Box variant collectors other than hangtabs?

I know there's a lot of variant collectors on this board, so I'm wondering if all of the seal variants are known for certain games.  The hangtab vs. non-hangtab versions are simple, but I like to collect the seal variants as well for certain popular games.  I don't really care about Rev-A vs non Rev-A stuff though unless the seal is different.  Any idea which seal is rare in general or which was first?

Note - I don't actively hunt for seal variants, but when I get them as part of a lot unknowingly, I keep them.  Notice the different box color on the first Mega Man.

So in this example, I wouldn't save the Tiger-Heli because it is not a popular game and is only a Rev-A vs Non Rev A difference (seal is the same).  Any one else follow dumb rules like this?

Comments

  • But the color of the box/title are not the same on Tiger-Heli, a pretty more obvious variant than the seal, IMO.
  • a couple of the acclaim games have the gray and black boxes variants like Tiger Heli does.

I was going to say the same, 3D World runner  maybe?  You also remind me of something variant-wise, is it properly spelled Akklaim or Acclaim?  I've always seen it spelled with k's, but my Star Voyager box says "Acclaim"...

It is Acclaim, not Akklaim. Where did you see it spelled with K's ?

  • I only collect major box art variants. FFF Athletic World versus non-FFF AW. Blue Hollywood Squares versus black Hollywood Squares. Flying Dragon, Gun Smoke, Zelda, Metroid, etc.
  • I don't actively seek out those variants, but I know several of us that do keep them when they find 'em (like me). That was something I had planed to go back to at some point, filling in the seal variants I need. Some of the toughest ones to find are the newer oval seals on the black box games (ie, oval seal Slalom is semi-HTF).
  • I think the first mega man in your pic is just faded.

Nah, if you saw it in person you'd understand.  It's clearly a lighter shade and has no fading at all.  From completed listing on eBay you can see the difference too:
