Quick question about plastic hang tabs on the outside of sealed games?

You know how when you buy a sealed game, and half the time it comes with that plastic "D-style" hang tab. It's 2 inches wide and like 1 1/2 inches tall (or something like that). Who puts these hang tabs on? Is it the publisher or the retail store? How come only a percentage of sealed games have them? Also, a question to the sealed collectors - does the presence of this hang tab possibly diminish the value of the game?

  • Doesn't diminish the value at all. It used to be a decent checklist item to judge if a game was legit factory sealed. But not anymore.
  • I was wondering the same thing. Also, if anyone can also answer this, does the placement of that hang tab make any difference in value? I recently got a cheap Xenophobe and the hangtab was in the middle of the back of the box, so I just took it off carefully.
  • I work in a game store, and we put these on ourselves. I don't know if it's the same way across the board, but we definitely don't receive anything with them on.

We just put them on so we can hang them.

Didn't some of the games come with them on them? I know I have a couple cases of Gameboy Sealed games that already have plastic hang tabs on them
  • ya, i always thought the stores put them on. ive seen rolls of them unused laying around the k-mart electronics dept years ago left behind by careless employees.

Good thread you started there. I've been pretty half curious about this as well. ^_~
  • I believe they come on there right? My sealed WLOD has the hangtab, and i doubt dangevin put it on there. Had to have come out of the case w/ the hangtab on it right?
  • You can buy the hangtabs at craft stores. I usually shrink wrap my CIBs and hang them on my wall.
  • I believe almost all vintage Nintendo games (NES, SNES, GB) came with plastic hangtabs from the factory. The reason some are missing on some sealed games is because they come off pretty easily over time. I actually prefer them on mine because that is truly the way they came from the factory.
  • I have a six pack case of N64 games, and they all have plastic hangtabs from the factory.
