Tyrion -> You are right. I have said too much.

Grey Worm -> I said shut up dwarf !

Tyrion -> How about if we let my friends decide who should be king to decide these things?

Grey Worm -> ok good idea.

Tyrion -> I think Bran should be king.

Grey Worm -> ok that sounds like a good idea. Brother of Jon Snow and friend of Tyrion is as good as anyone.

Bran -> I will be king and Tyrion will be the hand of the king.

Grey Worm -> hey wait a minute here.

Bran -> No No seriously this is perfect he doesn't really want to be hand. This is punishment.

Grey Worm -> ok well if you say so but Jon Snow will die for killing our queen.

Bran -> No we will send him to the Night Watch. The ice wall that was destroyed has been rebuilt overnight and we need him there to make sure that um. No reason really.

Grey Worm -> Fine. I'll go back to my army that was wiped out during the battle of Winterfell and has since been reborn.

    Hahaha. You got a point.

    I unfortunately agree.

I was enjoying this season enough, at least seemingly more than most here. I could recognize the bad writing, but I was still enjoying the episodes. Episode 1 was pretty underwhelming but passable, Episode 2 was amazing, The Long Night had its flaws (plot armor for characters) but I was still on the edge of my seat the entire time, Episode 4 was ok but some of the logistic parts of the show were really starting to bug me (Euron shooting a dragon out of the sky and not completely destroying Dany's forces after they were shipwrecked and defenseless, the meeting with Cersei and she didn't try to kill anyone but Dany's aide even though she could have easily killed, etc). The Bells had some really bad pacing but I still liked the turns it took and it was visually pleasing.

But then Episode 6... what the hell happened? I didn't go in with super high expectations but I at least expected to be entertained. I was not. I think it may very well be one of the worst finales I have seen. Dexter might be worse, but at least with Dexter I had given up on the show long before the finale. This was just a disappointing end to one of my favorite shows on TV ever.

There was just so much wrong with it that I don't even know where to begin. So, Jon is a Targaryean, but then that didn't really factor in to anything. Dany's speech to her army was so weird because it didn't line up with the events of the show at all. I know a lot of people were upset with her sudden turn, but I wasn't because I figured it'd be expanded on/explained in the finale. But that didn't really happen. She just acted like she was still saving everyone despite literally just murdering a million people, and then acted shocked and offended when people were like "uh, you just burned a bunch of children why the fuck are you saying you're liberating people?".

It seemed like the white horse that saved Arya at the end of episode 5 was Bran warging a horse. Given how little he has interfered in basically anything despite his powers, it made it seem like she would have some purpose and wasn't going to die yet. But then in this episode she isn't on the horse, she's still on foot and in King's Landing, and she literally has no bearing on the plot other than saying "I know a killer when I see one" (thanks Arya, literally everyone just saw her killing people). If that wasn't Bran controlling the horse, then what and why? And what was the whole plot point of Arya being able to change faces if she never uses it after killing Walder Frey? In retrospect it just feels so weird that she kills the Night King. Her whole thing was she had a list of people that wronged her family, and the past two seasons it gets mentioned but nothing is done after Walder Frey in the Season 7 Opener. Then she just suddenly has a change of heart I guess because The Hound was going to go kill his brother and tells her looking for revenge all the time isn't exactly the healthiest thing.

Drogon? Honestly I was getting pumped for the first time the whole episode when he was staring down Jon and expecting an epic dragon fight, only for him to turn his head and burn the Iron Throne for some reason. Like Jon didn't want the Iron Throne, so what was the point of that? I get the symbolism, but it just felt so weird. Honestly, it feels like the show kind of succumbed to keeping fan favorite characters alive once it outpaced the books, to the detriment of the show. Tyrion has been a prisoner and sentenced to death like 3 times and has survived every single time. There is no way that Jon would still be alive if Grey Worm wanted him dead. He served the Queen only, and since Jon just killed the Queen, it would only make sense he would kill him.

I am now officially worried for the new Star Wars trilogy lol.

EDIT: My episode rankings (out of 10)

    Ep 1 Winterfell: 7.0

Ep 2 A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: 9.2

Ep 3 The Long Night: 8.5

Ep 4 The Last of the Starks: 6.5

    Ep 5 The Bells: 8.0

Ep 6 The Iron Throne: 3.5

On top of not having the original blueprints (books) I think the writers had 2 things that became more important than a solid storyline and good writing.

1 They changed the writing and just about every major storyline because fans had guessed at them. Becoming unpredictable overcame everything else including good writing.

    2. They were worried about after the show. Keeping popular characters alive who might be agreeable to future contracts.

Emilia Clarke once stated that she was done with the series and would not revisit it in any way = Overnight Disposable.
  • I want to know if the books can stick the landing. I feel they had to cut way to much for the show. I also feel that is why early on everyone loved the show because they stayed true to the books.

    Also no lady stoneheart= lame

When did i say they were great?

i said im tired of the hyperbole language, and incorrect nitpicking. Seen a bunch of comments about the wall being “rebuilt”. They were at castle black. Wall came down at eastwatch. If you are going to nitpick atleast be accurate.

didnt you say after episode 4 that they needed to “move along on tge story already.” Made no sense then and still makes no sense.

you should have loved this season then because all they did was push the story quickly.

  • I still think best thing to do is go back and watch the whole thing all over. We just spent 2 years waiting on what we hoped to be the best season of television in history.

As I say, we could probably nitpick the whole show from season 8 all the way back to episode 1.

Remember the truck in that one episode? Starbucks cup is funny but a truck?

    LMAO!

  • ZBomber has some dope points. Here is my breakdown from another convo:

I am left unsatisfied with Season 8 after the Night King went down. It felt rushed and dare-I-say sloppy with the closure of so many paths we've been led down.

Overall though, still happy I watched and pleased with the show but may find a re-watch a bit harder to do. Great actors, amazing visuals, would still walk away with an 8/10 stamp.

    Not feeling good about:

    1. "Aegon Targaryen"
  • This episode was stupid when you break it down, but I guess my expectations had been battered enough that I didn't mind it as much as some of the previous episodes. I wasn't expecting much and I got a little better than what I expected.
  • I still need more time....

I'm trying to rationalize it to being painted as a GOOD ending because I can see it, but I just don't think it was executed well enough.
  • so the character with no character or ambition (remember, he said he "didn't want" at a fireside chat with Tyrion in the celebration after the NK battle) says he doesn't want to be king but then says all of this happened so he could be king? Hail King Bland... err Bran!

I was just talking with a coworker about this exactly.

Bran - "I don't want to be King"

Everyone Else - "Well they why the f**k did you let Dany murder 1000's of innocents?!?!?!"

yup - such a messy rush to the finish line.  Bran makes sense - he has a foot in both worlds (or plot mechanics) - he's magical and he's royality (magic + palace intrigue = GOT) but the way they got there is just a disaster. and ya dont care. and Bran doesn't care- you can't end on weird apathy.

And it's all decided from a 2 minute speech and then, let's not forget, sansa's just like -yeah, we're out- and no one fights her on it?
  • Water bottles!

I thought the ending could have been better, but still not as bad as the internet makes it out to be.

Would have liked to see Arya kill Dany, thought it would have been cooler if she stole Grey Worms face and did it or something.

That woulda been amazing just for internet to go nuts about her doing "black face".
  • So who's going to clean up all those bricks?

Peasants. Really Dany was thinking ahead - solving starvation Thanos style and then making jobs by giving the remaining people a castle to rebuild.

Out of curiosity how long have you been watching week to week?

I ask because a good friend of mine just binge watched the whole show up until the final 3 episodes, then watched it week to week.  He thought it was great but had a very basic understanding of all the storylines and really wasn't emotionally invested.  His feelings of the finale are drastically different than mine and I think I've simply invested exponentially more time enjoying and analyzing different components.

Your point about the faces is a good one, there's an example that really bothered me - we basically didn't get to see any twists with Arya using someone elses face for 2 seasons.  They even made it a point for Sansa to find her bag of faces and everything.  Yes, they did that for the Littlefinger bit last season, but that's a huge variable in the show that just got scrapped completely when it mattered the most.

  • A few of my thoughts, put together as well as season 8 was. I think they could've spent a whole season on the night king and another season on wrapping up the iron throne. Or at a very minimum made this one a full season instead of six episodes so everything was not as rushed, there was a lot of disappointment with this. As far as the last episode, I think it was one of the better ones of this season, they did a good job putting everyone where they ended. Our characters that we invested in got what they wanted in the end. Sansa became a queen, Arya is being a free spirit, and Jon never wanted the iron throne anyway. Jon belongs in the north, and who knows maybe he will become king of the free folk. They can all live now with no expectations and restrictions. I do agree with how the writers arrived to this point as being sloppy, but you know, sometimes things are out of our control and we just have to watch it unfold. I thought a trial by combat would've been a nice scene between Jon and Greyworm. I think some people not happy with how Dany was acting after they took King's Landing is hard to understand. She became psychotic and delusional, there is not really any more explaining needed, as she went "mad". Drogon burned the throne because he knew it drove Dany to insanity. As we can probably all agree there was much bad writing and the story could've went on exceptionally for many more seasons, had all parties been on board. It has been a very entertaining journey and I feel they closed out the characters well. I'm glad roller coasters aren't graded the same as tv shows.
  • Everyone already made points of my thoughts but!

I thought Drogon will fly to Night Watch Wall and be with John?

Also, where did John go? I thought he was suppose to say at the wall and welcome newcomers as they come?
  • In the end I was disappointed (i had to put this word into google I forgot if it had two "s" or one and as soon as i did, GOT links came up, thats funny!) of the ending show but oh well

You keep bringing this up so I’ll explain it to you.

There were many things that needed to happen in the final season for a successful ending. Instead of finishing stories that they started and worked on for the previous 7 seasons they wasted time.

Most ends were left loose or forgotten.

Yes they needed to move fast as there was only 1 season left but they needed to move towards wrapping up loose ends many of which they never did.

Weekly since season six, but own all seasons on DVD (watched first five over 1-2 years).

I dont get that emotionally invested in shows though, just use them for entertainment then move on.

  • I haven't seen this season of GOT yet, but I have seen all the rest. My feelings are largely the same as most people, the show has gotten worse from roughly season 5 onwards for the seasons I have seen. After all the reactions here and elsewhere, I'm in no rush to see this one.

BUT, here's a question: is there a show where the final season IS the best one? I've been racking my brains to think of all the great (and even not great) shows, and I CANNOT think of a single show where the final season is the best... Anyone have any?

    Yup

  • I really like the final season of breaking bad. Actually, I think that show as a whole is possibly my favourite of all time. But, personally my favourite season is the 4th. I can see how people would like the last one too, of course, but for me the real climax of the show comes in the last episode of season 4. Ends with a real BANG, lol!
