Activison made some Awesome games on the 2600. I am thankful that I found some of the harder to find copies like Cosmic Commuter, Pressure Cooker, and Beamrider. I still wanting a copy of H.E.R.O, that is a pain to find.
Cool collection idea. I think, variants not included, there are like 30 or so titles in this subset. Shouldn't be too tough to knock out, and there are some great titles. It's s win-win.
yeah the main reason I'm going for it is the titles are all good as far as I know, it's cheap and it's not an overwhelming number of games. Also I think the carts look great stacked up
How many are in the set? I probably have like 30 of these that I was going to sell in a few months.
I believe it's 33 or something in the regular colourful labels, then there's the dark blue and black variants and some with full art labels. Not entirely sure on the number, just going off memory. Also I may be interested: p
Sure you can have first dibs, Ill let you know when I sell.
thank you! So double checked, there's 33 standard label, 11 full art, 18 blue, 18 white and 2 black according to Atariage. Although I remember seeing HERO in black and they don't have that noted, so I'm not sure how accurate it is
I have a green label regular Pitfall and also a green label international version Pitfall. You'll need both of those if collecting variants.
pickups today. I put the Activision set on hold because I've been on a kick of CIBs lately and that kills the wallet. Luckily Atari games are cheap this is what they had at the local thrift store, trying to avoid eBay since usually it's not even worth the price of shipping.
This is a cool set to go for. The 2600 was before my time and I didn't get one until like 2012 or so, but some of the games are still fun I think.
You're right about it being cheap; that's definitely a draw for me as most other systems have gotten way too expensive and competitive for me to collect for.
You should look into the Starpath/Arcadia Supercharger if you get bored with the Activision set or want to go into some new territory. It was a peripheral device that would play games from a cassette through the audio port, and the games are upgraded substantially from the sound/graphics you see with regular 2600 games. Some of them are close to basic NES games, like an upgraded Frogger that actually has music and more color depth. The actual device usually goes for around $40, but you can download the .mp3s of all the games and play them from your phone or whatever.
I found a Supercharger at a thrift shop last year! Very cool piece and would definitely be a fun set to collect. I ended up selling it though because I figured I would never find any of the cassettes in the wild.

I've only come across one; it was at a local shop but it was complete ("Communist Mutants From Space"). Sucks that you sold it; did you know you don't have to use the cassettes?

I remember reading about being able to burn the games to blank CDs and playing the games that way.
You don't need to do all that. You could even just connect the cord on the Supercharger to your computer audio out port and play them from there. I personally have them on my iPod touch, so I can see the cover art and stuff when I boot them up.
Side note, once you complete this, you gonna go for Imagic next?
Yes actually. I've had some recommendations for them already so I think that's a good next step. I'm thinking I might knock out one publisher at a time until I have everything except the bullshit rare stuff like Birthday Mania and Air Raid.

I think that's around the time I got mine as well. I was born in 92 so way after the Atari was big they're great for when you have 20 minutes to kill and yeah the price is absolutely a draw. Picking up games for a couple bucks a piece again feels great, like the good old days with nes and snes.

Cool, I posted comparisons of these two not that long ago. Supercharger is AWESOME. I do want to get an old-school tape player for mine sometime, with a counter.

+ 1 on the Supercharger. I found one for super cheap several years ago along with a little over half of the library CIB. I haven't found any other games since then, but as others have said, you can get around having the actual games pretty easily. However, I love firing up my old cassette deck (which is still hooked up and ready to go with the rest of my A/V equipment within a few feet of my gaming setup).
You need Stampede! Crazy fun Activision game. If you start collecting Imagic, Demon Attack is a must. It's my favorite 2600 game.
Seaquest is another must have Activision game.
I've seen gameplay on stampede before, it does look really good seaquest I don't know anything about yet. As for imagic I still haven't tried any of their games yet but that'll definitely be next on the list

Uh oh...people getting excited Atari is cheap...not good for me lol.
Anyone here actually have a FULL Atari set...I mean all the games (or at least as many as humanly possible...I've heard a few were mail order through catalogs and only a few even exist today...)? I kinda want to go for it because well...one the cheapness and two I don't see a lot of collectors collect for it...
I can't believe we made it to page 3 and nobody mentioned Chopper Command! Sorry if someone did and I missed it. This was one of my all-time fave Atari games.
I... sort of agree. Stampede is actually one of the more fun games I've played on the system. Most 2600 games I've played are too primitive to be all that enjoyable, but there are some that are legitimately fun outside of the historical context.

I don't think you have to worry about prices spiking on Atari stuff, but I guess you never know The thing about a full Atari set is there's a ton of label variants, a ton of games that are the same, just a minor hack and a bunch of games that are confirmed to exist but only a handful of copies have surfaced. So you gotta know when to say when. I'm going off a list somebody posted on AtariAge that doesn't count label variants or minor hacks, just unique titles released in North America, and that list is only about 420 games. I know people will say it's not a "full set" but I'm not interested in thousands of games where the majority are copies of each other, so that's good enough for me
The ship has sailed for the Atari, I wouldn't worry about a price spike.
I'll keep my eyes open for Activision carts for ya, Bert.
I kind of agree. Other then the crazy rares, I don't think 2600 games will be breaking anyone's wallet anytime soon. It's a nice change from the craziness that is NES, SNES and N64 collecting right now.

Nice! Here's a photo I took a while back of some of my favorites. I love Activision.
some great games there! I think frostbite deserves more love, really enjoy that one

I organized them by color, just for the hell of it. I'm not sure how close I was to a full set. How many are there total?

Activision made a bunch of great games for the 2600. I'll show you what I had for the system:

44, not counting label variants, afaik. They do look nice organized by color!
