Nes games you will never plan on beating

A good portion of RPG, simulators, shooters and puzzle games, games like Maniac Mansion (c64 is better), Dr. Chaos ( Maybe not!), Rescue Embassy Mission for example.

Its not every game out there, it's the ones that stick out the most to you that you think you will never beat.

Can't think of a specific one, but I have most of the NES space shooters, and I don't think I'll beat all of them in my lifetime. I am determined to get through Zanac at some point, but the fourth level gets insane and there are eight levels after that.

I always think your profile picture is silver surfer first glance.

    also, silver surfer for Nes
  • Well there's always Game Genie for those impossibly tough games. Stuff like Battle Toads and Silver Surfer just don't interest me. I wonder what the mindset of developers back in the day making ferociously tough NES games. There's a fine line between fun and frustrating. I prefer to play "fun" games myself...

Also you don't have to "beat" a game to extract enjoyment from it. Even Ninja Gaiden and stuff is pretty good for the first few levels. My two cents...
  • FF and DW
  • I will never beat most NES games.
  • For my blog I took a little over 80 games out of my list. Stuff like the KOEI games, some sports games, and a few others. But now I'm thinking I'll eventually want to come around to those before I get to the bitter end if I continue to stick with my project.
  • Stadium Events
  • Ikari Warriors is the only NES game I won't even play anymore, let alone attempt to complete.
  • probably 90% + of the library since most games are total crap.
  • Off the top of my head, first thought is games without continues, like Ninja Gaiden III.
  • None! All games have a strategy behind them. And I get a strange satisfaction over beating a new game, even if it's absolutely terrible.
  • Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm if it is "possible" to beat meaning that there is no game breaking glitches or you can actually reach credits or end of story etc. I could probably beat it.

Sports games and puzzle games I would need a clear description of what constitutes "beating" the game as some are just endless or have no tournament mode etc.

NGIII has five continues and is quite generous with 1ups. It's tough, but someone who can beat the first two should be able to do it.

  • Nothing is off the table.
  • Sesame Street ABCs and 12...I can never remember what comes next

Some games without continues aren't too bad to beat, e.g. Trojan and Double Dragon.

A bunch of people were able to complete DD in the recent contest.

Not sure why I thought it had zero. Huh! Thank you for the clarification. Still one I don't have in the collection.

  • Ninja gaiden 3 and star wars. Way too hard, hell, star wars cost me who knows how much time in my life that I'll never get back. Oh yeah and Bayou Billy, fuck that game and those shooting stages.
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

See folks, this young man is going places. Look at that confidence.

I agree with him too, if a game is beatable, then why not at least try?

Don't pee on the cords or the power supply (again), Toxie!

I also second Ninja Gaiden III. Sweet lawd, what a game. Also, lol @ Sesame Street ABC 123.
  • Hylide is the first one to pop into my head.

My issue with games is that when I start them, and I know they can be beaten, I continue on playing it until I beat it (without continues). Bad Dudes was the last game that happened with - I started it up to see if it was as enjoyable as it was when I was a kid (it is), but the controls are a bit stiff and the game is pretty challenging (seems to be due to some poor collision routines, or I just suck). Anyway, took me about a week and a half, playing at about 2 to 3 hours daily.
  • Every RPG ever made.

For games I actually play.... Battletoads, Ninja Gaiden, various others.

I'd like to give TMNT a real run for it's money, so I haven't given up on that one yet.

Thats funny cuz I beat NG3 earlier this year, and Bayou Billy last week.  Star Wars I got to the 3rd to last stage.

You should reconsider, this game is not online totally beatable but one of the most fun games to try at!.  Just save your scrolls for the gauntlet at the end.. at least the first time.

I recall NG3 took me about 10 days to beat when I first got the cartridge. I beat it on my last life of my last continue. Then it took me a while longer to get to the point where I could 1cc it.

I'll never beat it but do like playing it.  Just pisses me off in the later levels.

  • For me,it's not a "can I beat it" question but I do want to pour the time into it to do so.

Depends on the tediousness on the game more than anything.

Ikari Warriors is one of the first games that comes up for me,not because the game is very difficult and cheap, but because it's tedious. I like the game, but in short bursts.

Another game is Arkista's Ring. Not a bad game, but I just don't feel like playing through it four times to see the ending. I played through it twice and thought it looped forever so just turned it off. Later I learned that you had to loop it four times. Haven't played it since.

Shit man there is an ending after 4 loops? I guess I know what I'm going to be up to soon haha. I have beat the first loop a few times. I got this game in like '92
