One trick I find that works well for him is to try and knock him down near the top of the ring and then stand directly below him near the bottom of the ring. He typically runs a little to the left or right for whatever reason and you should be able to get at him again. Most of the final Fight bosses seem to be programmed to go blow for blow during the fights.

I've also discovered that, when he's in that "staggered" position just after he gets up but before he charges, you can actually grab him if you're quick enough. If you get lucky and can keep him in the corner of the ring, you can chain this into a series of throws that can demolish his health bar without any chance of him fighting back.

I beat him first try with Haggar and only lost one life. I'd grab and slam him, back up outside of charge range and hit him with his sword.

For some reason the pair of Andres right at the start of the next stage kept slamming me and completely destroyed me.

I seemed to gather 4,000 between beating Belger and when the game restarted and showed my high score on the title screen. Not sure if that's from beating the game or from killing the Andre when I suplexed him through Belger for the final hit. Was somewhat of a crappy run. I died three or four times where I can usually stay alive. A little rusty.
  • Just a few tips for people.

    - Special move (jump+attack) more or less every time you get hit. More so for Hagger since his punch speed is outmatched by just about every enemy. This will also help you avoid being sat on by the Andres.

    - Try to gather people up all on one side. If you hold away from the enemy while punching them, you will throw or suplex them to the opposite side.

    - With the exception of food camping, pick up items as fast as possible because they cause significant lag (knives) and will make the game significantly less responsive.

    - When you have full/high energy, camp the BBQ before killing everyone and then move on.

    - Standing triple Knee/headbutt take the most energy as far as I can tell (grab+3 single attack inputs).

    - Keep in mind enemy recovery (El Gado and Hollywood get up very fast after knockdown, while the generic thugs take a while).

    - I find jump kicking, or even better, chest-press/air knee (jump+(down+attack)) works really well against the running bald guys. Dropkicks also work well on Axl/Slash when they're weak.

    - Give bosses some room after you knock them down. They have temporary invincibility after getting up (can't grab them and will likely get slammed).

Probably common knowledge for a lot of you guys, but maybe a few pointers that will help some people.
  • I figured out on my 2nd or 3rd credit of my attempt that I should use the special move more liberally. I also did manage to beat Sodom, forgot to mention that. Hopefully with those tips I can actually make some decent progress in the game.
  • Why use your special move often if it takes health?

The game is pretty liberal with food pickups, and the attack only drains health if you make contact from my experience. You really don't need it except on bosses like Sodom and Twin Andres.

Because the hits you'll take from the enemies while you're stun-locked is way more than you'll lose with the special (in the worst cases, enemy hit-combos will drain your entire life bar). In fact, even a single hit from common enemies can often drain more than executing the special. It's far less prohibitive here than in many other beat-em-up games. My general advice is, if it looks like the enemies are going to surround you and close in for hit, go ahead and mash out the special attack. Trust me, you're much better off safe than sorry.

Good point. I know that the pair of Andres demolished my life bar once they started slamming me left and right. Should have used it then.

For some reason the pair of Andres right at the start of the next stage kept slamming me and completely destroyed me.

For my personal play style, I find Haggar's attacks to be generally too slow, so I favor Cody. That said, when using Cody, I've found the twin Andore's to be really easy with a simple trick. When you first enter the stage (before they drop down into the ring), immediately move to the far left. Once they drop down, hit the closest Andore and knock him away. From this point on, they will usually take turns charging at you. Just time your punches to interrupt their charge and they have no chance to fight back. The first one charges and gets knocked back. The second charges and gets knocked back. Rinse and repeat. Again, Haggar's punches are slower making it harder to consistently interrupt their charges but if you're timing is good enough, you can probably still do it.
  • Yep, it's all about avoiding the stun lock/lag. When you get hit, more times than not, you won't even be able to punch again without them taking your entire life bar. It does take energy, but usually it's worth it. Using your special will also clear everyone around you, so even if you are lucky enough to break out of an attack there will likely be another enemy approaching you from somewhere else.

Andore is definitely easier with Cody. I play a little ore aggressive with Hagger and try not to give them time/room to charge.
  • Haggar is slower but does more damage, where as Cody is faster and does less. Also, keep in mind that there is some minor lag after attacking, so timing is everything. There is also an issue with hit detection while jumping, so if an enemy is notorious for grabs and slams, be sure to have ample room to jump kick or they could grab you from a distance. And as some have mentioned, weapons have horrible lag time, the fastest is the knife and is still slower than Cody's punch. However, long weapons like the sword or pipe are great for stopping chargers and clearly weak groups with the right timing.
  • Got back to the Andores last night. Got smashed. Will hopefully have some time tonight to practice. But I'm busy most of this month :/

SAI is a total bitch. I can beat the first boss but haven't done so on the first life yet. I'm assuming I may be able to get to the 2nd boss by the end of the month. lolz

My Andore strategy is to grab a pipe or Katana, and keep one on each side of you.   Take turns hitting them with the pipe/Katana.   Takes forever, but it keeps them far enough away from you so they can't grab.

I think I tried that but got flustered and I feel like if you miss one opportunity with them it's tough to regain control. I'll give that a shot though.

  • Super Adventure Island - Stage 3-2

Always enjoyed the Adventure Island series, even though I never felt like I was very good at them. It's been a long time since I last played Super Adventure Island but I think I'm getting back into the groove. I'd almost forgotten how addictively fun it can be!

Update: Getting back into this game has been good fun. With a little memorization, the game is actually pretty easy. Much easier than I remember from my youth. Then again, it was never a game that I owned, so I only got to play it at a friend's house or the few times I rented it. I only died on 3-2 by a spear-chucking monkey who threw a spear just as he died and caught me by surprise. Gonna plug away some more and am convinced I can do better.

  • Update: New scores in a later post

  • Died on the boss at the end of 4-3. He is easy so I should be able to get to5-1. FYI u can throw boomerangs up and down. Didn't know that until my 2nd or 3rd run. You can also float to the bottom without dying on the 2-3 boss which makes him insanely easy. World 3 boss is tough if u don't kill him fast. Difficulty definitely ramps up in world 5 although I got to 5-3 withouttoo much trouble . I know we are only playing until 1 death but if u lose your item in this game you are so fucked. Oh I also forgot to mention u can super jump by holding down and then jumping. Another thing I found out by mistake.

Found a couple secret areas but failed pretty much instantly. Not sure if they r just for points. Probably watch a long play to see if I am missing anything else as the boomerang thing made the game way easier.
  • Level 5 the last level. Got to the final form of the last boss without dying. Basically missed it by one jump. Definitely aggravating as I went back to play him again and the first form seems to have some RNG attack the us really hard to dodge. Did end up beating the game eventually. Looks like Hudson soft spent a good afternoon making this game. Like 6 total enemies and the game can be completed in 20 min. I guess it was an early release.
  • Final Fight score: 1,818, 520

The tips in this thread helped a lot. I basically just use Cody, group the enemies to one side of the screen, and just wail away on the punch button. His standard punches stop just about everything short of Katana/Sodom/s charge, Abigail's non-raging punch/grab, etc. Can even punch away the last boss's arrows.

Something I like to do that I haven't seen mentioned, is to do the jumping knee strike to stun enemies, and immediately jump kick, in the same jump. Just do the input to do the jumping knee, and immediately attack again while in mid-air to land the jump kick. Very helpful if jumping into a crowd, lessens the chance of one of the enemies swatting you out of the air.

I failed to get a pic during the actual boss fight. I'll try another attempt if the actual boss fight pic is necessary.

He is the hardest boss in the game IMO.  I stood at the very right of the screen and would move up and down and just special move when he got close.  It takes power but if he hits you you are pretty much dead.  Still took me a couple lives
