Wizard of OZ: Beyond the yellow brick road

Has anyone tried this?  Its a quirky little turn based rpg by Xseed.  I picked it up recently based on recomendation by someone (I forget who, might even have been here) and Gave it a shot.

Gameplay (Not mine)

Its pretty fun.  Nice and short, interesting "ratio" system and fun re-imagining of the wizard of OZ story.  It does have a bit of repetative mazes, but it adds a cool little make your own waypoint system.  It also has a pokemon style "fire beats grass" thing going on.  Anyways, I would pick it up if you find it cheap.  Its probably one of those ones you see clearance on the walmart shelf because people think its garbage licensed shovelware.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more "OMG HIDDEN GEM" videos because Xseed is a solid Western publisher having done some Ys stuff, wildarms ETC.

  • There was quite a bit of talk about it at some point, hidden gem, buy buy buy, and all that. Still need to pick this one up though. It looks pretty fun, and I enjoy different takes on IPs that Disney did versions of, but that are public domain at their source.
  • It's on my list Xseed is known for there great but underrated games I can see them being harder to find in the future when demand for ds and wii games comes back. I would recommend looking up Little King's Story for the Wii same company and it is an amazing gem imo, it's one of my favorite games on that system it's pretty much Pikmin while building a kingdom although if you're going to play it I say go into it as blind as possible.

This is the type of recommendation I've been waiting for for Little King's Story. Saw a new copy six months ago for $30, regretting not buying it now. Of course, it was flourescent faded, but I'm sure it was still playable .

  • While we're on the subject of the Wizard of Oz, am I the only one in this congregation who wonders where the red brick road leads to?

Of course in Canada they follow the Trans-Canada Highway, the only road!

New Little King's Story is a good reimaging on the Vita that got a physical release in Europe. Worth noting if you happen to be a handheld gamer.

I actually hadn't heard anything positive about this particular Wizard of Oz game. Thanks for sharing MrWunderful! This will definately be on my radar now!

  • I thought it looked interesting! I'll have to check it out! Have you played the Alice in Wonderland game for DS? Was curious about that one as well.

Alice on the DS is a good one.  It should be cheap enough that I can say with confidence you should get it.

Wizard of Oz isn't quite as cheap.  I think it's come down in price from a year or two ago though.  It's on my list, just haven't found it yet.

EDIT: Huh, Amazon.com has sealed copies for $30.  That sounds reasonable, especially since they'll ship to Canada.

VenusBananaPeel; i'm going to have to disagree with the Vita version of LKS.  I think the changes and additions ruined some of the unique charm/magic/heart that the original Wii version has.  IMO that's by far the superior game

You can say what you want about anything, our lousy dollar, our shitty hockey teams, but I won't sit here and watch you talk trash about our highway.

  • Wasn't me saying it it was that South Park episode! Don't kill the messenger!

But seriously I just finished downloading all 300 episodes of the Red Green Show from its YouTube channel. That show rocks (especially the Possum Lodge word game and the b&w Adventures With Bill slapstick)
  • Wow i might have to check this out
  • I had no idea this even existed before seeing this thread today, lmao.
  • My girlfriend bought me this game last Christmas because I kept seeing it at EB Games and saying it was too expensive. Very glad she did !
  • Last year I found this locally, but didn't quite have enough money for this AND another game I'd been looking for. Well, I went for the other game first. I was very familiar with how good this was, having played it in the past, but I was expecting it to still be available when I came back, or at least be common enough to pop up on my radar again locally-- it wasn't, and it hasn't.

I guess MrWunderful just made my quest for this game even harder lol
