Sell Complete Collection as Whole or in Pieces?

So, I've been pondering an idea in my mind. Is it worth it to sell off an entire cart only collection as one lot, or would it be smarter to sell games individually? I know I've seen some lots, maybe 1 or 2 a year, that sell all the games, but is it really worth it? Or would it be smarter to piece it off? Thoughts?

  • I don't think we've ever seen a whole collection sell outright for anywhere close to what you could get parting it out, if you're patient.
  • Yeah, I would part it all out. It takes more time, but you're pretty much guaranteed to get more $.
  • $ wise splitting it is the way to go, but that is gonna take lots of time, so it will come down to your value of your time.
  • I've seen it said to pull out a majority of the "money" titles and sell them individually, leave a couple to spice up the large lot of commons.

That's how I'd go about it at least.
  • When I sold of my loose games I did pretty much what Randy said. I sold carts in small lots that went together nicely, like all the Mario games in one lot, etc. I took out the exceptionally rare games and sold them separate, and then I had one huge lot with all kinds of commons, with quite a few desirables like zeldas, MTPO's, and the sort. I had about 400 games and I made over 3000 off of them and my best game was definitely BB2. This was at the height of the NES spending frenzy though.
  • I think parting it out is the way to go. The only way i'd sell a complete set in one lot would be something like a Virtual Boy set where there are very few titles and someone might want to knock them all out at once.
  • Yeah you pretty much have to part it out if you want the most money. If you've had the patience to collect them, then I would think you'd have the patience to sell them and maximize your profits. You should appreciate these games with sentimental value, so it should only be natural to try and get the most for them...
  • i agree with everyone here... breaking them up is the way to go. sell the sets together... lolo, dragon warrior, mega man, etc. that will get you the most money for those individual sets, then break the rest out by selling the uncommon, rare, and popular titles in individual auctions. when you get down the the shit games that no one wants, either wait for an ebay special on listing fees, try to sell them on here, or just put up bulk lots on ebay (knowing that you will not make much on them seeing as though you already picked the good stuff out).
