  • I was fortunate in that I never watched GoT until very recently. Pretty much got caught up as new episodes were coming out. It all seemed to work well for me. I didn't like that the battle with the undead ended so abruptly, but the real battle is going to be for the iron throne. I'm glad they left more than one episode to accomplish that. I'm pretty happy with how it's going overall.
  • I'm looking forward to the next episode. Thoughts and criticisms aside, I realize I've been invested for this long, I really want to know how it'll end (I realize it's still a couple more weeks to the finale, but I'm more than curious for what's next).
  • No doubt I'm still excited about the next episode.

I'm only upset because of the lost potential of the Night King and all of the interesting things they could have done with him in the final episodes. They can *probably* still pull a deus ex machina by either making Bran the true villain of the story, or pull a Flying Dutchman (There must always be a Night King, just as the Flying Dutchman must always has to have a Captain) and make the Night King reincarnate himself through Bran because of the mark on his hand. If he doesn't reincarnate then they *really* should at least tell the audience "the mark is gone" although I'm not really hopeful for any of that actually coming into play.

But I really believe that they're just going to rush through the storyline and try to make as many people as happy as possible in order to promote the continuation of the story with other spin-off series. So basically the story will be dictated by whether there are more fans of Red Wedding type scenes, or more fans of Bran & Rickon survive type scenes.
  • my body is ready.
  • Spoilers are out...and I managed to resist but I've seen some comments saying bad things like...

GoT Community: 8:3 was the worst episode of the series

Episode 8:4 - Hold my beer

    And

    "Well that sucks"

So it really looks like it's just gonna be a crappy ending between the three remaining soldiers that the north has (well, and EVERY damn main character) and a Megalomaniac and her pirate manservant.

    :/

I'm hoping that's not true. We'll find out in about an hour and 15 minutes from now I suppose.
  • Now that was game of thrones.

    i liked that episode.
  • Yep, I actually loved this one.

I guess I *can* be satisfied with it being a political drama instead of a zombie-fest. I still would have liked MORE from the night king but that's all water under the bridge now.

I find that hard to believe!

So Jamie is going back to Cersei? Is that what that exchange meant?

Battles are cool and all, but the character drama is what is my favorite part of the show.

Jaime probably just wants to kill the horny pirate and passion screw his sister after having a heart to heart.
  • Good episode.
  • Last season was weak. This season is turning into the same. Last week's 90 minute battle could have been a 30 min episode. The first 60 min of this week's 90 min episode was just filler crap. I can't even remember what the hell the first episode was even about.

Jesus, come on. Progress the fucking story already and stop fucking around.
  • Finally a reveal moment worthy of the series on the dragon kill.

This was the best episode of the year. Not saying much but yeah. Not bad.

    • 1 of 2 remaining dragons was killed, drastically weakening Daenerys's army.
    • The truth about Jon being the rightful heir to the Iron Throne has spread like nobody's business (despite Dany insisting he tell noone).
    • Varys has made it pretty clear that he has lost faith in Daenerys as Queen, and that he plans to DO something about it.
    • Cersei cut off Daenerys's most trusted advisor's head right in front of her, clearly angering her quite a bit.
    • Bronn has in his inaction closed the loop on the threat on Tyrion and Jaime's lives; no more looming threat of him suddenly sniping either of them.
    • Cersei made it look to Euron like she's preggers with his kid, further cementing any ferocity he is likely to bring upon her enemies (in his head he's basically King at this point)
    • Arya is on her way to King's Landing (to close some more eyes, methinks).

And I'm sure I'm probably forgetting a thing or two. And that's JUST THIS EPISODE. This is all important shit, son. Are you on a different channel than me?

Oh yeah! Sheesh, noooothing happening this episode! GAWL!

  • Cersei told Jaime that everyone would know this baby was his.  But she took Euron to bed to make him and everyone else think it's his child.  Jaime is going to be a little upset when he finds out.  Should be good.

the 1st 30 minutes of the epsiode was them burning the dead and celebrating the victory. yeah, that could all have been a 5 min scene.  yes, a lot happened but my gripe is the writing and story teling has sucked the past 2 seasons.  there is a night and day difference in quality between seasons 1-6 and seasons 7-8.  seasons 7-8 should have been 1 season.

they easily could have combined last week's episode with this week's episode, but they felt the need to do a 90 minute battle last week and then do a 30 minute celebration this week.  really?  give me a break.  the pacing has been horrible and the story telling is not as compelling as previous seasons. they definitely are pussy footing around and dragging their feet and im not happy about it.  it's like the writers are playing a game to see how long they can drag the conclusion of this story out for.

I think you read all the hate the show was getting online and misinterpreted it when looking for your opinion because i dont think moving too slowly has been a complaint.

after reading all youve had to say i still dont understand your argument. I dont think you know what you want. You obviously dont like the show currently but i dont think you coherently have expressed why.

this episode felt much more like game of thrones but sped up. I dont understand how anyone could possibly say nothing happened. Did you watch just the firstv30 minutes? Character drama interactions is 90 percent of GoTs. I cant possibly see how someone can like 6 seasons of this show but think nothing is happening now?  75 percent of most sll the seasons is slow build up.

stuff has progressed and happened. It might not be what you thought or wanted to happen, but to say a story hasnt progressed is ridiculous.

Not everyone is a seasoned critic who is able to articulate exactly what is wrong with the series and how to fix it. That doesn’t mean that they are wrong. Compare it with person going to the doctor because “something is not right” only to find out they have cancer.

Now episode 4 was an improvement over the first 3 but it is safe to say that he suffers from the hangover of 3 huge disappointing shows in a row. I’m sure that if he watches it again he will see it is not as bad as the first 3 episodes. Still as a season it is a disappointment so far AND this the final season.

  • I liked this episode a lot but I feel like the fact that it's a short season (even with the longer episodes) and it's beyond the writing of the book is becoming more and more apparent. I disagree with the person that says there's too much fluff; I feel like there is too much stuff that still needs to be answered/addresses and they're trying to cram into what little time they have left. The pacing just felt really off and some of the writing choices seemed a bit baffling (having Euron's fleet basically destroy all of Dany's ships and then not going in to destroy the defenseless remnants on the shore and only capturing the girl instead, Drogon flying head first at the fleet and not shooting fire, and not dying despite being that close to all of them when the other dragon got picked off immediately from much further away, Tyrion walking up to Cersei and trying to plead with her while she is surrounded by archers and actually walking away from the encounter despite her paying someone to murder him in the previous episode...)

Like I love all of the scenes themselves, they're all really cool and exciting/heartbreaking/etc. But then sometimes the odd sequencing of events takes me out of the experience a bit. I know we've been dealing with the fast travel stuff for a couple seasons now, but it just feels very odd when we get a nice slowburn in some parts like the dining hall scenes after the battle and then the second half of the episode seems to be a supercut of events that are really important to the story. The journey to/arrival at King's Landing almost felt tacked on. I think it would have benefited from being its own longer episode with the Long Night post-battle scenes being a separate (normal length) episode.

Highlights of the episode for me were the surprise attack on the dragon, Arya rejecting Gendry, Missandei getting the chop, Arya and the Hound, Sansa giving Theon the pin, and Varys and Tyrion debating the best way to go forward with Jon.
  • Some really good chatter here on 0804, I also agree ZBomber there feels to be too much left to address in just 2 episodes, but they are closing out pieces nicely.

    Some additions...

    - Tormund went back North with the remaining Wildings and Ghost - poor Ghost got straight shafted by Jon, WTF was that all about. Some say that since he is not the Bastard Stark anymore, he might be showing transition into a possible heir to the throne.

    - Sam and Gilly - did they leave too?

    - Putting to rest all these people we've been following for years, only giving 5 minutes for that entire scene would not be proper justice.

    - CleganeBowl 2019 - the countdown is on

    - Funny that Arya and Hound are back together on a travel

    - Jamie was a douche to Brienne on purpose, likely so she wouldn't go after him. She sure seemed like a sick love puppy after a night of romance lol...it's pretty clear he's going to finish Cersei off without formally stating it.

    - Sansa is up to something - for sure, what is it?

    - I have to agree with the pacing to an extent, the flash forward with Dany standing at the doors of KL was kind of odd, and the whole Hands convo was weak sauce. I also am confused knowing how psycho Cersei is, that she just let that "small" group of people stand there - the war could have nearly been won by decimating Dany and Crew.

    - Euron might turn on Cersei - just a hunch. Tyrion voiced her pregnancy in front of everyone...how could he have known if was "Eurons"? I think this implies a notion that he may find out it's Jaimes and snap

I think the folks that are complaining simply might not be that much into the show. There is SO MUCH going on in every scene that it's like us watching a final puzzle being put together. To complain that ABC could have been covered in 1 season or a number of minutes...you do know how incredibly profitable this show is for HBO...if you were getting paid you'd stretch it out too

I agree with just about everything said here. The only thing is, Cersi knows that if she would have slaughtered everyone at the gate when it was clearly an attempt to talk, the people would surely turn on her and it would become a Mad King situation again. So her crazy is actually a very smart crazy lol. Same reason she didnt kill Tyrion there. She killed Missandei for the message to leave because they were threatening the throne and she was a prisoner of war (as the people i think would see it).

Brienne was WAAAY too happy the last few episodes. One thing this show hates is happy characters. Only Hot Pie has a happy ending in this show, everyone else will suffer a Pyrrhic victory or simply die.

From Cersei's/the people's perspective, this is a foreign ruler coming to usurp their Queen. The people in KL don't have all the information we do, and they also probably don't care too much if Dany/Jon is a more deserving ruler or not, they just see her as a foreigner and usuper and it's been mentioned several times in the show that getting the loyalty of the people would be extremely difficult. Tyrion literally killed their father, was framed with killing King Joffery, and was actively working with a foreign power to take the city, committing treason. Not to mention that Cersei hates him more than she hates anyone else. Killing him wouldn't have reflected any more poorly on her than anything else she has done in the show and gotten away with, and defintely wouldn't cause an uprising since Tyrion was not well liked by the commoners anyway.

The whores liked him well enough.
