Boom shakalaka!
He's on fire!
Congrats on this feat man! You showed a lot of perseverance with this one, while competing in the weekly contest all along, impressive!
I was just having a great run. I beat the third rat on my first try and then no-deathed Clinger Winger. It was bound to happen.

BTW, I only got two 1ups from the birds in this run. That's the most that I ever get because I suck at collecting extra lives in stage two.
In a sense, it makes your run even more impressive. I use to collect a bunch of extra lives with these birds, I never truly made the 1ups count but it was something around 20 for sure.

Ouch. I can definitely attest how much harder it is to beat it without any/many bird 1UPs

Not being any good at collecting 1ups from birds forces the player to just get good at completing levels with few or no deaths in order to rack up lives. Many stages have 1ups you can grab, as well as what you get from points.
And thank you so much for the Clinger Winger boss advice. I kicked that boss's ass with no deaths on my victory run and I needed to die as few times as possible.
I don't know if you've seen the Bootsy Beats videos on how to beat Battletoads, but his Clinger Winger boss strategy is needlessly difficult for the first pattern. Your way is so much better.
Congrats man! It is always nice to put that one away.
I was surprised by how difficult the Dark Queen is. Of course she's easy enough if you have enough lives, but good luck if you're facing her with only three or four lives. The trick to beating her for the first time is get to her with enough lives.
Quite an accomplishment.
I've beat it but only with the shortcuts lol
Bubble Bobble is one of my all-time favorites. We made episodes of it for the channel.
Bring a friend along for the ride, though. Much better two-player game, IMO.
Did you do a full run? or take the shortcuts.

No warps. The only shortcut I take is in the final section of Karnath's Lair rather than doing all the snakes.

I've never actually watched that video

Here you go. His CW boss strategy blows, or at least it's for more advanced players. I kept trying to use it and dying a lot.
I know this has been a goal of yours for some time and I'm happy you've reached this hefty milestone.
Battletoads is notoriously hard.
Your NES prowess has been on the rise big time.
Congrats!
Super pumped for you Michael.

It was the weekly contests that got me back into this game. I probably never would have made a serious attempt at a warpless completion without the contest making me realize that I can do it. So thanks NA and the contests. You guys rock.
Congrats! That is quite the accomplishment. Battletoads is one of those games I will probably never beat because I can never get the hang of controlling the bike on Clinger Winger.
Believe me, it took me days of practice and many deaths before I could get a feel for Clinger Winger. I thought that it was impossible. And then I could do it the first time every time. I guess it's one of those little skills that some people can get and others can't. It's supposed to be even harder on a new TV.
Congrats! That last post is why I love beating NES games. I still get that feeling because the games were hard and much more rewarding when you beat it! This might end up making me want to revisit the game. Stopped at the end of Volks
I now think that it was a good idea to only have three continues in Battletoads. There's much more at stake when you can get a game over and have to start over, rather than being able to credit feed until you win, which raises the excitement and blood pressure on later stages.

I don't have too much trouble getting there, I just usually don't have enough lives in reserve to get decent practice at it. By then, I usually only have like 2 or 3 lives left depending on how I do elsewhere in the game. I always take the warp in the Snake Pit because I'm not that great at that level and I really suck at Volkmire's Inferno. Sometimes I burn too many lives in Intruder Excluder and the Terra Tubes which leaves me with next to nothing for Clinger Winger. When it comes to the Rat Race, I can get through it pretty easily. I wish there was a warp right to Clinger Winger somewhere so I could get more practice at it. And if there's one somewhere in the game, I have no idea where it is.
