgot about gyromite. 10 yard fight is worth a bunch more when in excellent condition.
  • And excitebike, I really checked a list of Black Boxes and forgot two of them, I'm an ass.
  • Well I'd also say that almost everything with a "pack-in" makes a significant jump from Cart Only to a COMPLETE CIB copy (Complete meaning more than just cart/man/box, it also must include map or whatever).

Here's the official to be complete thread:

    http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=5&threadid=527

Notable examples, all of my prices are just off hand estimates, give or take a little bit:

Arkanoid goes from $6-7ish loose to $70 CIB w/ Controller

Section Z goes from $4-$5 loose to $100ish CIB w/ MAP (Map is really rare)

    Miracle Piano (DUH)

Any 3D Game (Rad Racer, Orb-3D, 3D Worldrunner) jumps from a very common cart to a $20ish CIB when the glasses are included

    Etc...

No one's busting your chops, you should have just said "Such as" instead of saying "All except" image
  • no your doing great. I bought a real nice 10 yard fight for like $5 didnt think it was worth more than $10. Any you guys can think of that are not black box games like mybe Ninja Kid and M.U.S.C.L.E.?

  • I didn't want to mention M.U.S.C.L.E. and Ninja Kid because I still need CIBs of both and didn't want the NA effect to kick in for those games.

Yeah, they are worth much more CIB than loose, but no where near as expensive as Chubby and Sqoon. Those games go for $150 ish complete (or even $250-$300 Dead Mint sometimes), but you can get a MINT M.U.S.C.L.E. / Ninja Kid for $60 or less with some patience I'm sure.
  • Hey I heard that Win, Lose or Draw was super duper extra mega rare CIB... J/K guys..

Don't forget Stack-Up.. CIB it gets expensive...

The NA effect took its toll on both of those titles long ago.

  • I would say the megaman games.
  • We can say Megaman 1 & 5 for sure, 4 & 6 would be border line, but 2 and 3 looks regular to me.
  • Don't forget these 2.......

Alone $4 or $5 each but when they are CIB they are priceless........

  • I also think that a lot, but not all of hangtab games jump in value when they go from cart only. We've already mentioned the prime examples like Chubby Cherub and Sqoon, but there's there's lesser known ones as well. Take "Stinger" for example, it's a $4-$5 cart, but a CIB is $40-$50 I believe...
  • FFF Athletic World. Cart is worth about $5, minty CIB is worth about $500.
  • Stinger is one of them, two more that should be worth much more cib (But it's not always the case I think) are Rygar and Solomon's key in very good condition, even Mighty bomb jack should be worth more in my opinion. Any thoughts on this?
  • I"ve always thought as Rygar as a total common, although I value Solomon's Key and Mighty Bomb Jack as "uncommons" with a bit more value. I still need Bomb Jack CIB.

I got 3 Rygars CIB, 2 hang tabs and one non hangtab. One has the Poster insert as well. These games seem to be all over the place.

Btw, one of them will be for sale in a few days in my huge thread wink wink image
  • Sesame Street 123/ABC??
  • You're right about Rygar, now I think about it, this title is worth much more not cib, but sealed.
  • I think Rygar counts. I just sold a CIB one for 30. Loose is like what, $3? Definitely a jump in price.
  • Kid Icarus, Stinger, Bomberman II, Adventures In Numberland, Ninja Kid, Kid Niki (mint boxes are hard to find, they are often faded), FFF AW, Gun Nac, Dragon Fighter, Godzilla 2. Should be a good start for you.
  • One or two of the monsters for "Monster in my Pocket" are pretty stupid-expensive compared to just the cart, in order to make it truly "complete".
