Getting snookered by NES Side Pocket

Jeez, this game is hard, or maybe I just suck at pool. I can barely make it to the state championship, and then blow it pretty much immediately.

Any tips on getting better, or is it just a matter of practice?

  • Gotta get good
  • Solid advice

After my little tantrum a few days ago, I've been playing this a ton and have graduated from horrendous to just terrible. One thing that makes it easier is that the trick shots and bonus shots are set and limited, so once you have those memorized, it's just a matter of getting better at the main game.

Can someone explain the appropriate use of the follow and draw options? I mean, I see it changes the behavior of shots, obviously, but it's hard for me to visualize the effect and when it's useful.
  • YES! YES!!! I AM GAME WINNER!

I'm embarrassed to say how much time I spent trying to beat this f****** game.

It took a while to figure out the optimal break for each set of balls, then a general plan of attack after that. For the USA and World levels, it's easier to get all 6 balls in order and try to get a few consecutive shots, rather than focusing on getting all the balls in and trying to get some consecutive numbers in, if that makes any sense.

Also, the Zone and Super Ball blow chunks.

That girl really pisses me off, too. The second you're not champion, she won't even talk to you. Get bent, lady.
  • Well done! Can't say I've put much time into this one, but I imagine all of the pool games are pretty challenging if you need to be perfect or near-perfect to complete them.
  • I had this game as a kid and always thought, jeez this game is just too hard for kids. Then as an adult I played again and realized no it's still too damn hard lol
  • It would be pretty easy except the controls are wonky... The dashed line doesn't really line up with where you'd expect it to go, and that takes a lot of getting used to.

Also, you can't do a real hard break like you can in real life. Even at the hardest speed, they mostly sit on the left side of the table like a lump of crap. You need to play around with the settings on each rack type to figure out a halfway decent break.
