Best looking way to play GC/PS2

I was wondering what might be the best looking way to hook up Gamecube and PS2 to get it looking the best. For PS2 I assume componant cables are easier to get a hold of and would look reletivly ok on a flat screen.

For gamecube componant cables are just too expensive, would it be better to use a wii with componant cables to get the best picture?

Would a framemeister do better???

Thanks in advance for any advice!

  • PS2 through component on a flat screen looks better than realitively ok. PS1 looks good too on PS2 via component but depending on the tv it may not produce a picture. The OEM PS cables are surprisingly hard to find in the wild but I would say wait out an eBay auction and you'll get em for $20-30

Wholly recommend them. Also if you can find a WEGA LCD flat panel, scoop it for component, VGA and svideo
  • This is a very involved topic, but ultimately it all comes down to preference. "My life in gaming" is a VERY well down youtube channel that's dedicated to this topic. They show side by side comparisions and talk about the complicated specs behind everything. Highly recommended.
  • For the GC the best way is either component cables or the HDMI mod using a PlutoII FPGA board with GCVideo
  • You could get a GameCube compatible Wii
  • Only problem with running them through the Wii is that colors are muted. Though if you can get one for 25-30 then it sure beats the other options. I forgot to mention you could always try and get the S Video cables as a stop gap. Almost as good especially if you have your cube set up so it can use Swiss.
  • PS2 - Component

    GC - Wii with Component

That's the most cost effective solution. All the other solutions cost a lot more money and aren't worth it expect in a few edge cases (like using the Game Boy Player or 240p titles on the PS2)
  • Thanks for the replies everyone! Watching that my life in gaming video was really informative and they did a great job of breaking it all down.

I have my original launch wii so getting component cables for that would be simple enough. I'm intrigued by the hdmi mod for the gamecube but quite honestly the results don't seem that much better than the wii might with component cables. Now the gameboy player with hdmi... THAT is a whole separate matter...

@teh lurv, thanks for the simple answer! It is looking like that would be easiest for me and looks like a small investment compared to the more invasive options that have only slightly nicer results.
  • I have done several gc hdmi mods an would say that's the best way to go.the board is 60$& heck of a lot of work to install.but well worth it.imagine you break your hdmi cable opps.just go out an buy another cheap one compared to a 200$ cable
