Interesting picks. As much of a Final Fantasy fan I am, Dragon Quest should be in there first. And other RPGs before those two.
I feel like half the time they are adding classics and pioneers that truly deserve to be there, and the other half of the time they are adding fads just because they were/are popular.
I agree man it just seems like a popularity contest which all halls are....that is why I hate the Rock n Roll hall of fame but I won't even start on that.
Two games I don't care about but should definitely be in there: The Sims and Minecraft.
The Sims was really unique and a huge deal at the time. Minecraft was purchased by Microsoft because it's pretty much a billion dollar industry. We don't really care simply because I think about 99% of Minecraft fans are 15 and under.

I'm assuming they're picking six from this list of fifteen:
Elite
Final Fantasy
GTA III
John Madden Football
Legend of Zelda
Minecraft
Nurburgring
Oregon Trail
Pokemon Red and Green
Sid Meier's Civilization
The Sims
Sonic the Hedgehog
Space Invaders
Street Fighter II
Tomb Raider
Bolded my opinion on which six should be added to the hall of fame.
Other games were huge in some parts of the world (John Maden in USA, Elite in UK/Europe), but probably not so much in the rest of the world.
What are the exact criteria for this Hall of Fame?
Super Mario Bros. should be on there instead of Sonic. Not that it matters.
SMB is already in the HoF.

Alrighty. Never mind then.

If I'm picking 6 from that list:
Final Fantasy
Legend of Zelda
Street Fighter II
Oregon Trail
Sonic the Hedgehog
GTA III
Honorable mention to Madden.
Just realized I posted your exact picks. Should have just quoted this with "x2" lol

This years' inductees:
GTA III
Legend of Zelda
Oregon Trail
The Sims
Sonic the Hedgehog
Space Invaders
The first year:
Pong
Pac-Man
Tetris
Super Mario Bros.
Doom
World of Warcraft
Not bad. Though I dunno if I would consider The Sims a video game, it is more of a life simulator.
Then Oregon Trail would be a Manifest Destiny simulator, and GTA a crime simulator, and Pong a paddle ball simulator...
