Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (PS4) is gorgeous!! (1920x1080 photos inside)

I have to admit this is one of the most gorgeous games I've played in all my years of gaming. Naughty Dog set the bar very high with this one!

The art style is incredible and the details are amazing. I've only played about 3 hours worth and I can't stop taking in game photos.

If anyone is playing and snapped some pictures I've love to see them. Just please try to keep them spoiler free as not to ruin the experience for others who haven't played it yet.

Here are a few that I've done:

A few tips for successful photos...

1. Turn off the Photo Notification bubbles in the PS4 settings. This will keep you from getting the annoying camera icon notification in your shots. This was just added with the latest FW.

2. Switch the file format to uncompressed PNG instead of lossy JPG in the PS4 System Settings. The files will be larger, but more beautiful.

3. Take screen shots using the built-in Photo Mode. Turn this on in the Uncharted 4 settings.

4. Get familiar with the different filters, zooms, tilts, and especially the Depth of Field (DOF) slider. This will help you draw focus to certain objects. Start by upping the intensity of the effect initially (R1), setting the exact distance you want and then gradually rolling back the intensity (L1) until you hit the perfect level. You can also hide characters if you just want the landscape.

HOW TO GET THE PHOTOS FROM YOUR PS4 TO HERE.... in order of best to worst quality:

1. Copy them from the PS4 to a USB Stick, then copy to a PC.

2. Using a second PS4 account, or a good friend, send a PSN Message to that account and insert the photo. Then using the official PlayStation App (Android/iOS) download the photo.

3. Share to a Facebook or Twitter account, then link or download.

  • The environment and design in this game is Freaking outstanding. Nice to see naughty dog go all out on the last entry in the series. I can't wait to get deeper into the game (just started chapter 2)
  • This game is the most cinematic game experience of all time by a massive, massive margin. If anyone plays modern games and doesn't play this one, I have no idea what you're thinking. This is JAW-DROPPING. I've never seen a jaw-dropping video game before, ever, and this one has me picking it up off the floor with every scene.
  • I've clearly been under a rock for the last 10 years. What the shit, those graphics are incredible!
  • I've been exhausted all week so I've only gotten to play for about an hour and a half so far, but the game is absolutely beautiful. It just seems like Naughty Dog can't make a bad game.
  • I am going to borrow it from a friend once they are done with it.....I don't really care for the series but want to play it for sure.

Hehe. Yeah, they really are incredible.

There are so many details you notice when playing it too. They squint when the sun hits their eyes. All of the hair is physics based and sways with the wind... even the chest hair.  Even with all of the technical marvels the story, character dialogue, and voice acting never takes a back seat to the graphics. If this isn't GOTY then I'd be very surprised.

    Even the kitchen looks fantastic.

  • I took two pictures while playing today:

I'm having lots of fun with this game.

Sometimes I notice that I'm smilling while I'm playing because it's just so fun to play.

Awesome! Nice pics. That is some beautiful dirt.

I think I'm about to start that level.

I love how they are including Photo Modes in a lot of new games now.

Also, for anyone who cares, you can set the default image quality to "uncompressed PNG" in the PS4 system settings. It increases the file size, but there is no jpg artifacting.

I do that and then copy the pics to a memory stick for the best results.

Here's a video of Nate bumping into crap.

  • I love the detail in this game! It looks so good!

Nice! The trees and other vegitation looks awesome in this game. Very realistic and organic.

Have you tried using the built-in PS4 photo snapping?

I highly recommend changing the default settings to a quick press of the Share Button to take snapshots & a double tap to start recording video.

Then, in order of best to worst results, you can either

    1. Copy them to a USB Stick, then a PC.

    2. Using a second PS4 account, or a good friend, send a PSN Message to that account and insert the photo. Then using the official PlayStation App (Android/iOS) download the photo.

    3. Share to a Facebook or Twitter account, then link or download.

I love the way skin glows from the sunlight. The use of ambient occlusion makes it look like the skin is absorbing the light and reflecting it back.

  • The Video Game Critic gave Uncharted 2 an A+. So I guess this series is good. I've never played them.

It looks like game graphics are becoming on par with CGI animated movies.
  • It's a gorgeous game as far as consoles go. I'd love to see it in 1440p on my PC.

I dunno what's what wrong with me, though. I loved this series, though I found 3 to be a little overhyped. I'm a huge fan of Naughty Dog and they're the main reason I bought a PS4 instead of just sticking with my PC and Wii U. But I'm just not having a blast with the game. It's fun in parts, but it just feels like more of the same. I see they tried to make it a little less linear, but it doesn't really add to the game. I don't need a ton of open space just to maybe find a little trinket that does nothing for me. I'm about halfway through. I dunno if it's just my current mood or if the game really is kind of old hat by now.

Sorry to hear that man. Perhaps you just need a break from it. I was starting to feel that way about most games back when the PS3 first came out. Nothing was much fun and I was burned out on it.

I am really enjoying Uncharted 4 more than 3. The dynamic between Nathan (Nolan North) and his brother (Troy Baker) is great. It's exceptional story telling and well acted.

Ratchet & Clank is also a lot of fun and looks incredible to boot. This generation os gaming is starting to make up for it's slow start.

These 3 shots are real-time graphics. No pre-rendered CGI here, though it could certainly pass for it.

  • I'm on chapter 17 now and I did not expect to have so much fun with this.

    It's a lot better than 3.

    Well, here is another picture:

  • ND are freaking timelords. I swear they are 5 years ahead of their time when it comes to graphics.

So hyped to play this game. Looking forward to checking it out.

  • Off topic a bit, anyone here have the Drake Collection as I am debating on picking it up to go with 4. I have played and completed them on ps3 back in the day but I don't own them anymore so figured I'd get the newer one, but is it worth it or should I scour up the original ps3 ones and call it a day?

Yes, definitely worth it! You should be able to find it new for around $30, and at $10 per Uncharted game, that's a bargain IMO.

It's not simply a 1080p/60fps update, but they also tweak hundreds of things with controls, aiming, grenade equipping and throwing, and much more.

They substantially improved the textures & lighting, and in many cases have switched to using the same higher quality textures from the cutscenes during actual gameplay. The biggest improvements were made to Uncharted 1 since it didn't age as well as the other two.

There are more details on the improvements here:

  • I've put all of my Uncharted 4 pics online in one spot here. (Now up to 176 photos)

I'm still not finished with the game and it has only gotten more impressive and fun. Should be GOTY for sure.

    latest pics to post:

  • My goal is to try and finish this today.
  • I finished it last week and honestly, while it was fun in places, it didn't do much to impress me beyond the visuals and production. And this is coming from someone who was always a big fan of the series. I LOVED the first two games, the third was where it started to fall off for me. I even had fun with the Vita game.

I just got tired of the climbing segments and a lot of areas just felt like boring shooting galleries. And I hated Sam. Such a selfish character.

It wasn't bad, but it was definitely flawed. It felt like they rushed it to get it out, which is crazy, given the delays it got.
  • One last "Booty Bump" for anyone else wanting to post some of their U4 pics here.
