I was obsessed in the summer of 1999. I got my GameBoy Color with Pokemon Red, all the cards, etc.
Sounds like my oldest he was big into it as well damn cards were everywhere and he had to have all the games or die. Now he's moved over to YuGiOh...moar cards yay... My youngest was given a gba emerald with the label missing and dead battery I fixed it up for him, he likes the "monsters" as he calls them so his interest is gaining.
Wow, YuGiOh is really still a thing?
I "graduated" to it in 4th grade, 2003-2004. I thought it had died off.

Apparently it is around here as there's tournaments and him and his friends go once a week what time they're not battling one a other here or at their house.

I never got into the Yugioh stuff. Pokemon always for this guy! Ah, I remember when there were only 151 of them bastards!
I feel like it's one of those things you had to be into as a kid to really enjoy. If I didn't play the games as a kid, I'd probably find them extremely frustrating. XD
Oh yeah, if I wasn't the perfect age to get sucked into Pokemon when I was a kid, I highly doubt i'd like it now. I was 12 when it first came out in North America and I was all over it. I took a break from it throughout my teens, pretty sure I would have gotten my ass beat if I got caught with Pokemon games in highschool, but i've been back into since Ruby/Sapphire and have been big into it the last year or so.
It would be pretty gnarly to have a kid and have them get into Pokemon, I could pull off the "back in my day, we only had 150 Pokemon, and that was all we needed".

Man you are old....I was like 6/7 years old when it came out and man it was fucking CRAZY.
There was this girl that liked me and her Mom bought a "A LOT" of Pokemon cards and she would just give a bunch to me like all the time it was the bomb.
This would have been when the base set came out before Jungle and Fossil expansion sets.
Yeah dudes, I'm leaning more and more toward doing it. I'd like to find a used 3DS and copy of X on here if possible, not really looking to do brand new because I know the second I do get one Nintendo will drop the newest one lmao.

As much as I initially hated the design of the 2DS it really isn't that bad I would do this deal Jason if I was you.
Just get a travel case or some screen protectors for that badboy.
Wow, that's not bad at all! Is that compatible with the newer games, though? I'd like to try X and Y; is that ONLY on 3DS? Can you see how clueless I am with this shit
Yes the new pokemon games are worth getting a 3DS for. You can play all 7 gens on a 3DS (1st gen you can get through the eshop, and 2nd and 3rd gen have the remakes). Besides that fun fact, 5th and 6th gens are actually really really good. 4th gen is good too but not as good as 5th and 6th. 5th gen has many similarities to 1st gen in terms of pokemon evolution lines mirroring 1st gen, and there being tons of new pokemon introduced. 6th gen has the fewest new pokemon ever introduced, but for what they lack in quantity, they more than make up in quality of cool new pokemon. There are many new mechanics to learn, with mega evolutions being the biggest, and you also have a new type - fairy. Sun and Moon look just as good as gens 5 and 6.
Also, if by some reason none of the newer pokemon games catch your interest after you play them, at least you'll still have a 3DS and you'll be able to play some other games that are similar to pokemon. These are all on the DS:

Yea dude. Pretty much every games works on the 2ds expect the ones that require 'new 3ds' which is like 3 games. And Mario kart 7 is my favorite since 64! I had to restrain myself from buying it just Bc lol my fiends has a 2ds and for the price I think it's an absolute steal if you're not picky
I have played the hell out of X/Y as well as Black 2. You should definitly get a 3DS/3DSXL (I recommend the XL, if you can find one used for cheap) to play some of the newer games. I started playing Pokémon with Silver and I also LOVED it. After that, I switched directly to Black 2, which was awesome, then X/Y, then ORAS.
I'm planning on picking up a 2DS soon, dudes! Allocating resources and going for it. I'm going to make it my go-to "time killer game" when I'm not training clients/have gaps in my day etc. Pokemon is perfect for that shit.

Not sure if anyone in here already mentioned it, but you can actually buy Red/Blue/Yellow from the 2DS/3DS eshop as well. Starting this fall you'll even be able to transfer your gen 1 pokemon all the way to the new games for the first time, so that's pretty cool.
At least, I got some Shiny Pokemon in X and Y. I was chaining fish for a shiny Dratini, and when all of a sudden, Shiny Poliwhirl appears out of nowhere.

Yes! I also fully accept that I'm so late to the game, I'm probably going to own the damn thing for less than a year before Nintendo releases the next handheld/DS

Now I want to play pokemon. After I beat fire emblem, I'm going to restart either 5th gen or 6th gen, I haven't decided which yet, but I've only played through x once, and 5th gen technically twice since I beat black 2. Glad you're liking crystal though!
So after all this, you went back and played Crystal? You're one hell of a flip flopper, man
I don't have the funds ATM to drop on even used game stuff. Small business owner = use what you've got now bro. Way more excited for the newer games though after playing Crystal all weekend.

All of my best memories are from R/B/Y/G/S/C. I didn't care for the GBA games at all. Thus, I've had a bad taste in my mouth for any newer titles. I'm jumping to X and Y next after the research I've done. Crystal is by far the peak of the GB/GBC titles.

It was a fun game.
I always see the local comic book/ card game store open in like Friday nights after hours late at night.
I swear they sit at a table with cloaks on playing Magic cards.
Probably need to know the secret doorknock to get in and answer a very difficult question about Star Trek.
