How to Display Boxed NES Collection?

I'm about to display my NES boxed games, they've been sitting for years in storage and now I'm kind of concerned about how to show them as it seems some of these have appreciated quite a bit since when I picked them for a couple bucks each at flea markets way back when.

Anyway, I've seen plastic boxes and baggies available, just curious what others are doing out there?  I'd rather not bag or box every game as there are quite a bit of them and I just don't like the idea.  They're going on a large bookcase I had custom made and should see really any exposure to direct sunlight.

Just trying to get some input here.  I was thinking about maybe bagging/boxing some of the more desirable ones.

Any thoughts? If I go the box/bag route, is there any product better than the other?

  • If you want to go baggie, use the comic book sleeves, they are cheap and are acid free so they will not damage the boxes.
  • my personal favorite are justabum's box protectors.. i love how it protects the games and makes them easy (no rubbing to other games) to pull out and re-order etc
  • Hrmmm.. if any are MINT black box games.. the best way to display them would be.. Send them to my addy (I can PM you if needed), and then direct anyone who is interested in viewing them to my Photobucket album.
  • ^Hilarious. No really, though, the box protectors that are sold in our Buy/Sell/Trade forum are about as good as it gets. They're inexpensive, too.
  • I have a hobby display case I bought at a yard sale for $20, the lady used to display her shot glass collection in it.

  • This is the method to my madness:

I use clear acid-free boxes (sold buy justabum on here) to protect MINT games, Popular games (like Mega Mans 1-6), or any "rare" titles that I have. These games are stored at the top of my bookcase. Everything else is stored on the bottom shelves unprotected so I know that they can be upgraded. These boxes sometime "graduate" to the top shelf when a better replacement comes in that is worthy of being protected.

I also don't see the point in alphabetizing my entire collection yet because I know it'll have to be moved when I buy a house in the not too distant future. I'll worry about that and get custom shelving made then...
  • If you search around the forum, there are a bunch of threads on shelf building. Sparky made some pretty nice ones for his carts. The pic of his complete SNES collection will show you what I am talking about. He is also pretty helpful in "I'm a dumbass, what do I do with the screws?" type questions.
