Haha, nah, I'm done.  I know I could get 900,000+ but I just can't invest the time into it

Agreed on the second loop.  I have it paused right now on level 13, and the first boss definitely caught me by suprise with the changed attacks

Good first attempt!  Made it all the way to the final boss and I was really close to finishing it off, but alas!

I left some points on the table here too.  I got 39/40 on FIVE of the Chance Stages and I only got a perfect 40/40 on the very first one.  It got to the point where every time I missed an enemy I knew it would be the only one I wouldn't kill.

Second attempt and game finished!  This was a higher scoring run than last time even subtracting the final boss kill and I'm not sure what I did exactly to bump my score up but I'll take it!

You either got more perfects on the chance stages or completed more combos on the regular stages.

Only encountered it once so far and yeah..... Couldn't even get a hit in
  • My Gyruss fever can't be contained by a single port. Working on my high score in the Atari 8-bit version. Wish me luck, homies.

I did get two perfects instead of one this time.  I also noticed if you are maxed out on phasers then you get 3000 points for each one you grab afterwards.  That probably makes up the difference.  It just didn't feel like I played that much better than the first time, but I suppose I did if the score says so!

  • Just for fun, here's the playing into loop 2 score:  1,187,000

Made it to level 21, but just kept dying to random stuff

Stellar. Ha, sadly, that's how I am on the first loop. I'll die to the simplest stuff, but I have to restrain myself from resetting because sometimes things work out. Sometimes.

    Score updated.
  • The Sun is easily the hardest boss. F that guy.
  • Fuck Gyruss.
  • I die too often to the enemies that look like porcupines and start off as shells. If you've played this game past stage 7 then you know which ones I mean.

Yeah, I hate those, too. I usually breathe a sigh of relief when I get to stage 17 or so because they stop appearing. I've gotten to where I can handle them, but they're definitely a pain; you have to prioritize shooting them over everything else.

They appear from stages 9 through 11 making Uranus quite difficult. They suck because they're fast and their movement is erratic. It's best to kill them quickly.

That's a unique level enemy. Every planet has one.  Some are more annoying than others. That nautilus looking thing is near or at the top.

Saturn and Jupiter have harder bosses, but the levels themselves are much easier than Uranus. I'm glad that enemy is relegated to Uranus.

At least they didn't call it Urpenis. Haha.

  • I've found that the best strategy for the swinging arm boss is not even try to aim your special shots at it because that is so hard to do. Just be extremely defensive and keep circling around it while firing and try to get enough shots in before getting killed.
  • Ended up using the "a" button on that crazy arms boss. That's the most difficult part of the game so far.
  • Just so you all know, I didn't forget about this challenge. Just been having a lot of stuff going on. I've been doing practice bouts on this. I can say that A controls suck ass. B controls are where it's at.
  • I made it to the Mars boss and still only got around 350k. I'm definitely not point racking. :/

I've stuck to the default controls. I might give B a try.

It's about the combos (clearing out the enemy waves before they reach the bottom in succession) and the perfects on the chance stages.

I'm not the best at combos and the chance stages. I sometimes get a perfect on the first chance stage, and don't do as well on the rest.

  • I'm hoping the 12 hour road trip I'm going on Saturday morning gives me time to get a better run in, last place feels so dirty after my few big pushes in recent weeks

I've literally never had this happen. From what I know, the blue power up only comes out if you just have the single shot unless you know something I don't. Maybe you mean something else?
