TG blows. I had (would have had?) 2nd on SMB3 and destroyed a few other high scores back in the day (2009ish) as I'm sure most people on here could playing a single game for like a week. Their submission process was painful and, in the end, I never even got a response from them. That was a lot of hassle for them to not even reply to.
I almost did it again a couple years ago, but they had this weird process of having to review like 5 other people's submissions before you could sumbit your own (don't remember exactly, it was something weird like this). I'm not even sure what they do anymore. The appeal just isn't there for me anymore.

This is pretty much the type of response I see in regards to TG nowdays
... and I was drunk off my ass on 4 glasses of Champagne.
Really? 4 glasses? I'm hoping each glass was the size of the champagne bottle
4 glasses is a standard bottle of wine, so it sounds like he just drank a bottle to himself.
That 750 ml at 12% alcohol.
Most people are definitely legally "drunk" with that much, but "drunk off his ass" is a stretch, unless he's 90 lbs and Asian
It's all about the timing. How quickly was the bottle downed? If it were over the course of a few hours, the person probably wouldn't even be drunk after that amount.

Even if he shotgunned it, most grown men wouldn't be "drunk off their ass" from it.
Tipsy, yes. Legally unable to operate a vehicle, absolutely.
But not "drunk off their ass" (never seen a picture of him, though, so maybe he IS only 90 lbs, or of a predisposition to be particularly sensitive to alcohol)
EDIT: it's another matter entirely, of course, to shotgun something that fizzy and not have it come rumbling right back up, though

I'm thinking there needs to be a TG for alcohol consumption. I'm sure they'd have no problems getting submissions.
For the record it was a 4 glasses of champagne in about 30 mins. I might have had a beer after that too, I don't remember. Perhaps "drunk of my ass" was hyperbolic, but I was definitely not sober at that point.
I think the bottle purported itself to be champagne, but it was definately not $50 lol.
I did a quick search, since I haven't looked into sparkling wines in a long time, and apparently you can get "real" (i.e. from France) Champagne for as little as $30. (still a ridiculous amount to spend on 4 glasses of anything, IMO )
But sparkling wines are way cheaper, where you can get something that tastes decent for $15 or less.
I submitted a 999,999 point run in Battletoads quite easily.
In terms of the scores being beat. If you can beat a score, prove it. Don't talk shit on here about how awesome you are.... Post your score/time! PROVE IT.
If anyone beat my Skate or Die ramp record I would be hella surprised. And I wouldn't accept it as fact unless I saw the video.
Saying that people here beat the record, with only a screenshot as proof, doesn't mean anything.
There's too many ways to cheat, whether it's leeching, or warping, or using save states.... You need to see the full video to be valid.
So to answer the OP's question again:
It's pretty easy to submit scores. I had an issue uploading the video because it was 45 minutes long, but my YouTube link got approved.
If you can beat a score, do it!
1) it's awesome to see your name on the leaderboard
2) you might end up in a Guinness book of records.
Also, cue AirVillain to come disagree with everyone.
Took longer than I expected.
Some people here have beaten records on TG. They don't care enough to "prove it", or don't agree with TG's procedures. If you think every record is on TG, you're only kidding yourself.
Note: that being said. I also agree that the recent changes have been somewhat shitty. Especially when they veiled a beg for money with players' "right to game"

if that's the case, shit up about it.
Theres no no point about bragging what you can do if you can't back it up.
who likes a shit talker? No one. Back it up if you really can.
What's so odd about that?
If those people don't care about the Twin Galaxies records then why even compare yourself to them? Why even bother looking at their scores at all?
I'm not on Twin Galxies side, trust me, but it's annoying when everyone says "oh, we can beat this, this, and this record."

Well, to that I say "prove it."
Ironically, this is the only "shit talk" about the issue I see in the thread. (other than Pegboy's opening post, obviously )
Anybody else posting, is just plainly stating the facts, that plenty of people can and have beaten the TG scores, and they're making those statements without any of this kind of negative attitude.
And plenty of people have "proven it" with photo evidence for the various high score contests.
If you want to run off on a tangent about saying participants are liars, or something, that's your funeral, but those among us honorable enough to believe that others can and are abiding by the honor system, think the point is pretty well proven, to a reasonable extent.
What's the point? Most of their "records" are worthless and not even close to the real records. I beat or nearly beat several of the Super Mario Kart times after only playing for a few hours. And that included smashing the Rainbow Road "record" and I was drunk off my ass on 4 glasses of Champagne. The real record for RR is still like 3 seconds faster than mine.
They also invent a bunch of retarded rules and stipulations for certain games to "fix" issues when in reality those games have absolutely meaningless scoring (i.e. Mega Man, Ninja Gaiden and most NES games for that matter). It's pretty much a complete joke as far as I'm concerned.
Archangel .... This is what I was referring to.
And others aren't being rude and shit talking... But saying they can beat other records, as polite as it is, is "shit talking".

No, it's not. That isn't what "shit talking" is, at all.
If you state some kind of benchmark, and I honestly state that I can do better than said benchmark, that isn't "shit talk".
That is just a statement of fact, whether I deign to "prove it" with a picture, or not.
Now if I make that same statement in a nasty way that seeks to tear you down in the process, THAT is "shit talk".
(i.e. Pegboy's post is "shit talk", whether he backs it up with proof, or not, just based on the tone)
Example: (chosen just because I have good context for the scores)
[Not Shit-Talk]
(a) Suppose some (completely made up) "official record" exists for Tetris that is 500k for the high score.
(b) I post and honestly state that I can definitely beat that, on a good day (whether I "prove it" to naysayers, or not)
[Shit-Talk]
(a) You post your "official record" for Tetris at 500k for a high score.
(b) I say, "weak! I'm going to fucking destroy your score and feed your testicles to your children" That is CLASSIC Mike-Tyson-Grade "shit talk"
Notice the difference in tone, intent, and general demeanor

Just responded... Previous to your edit and additions.
I am NOT questioning the validity of anyone's scores... What I'm saying is, a screen shot is not sufficient to determine HOW a score was acheived.
Theres no doubt in my mind that there are lots of ppl here that can better TG records... But for those records to actually be "beat", a video is required.
its pretty simple and I wasn't putting anyone down (except those talking shit about how awesome they are and how TG records suck).
the point is this... If you can do it, prove it... If you're not willing to prove it, shut up.
Why are we okay with someone trash talking and saying they can beat certain records when they haven't proven anything?
what if someone went to the weekly contests saying they could beat all the records but didn't show one single score? You'd think they were full of it, right?? Same deal here...

You are welcome to harbor that interpretation.
But where I come from, if a person is believed to be trustworthy, you generally take them at their word, because failing to do so is calling them a liar.
If somebody posts something outlandish, sure, call them on their bullshit, because they're obviously lying.
If somebody posts something within the realm of reason, there is no profit in calling them a liar or refusing to take them at their word, unless they've otherwise proven themselve untrustworthy.
the point is this... If you can do it, prove it... If you're not willing to prove it, shut up.

It's not the "same deal here". While the weekly contests ask for "proof", that proof extends a great deal of trust, in terms of method of play and honesty of play.
But we still need a photo as a record, and as an extremely low-barrier-to-entry item to weed out liars.
Fully vetted video evidence is a HUGE barrier to entry compared to that, both in terms of equipment required, effort of getting the footage, and time required to review and vet the score.
Nobody is suggesting that you should trust outright what some total random person, of unknown trustworthiness, says, regarding a score or achievement.
What we are generally suggesting, though, is that within a community of people who, to some extent, know each other enough to have established a certain level of mutual respect and trust, it is possible to share these kinds of stories with each other without being told to "shut up and prove it", or in the instance of the weekly contests, photo proof is adequate.
If you want to stay outside of that circle of trust, where we can have those kinds of conversations, and share our gaming war stories, without being called liars or shit talkers, that is your prerogative.
Or, you could change your tune, and realize that those of us who generally post these things, are in fact honest people, speaking frankly and just having a conversation, rather than us asking for a medal of recognition we don't care about
Doesn't matter how trustworthy a person is. If they talk shit, they talk shit. It's pretty simple.
If someone is just talking about their accomplishments, but not willing to prove it by showing their skill... That's the definition of shit talk.
It seems like a sad way to go through life thinking that everything honest people say is "shit talk" if they don't "prove it to you", at your request and to your satisfaction.
And for what it's worth, MOST of the posts in this thread about beating TG records have to do with the weekly contests where there IS proof.
(just not proof that you apparently find adequate)
the point is this... If you can do it, prove it... If you're not willing to prove it, shut up.

I think maybe you've misunderstood me.
also, you agreed with me that Pegboy was shit talking.... So where's the beef?
I wasn't referring to the weekly contests for needing video. Nor did I say anything negative about the weekly contests.
Hell, I like me a little shit talking here and there... I've played sports all my life.
And I do trust the ppl in the weekly contests.
There's just very little point saying "I can beat that score" and not proving it. It's just shit talking.... Which is fine, there's just no point to it.

I mean, this is like a $50+ question, here

That's fine if they don't care to prove it.
if that's the case, shit up about it.
My point is that it's shit talk (trash talking) until someone can back it up. Until you back it up, that's all it is, is talk.
That being said, arch, I understand your point.
I agree with with it to a certain extent.... But I still believe you can be polite and shit talk someone's score at the same time.
1) I can get 500,000 in tetris
2) That's excellent, I can do you one better good sir, I can get 550,000... But I refuse to show you how I did it.
.... Still shit talking.

Politeness aside..... Those are the same thing.
No they aren't.
Politeness aside..... Those are the same thing.
No they aren't.
It boils down to high school jocularity...
Doesn't matter how trustworthy a person is. If they talk shit, they talk shit. It's pretty simple.
If someone is just talking about their accomplishments, but not willing to prove it by showing their skill... That's the definition of shit talk.

I think maybe you've misunderstood me.
also, you agreed with me that Pegboy was shit talking.... So where's the beef?
I wasn't referring to the weekly contests for needing video. Nor did I say anything negative about the weekly contests.
Hell, I like me a little shit talking here and there... I've played sports all my life.
And I do trust the ppl in the weekly contests.
There's just very little point saying "I can beat that score" and not proving it. It's just shit talking.... Which is fine, there's just no point to it.
